CZECH GLASS BUTTER PAT(SALT) GREEK/ ROMAN GODDESS. Greetings from Bucks County. Offered here is a vintage butter pat(or salt) featuring a Greek goddess. Possible Terpsichore. Although she is often portrayed with a lyre. The figure is an intaglio on the reverse side. It measures 2-5/8" X 1-3/4" X 1/2" deep. Condition is good but not perfect. A small chip on the upper left had corner(top) Otherwise normal wear as would be expected. The color is amber. SHIPPING WILL BE FREE IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S.

These two butter pats are in very good condition for their age. The white with green stripes is a common restaurant pat but smaller than some. Measuring only about 2 ½ inches across. There is no wear to the stripes. But it shows light utensil marks, and some staining around the edge. The second pat is ivory with a brown leaf in the center. Yellow squiggles, brown stems and green leaves. The edge is scalloped. With each point tipped in gold. There is minimal wear to the gold and no utensil marks. It measures about 3 inches across. Square-shaped dinnerware. The first made in California, was unveiled in 1937, as was the bamboo embellishements the company became known for. Leslie Sample died in 1939 and Gabriel and her husband took over operations of Winfield Pottery. They opened a new larger Pasadena plant in 1941 and added more dinnerware patterns. Following World War II the Gabriel's faced a huge backlog of orders, so licensed the"Winfield China" name to American Ceramic Products of Santa Monica, while making their Pasadena production as"Gabriel Porcelain" Production of Winfield China remained hight through the forties and early fifties, but after imported china appeared on the market business slowed. According to the EAPG Pattern Identification on-line site this pattern was called Optica and production began around 1903. There is a painted purple/ lavender band around the circumference of the lid. This band is showing considerable wear. The white and blue dot decorations appear to be in very good condition. The gold decoration that was on the outside edge of scalloped design on the base is showing considerable wear. The only gold remaining is on the inner edges of the pattern. The ... moregold on the lid is also showing wear: Originally there was a gold band above and below the purple. Most of these lines are gone. Only the edges can still be seen. The top of the knob was also gold decorated. Enough still exists to let one know the tip was completely covered at one time. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. It does have some light scratches on its inner surface as well as light scratches elsewhere, the result of storage and handling. It measures approx. dia. on the rim of the base) 7-5/8" and is stands about 6-1/2" tall. This Northwood covered butter is still in really nice shape considering it would be over a century old. I believe it shows the wear of use. Time and handling, but it was handled with care. It would be a great example of pattern and decoration. Our photos are a large part of our description. I believe this glass dates to sometime during the 1950's and is beautifully crafted in a simple yet elegant design. They are clear and solid pieces. A mortar and pestle are tools used in the process of trituration. Which is the act of reducing substances to small particles by rubbing them in a mortar with a pestle. The mortar is a small, heavy bowl and the pestle is a thick, heavy, stick-like tool with a rounded bottom, somewhat like a short, squat baseball bat. Originally made from solid brass today you can find them in hard wood, porcelain, stone, marble or metal. A substance is placed in the mortar, then the pestle is used to grind against the substance, using downward pressure and a circular motion. The pestle should be placed in the center of the mortar to begin, starting with small circles, ... morethen gradually moving outward to create a bigger circular motion, in a concentric fashion.
