Up for auction is this antique historical red transferware cup plate. Child's plate, miniature, or butter pat. Not sure which it is supposed to be. It is small, being just under 3 inches across. It commemorates the California gold rush which was from 1849- 1855. The title is"California Diggings" The scene depicts a bay(San Fransisco Bay? with a sailing ship and California gold miners with their tools on the shore, with mountains in the background. The condition is good for its age which is somewhere between 130 to 160 years old since it was made between 1850 to 1880. There is only some light crazing and a flea bite on the bottom rim on the back where it sits that is under the glaze, so that is a minor flaw in the making and not damage. Look over the pictures. They are part of the description. Keep in mind that they magnify everything ... moreso much that it makes everything look worse than it really is. It shows some crazing. A bit of gold wear, and there a couple of glaze slubs on the bottom. The second pat is common restaurant ware…tan with a brown stripe. Blue Ridge China Southern Potteries Wild Strawberry Cup Saucer Butter Pat Cream I just purchased this lot of vintage Blue Ridge China pieces from a local estate here in Central Virginia(these actually came from the same estate as the toast cover I listed a couple weeks ago) The pieces were produced by Southern Potteries. Inc. at their Erwin, Tennessee factory during the 1940's/ 1950's. The lot consists of(1) cup and saucer, 1) demi creamer, and(1) butter pat(I'm including the demi teapot as a freebee as it has damage) The pieces are done in the beloved"Wild Strawberry" pattern. The earthenware blanks show bright white color and crisp mold. The under glaze hand painting shows rich color. The cup measures 2 ¼" high x 3 5/8" top rim, the saucer 6" in diameter. The creamer is 2 ¾" high x 3 ¾" ... morespout to handle. The butter pat is 4" in diameter. The cup, saucer and butter pat are in excellent condition with no damage and only trace wear. The creamer is in excellent factory condition but does have a 3/8" clear glaze miss over the middle leaf. The teapot base has a 3/16" flake on the foot and a number of pinpoint nicks on the spout edge, the lid has numerous ½ pinhead flakes along the green feathered edge(but please remember I'm throwing it in with the other pieces) This small lot would make a nice addition to any collection of Blue Ridge/ Southern Potteries Wild Strawberry china. Vintage Hand Painted Small Delft Ceramic Butter Pat Pin Dish Blue White Windmill
This is a small little ceramic plate that is hand painted Delft. It is just over 4 inches across and about 1/2 inch high. In the center of the little plate there is a charming picture of a Windmill. And a cottage by the sea with boats. It is in excellent condition with no damage. It can be used as a trinket dish, a butter or sauce dish or hung on the wall for decoration as it has two holes on the back for hanging. It comes from a smoke free home. Germany. This is the first and only such small creamer and butter pat I have ever seen or had marked as such. If you collect vintage restaurant creamer or hotel silver. A Vintage Lot of Six J&G Meakin Hanley Butter Pat Dishes. Each measures about 3" in diameter. CONDITION: In okay shape. There are many spots of discoloration and utensil scratches on all the dishes. Two dishes have several small chips on the base. One dish has crazing and a large amount of discoloration in the crazing cracks. Some rubbing to the gold rims and some discoloration on the bottom rims from display. I purchase all of my items at auctions. Estate sales and flea markets so cannot be sure of their history or whether they've come from smoke-free or pet-free homes. I do my best to list any damage or use, but I'm not an expert.
