These are a warehouse find.Made in liverpool england in the 1930's,they were orig.used on sidewalks in England to let natural sunlight filter through to illuminate the basements of their shops,much like the frank lloyd wright tiles were set in window of shops to amplify the sunlight coming into stores. Antique Mah Jongg Set in Carved Wooden Box, 144 Tiles
This is a beautiful vintage Mah Jongg set in bakelite. With 144 tiles. There are no jokers. I showed close-ups of the flower, 5 dot and the 9 dot as they have a slight stain on the corners. Turned over, the stains do not show. As the bakelite aged, the tile colors varied slightly but it wouldn't affect the play of the game. This set could also be used for crafts. It comes in the lovely carved wooden box.

This is a lovely lot of 6 antique arts& crafts era art tiles signed Old Bridge. They are a matt blue with a layer of caramel color glaze under it. They have an alligator glaze as shown.They are all 3X3 inches and are 1/2 inch thick. They were never used. They have minor wear from being stored together in a box. And they are a little dusty& dirty. I find a few speck size glaze flaws on the sides. These come from a historic Duluth Park Point arts& crafts home that was built in 1910. This is the era these tiles were produced as well I think they were left over from the original build. beautiful lot! 5 Antique English Art Nouveau Ceramic Tiles Dark Green Stylized Flower Majolica
5 Antique English Art Nouveau Ceramic Tiles These come from an estate we are honored to be liquidating Note: The pictures make the tiles look a bit yellowed in the lower right corners of the images. That is a function of the indoor lighting. They actual tiles are not yellowed. This lot consists of five Art Nouveau period tiles made in England. They are checkered. With lovely stylized flowers. They measure 6X6 inches. While the overall condition is pretty nice for antique tiles. They do have a few issues worth noting. There are scuffs and scratches scattered about, most noticeable in the plain dark green areas. They have the iridescent sheen that is acquired over time due to cleaning, but that is typical of antique tiles. There are a few small nick around the edges, the worst being on the tile pictured in the upper left. That tile also has ... moresome dark staining on the back. A couple have as-mad imperfections, the most notable being a spot where the glaze did not stick on a small raised bump in the center of the dark green area. Finally, they all have crazing. The last two pictures show the surfaces in bright raking light, to show the minute flaws on the surface. Those flaws are not that obvious to the naked eye under normal lighting situations. Flaws notwithstanding. The design corners are all quite nice. I think these would be great to cut out and use for accent pieces. Overall, a decent, if not perfect lot of genuine antique English Art Nouveau tiles. Offered at a low minimum bid giving consideration to the condition issues. All 18 tins are in very good condition for used ceiling tin. The paint is VERY chippy and will come off fairly easily with a rotary wire brush. They show their age with a bit of discoloration around the edges from being in a cast iron firepl ace.I did not want to bleach them. But I am sure it could be done. I think high volume peroxide is the thing to use. They measures 6" square and a a bit more than 1/3" thic k. Minimal chips that could grouted out with no problem. They are really stunning early tiles and a find for the proper application. I have been unable to find any other tiles that resemble these.Feel free to offer any information. American Encaustic Tile Company Set of Fireplace Surround Tiles: Burgundy Floral Beautiful period tiles. Removed from a fireplace in Iowa during the early 1940s and packed away in a box ever since. The color is a beautifully transparent burgundy or claret shade of purple. The images really do not do it justice. I have tried to show them in different lights- from normal inside light to direct full sunlight. There are variations between individual tiles as visible in the images. Meso-American(Funerary/Burial) ANTIQUE Mask. Hand Carved Wood with carefully hand cut Mosaic Tiles that are inlaid or embedded onto the carved mask. The tiles appear to be: Mother-of-Pearl. Jade, Tortoise Shell. I purchased this mask from a Licensed Artifact/Antique Dealer that was also a personal friend of mine about(20 years ago) The Licensed Artifact/Antique Dealer was from Houstan, Texas. The mask is genuine and very old. It is not symmetrical so measuring around the entire mask with a cloth tape measure it measures approximately 30 inches around. Measuring from the top of the mask over the top of the face to the base of the chin it measures approximately 13.5 inches x 10.5 inches. Measuring from the back of the mask it is approximately 9.5 inches X 8 inches. I am currently down sizing my personal collection and this is a fabulous starting ... moreprice for this mask. Bone and bamboo pieces may not all match perfectly in size, as most were carved, crafted and assembled by hand. This also includes the wooden storage boxes. In an effort to get the product to market quickly, many of the vintage wooden boxes were made with green wood. As the wood dried, it may have split, shrunk or cracked in places.
