Old tiles from a building in Chicago or the area in very good condition. They are 15" square and around 5" thick. Three have original brick and mortar fill used to attach to the original building. I did not try to remove for fear of damaging the tiles. So those three tiles are very heavy. This auction is for a pair of Asian Bricks or Theatre tiles. I know little to nothing about them so unfortunately I most likely will not be able to answer any questions. I do know they were valued high before they were broken by movers. Please understand these have been broken and repaired. The cost to have them professionally repaired is about $750. Fine Pombaline Pattern Portuguese tile panel description Fine set of 36 Portuguese tiles made in the second half of the 18 th century. After the 1755 earthquake that destroyed parts of Lisbon. There was a huge demand for tiles. Pattern tiles served the purpose as they could be produced quickly and the pattern tiles could be used on large and small surfaces. These tiles which had an enormous variety of trellis and rosette motifs. Came to known as Pombalines, a reference to the Marquis of pombal who had a great role in reconstructing lisbon. Size of the four tiles with yellow corner filling are about 14.1 x 14.1 cm(about 5.5”square each tile) The border tiles are slightly smaller. 14.0 x 14.0 cm and the tiles with Purple flowers are bigger, 14.2 x 14.2 cm. Included 4 black and 2 red wood tile racks marked Davenport Rack that measure about 15 3/4" long. 148 magnificent genuine hand carved bamboo and ox bone tiles, 1 small round disk and 1 small round cylinder both carved ox bone, a set of tine ox bone dice in a slotted wood file box, and 119 carved ox bone counting sticks that measure from 2 1/4" long to 2 3/4" long. The tiles are all hand carved with hand etched pattern and hand painted highlights. Each tile has a dovetailed type construction that holds the ox bone and bamboo tightly together. The last picture in the series explains and shows all the information about the added tiles, size, etc. The original box was not with the set when I purchased, so I have included a beautifully carved and satin lined antique box(highlights shown in second from last picture) Also included is a 1923"How to Play" book from L. Up for auction is fantastic. Antique Mah Jong game. It is encased in a box that has a front panel that slides off to reveal 5 drawers. Some of the drawer have'pull-out' handles that are partially broken. See photo. The game tiles are each made in 2 parts; an ox bone upper and a bamboo at the back. Tiles are of a high quality and have a smooth texture. Size may be slightly irregular due to hand-crafted nature. Numbers. Chinese characters and pictures were carved on the bone side with incredible detail. The drawers contains the following items. Starting with the top drawer down: Top drawer: 36 Tiles Drawer 2: 36 Tiles Drawer 3: 36 Tiles Drawer 4: 36 Tiles Bottom Drawer: 38 carved bone sticks. Available here is a set of encaustic fireplace tiles made by Trent Company. There are 11 six inch tiles with a floral/vine/three leaf clover pattern. Included in the tiles are 2 corner tiles. One top center tile and one end"L" tiles. shown in center) Beautiful colors of aqua and brown. Color change can be arranged differently if desired. Colors are much more pretty than photos depict. All of the tiles exhibit crazing consistent with age. They have very little to no concrete grout on the back. They are all marked“TRENT” on the back. When placed together correctly. The floral/vine tiles form a continuous flowing pattern. There is one tile with small chips no bigger than 1/4” near the edge. Other than that the tiles are in good condition with no major issues. Two antique fireplace tiles 7" x 7", very different, Persian?
In the 1970's. The previous owner removed these two tiles from around an old fireplace in North Carolina. I don't know their age or origin. Each tile measures roughly 7" x 7" and they're about 1/2" thick. The bird tile has an unusual wavy surface(not flat) the other tile has a flat surface. There are no cracks or chips on either tile; the"man" tile has crazing. Please look at all the pictures and ask any questions before bidding. Shipping will be USPS parcel post. These two antique pottery tiles from the Providential Tile Works in Trenton. N.J. are of the same man, but with a different tint. The blue tile is not marked in the back, and has a 1/2" chip to the back edge. If it were installed into a wall or a fireplace trim, it would not show. The green tile has a 1/4" chip to the nose, as well as a couple of small chips to the back edge. This tile is marked the Providential Tile Works, Trenton, N.J. There is crazing throughout both pieces, but the front edges on both are complete. We are a smoke free home. There are no handling fees and we reimburse excess postage.
