ANTIQUE DOVETAILED BONE & BAMBOO MAH JONG SET 1920's WOOD CASE 148 TILES
Vintage Mah Jong Dove Tailed Bone Tile& Bamboo Set in the original box. 148 tiles total. This includes 8 blanks(jokers) The box itself appears to be black stained wood. It is a very simple case with two gold toned tarnishing handles at the top and five matching pull out drawers. The case also has a slide on cover that goes over the drawers. This cover has an Asian symbol in green on it. The case has 5 drawers. 148 tiles, 8 of which are blank. The tiles that are not blank are engraved. Also included are a large amount of bone stick counters. Some are not entirely straight, They are not uniform and have different thicknesses. Most have dots that didn't quite stay in their engravings. I've taken a photo of one of the sticks to show what it is I'm attempting to describe. There are 82 of these black color bone sticks. There are ... more35 sticks on the red side. Again, the red sticks are also not uniform, different thickness and slightly different colors. Also included is a small box with three tiny dice, a small container with 4 white and green"coins" and a small die that appears to be bakelite. I believe this particular die was added after the fact. Please expect to wipe down/clean these pieces. They are old and therefore are dusty. I am not an expert on Mah Jong sets. There are many things I do not know. That being said. I picked this game up at an estate sale in Palm Beach. The women told me the Mah Jong game was very old. She was 94 and no longer played. I have laid out the tiles and racks so you can see what is included with the set. The playing tiles are in overall very good condition with vibrant colors. They are an earth tone and or brown color tone with fine vertical lines. The gaming tiles have a strong aromatic odor. The exterior of the storage case has lots of wear. The inside of the case and tile storage racks are lined with a brown crushed velvet. Please see photo's. I believe the mah jong set is Piroxloid. They are in very good condition with some very small abrasions to the high points(on some) and an pleasing all over crazing that almost all antique tiles have. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN PROVIDENTIAL TILE FIREPLACE SURROUND portrait tiles
The sale is for this gorgeous antique tile surround that was made by the New Jersey Providential Tile company in the late 1800's. The picture is a shortened version of the surround. There are quite a few more of the mottled tiles. It is in good condition and is comprised of the 2 corner portrait tiles and the rest are 6x1.5 inch and 3 x 1.5 inch tiles. Very few or none of the mottled tiles should need to be cut for the surround. There is some residual mortar and the portrait tiles have a few edge abrasions(please see closeup pictures) The most common surround would be 30" high and across. If you need more tiles for your fireplace surround I can flesh out this design with the mottled tiles. I have many antique tiles listed.

You are invited to bid on this set of four antique Victorian ceramic tiles dating to approx. c1890's. These lovely Aesthetic Movement tiles have been decorated with stylised oriental flowers on leafy stems with a pattern band border. They bear no makers marks and each tile measures 6" square. Generally these tiles are in good antique condition. There is slight discolouration to one tile with two small old chips. A couple of small chips on the edge of another tile, rubbing on the edges and general age related crazing. A lovely set of Aesthetic Movement ceramic tiles. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began.
