The Victoria& Albert Museum notes- Charlotte Schreiber spent 15 years travelling across Europe collecting ceramics and she gave a significant collection of English wares to the Museum in 1894. Charlotte Schreiber was born in Lincolnshire on 19 May 1812, the eldest child of the ninth Earl of Lindsay. In 1833 she married John Guest, a manufacturer and owner of the Dowlais ironworks in Wales, 27 years her senior. She learnt Welsh and became involved in the business, ultimately running the works single-handedly following her husband’s death in 1852. In 1855 she married Charles Schreiber, a Classics scholar ... moreemployed as her son’s tutor. She described her collecting, which began around 1869 as the'china mania' and for the next 15 years travelled across Europe with her husband building an unparalleled collection of 18th-century ceramics. This Davenport Ironstone teapot stands 9" inches high. The registration mark date is January 14 1850. It has a hairline down the side and a hairline two thirds the way around the base. Somebody smeared some kind of glue or cement along the inside where the hairlines are. No other chips cracks or damage. The previous owner was a hoarder of sorts. The teapot still displays very well. But cannot find any cat lamps. This one appears to be factory original, but I cannot be sure as I cannot find any reference to one having been made. It could have been a custom order from the factory or drilled and converted post factory. The hardware and fabric wrapped cord is consistent with the period of manufacture. There is no mark but the caddy shows the work of a good manufactory. There is a good chance that Samson from Paris was the maker but that's more a feeling than that we can proof that. pair English (?) antique porcelain compotes
A pair of old(guessing late 1800s) and beautifully hand painted porcelain compotes. Flowers are not from a transfer but actually hand painted/ Base of each compote is marked with an"a 70" but that is the only identifier. We think these are English. Each weighs abpit 1.25 lbs. We pack well in a fairly large box so the final weight will be about 4 pounds. The compotes are in excellent condition with the one exception of a small flake on the underside of a rim- see photo with an orange arrow pointing to that area. Otherwise there are no chips. Scrapes, etc. Top diameter is 8.75 inches. Each has a reticulated edge with 24 pierced holes on the top part and 8 on the base part. Beautiful vibrant cobalt blue and gold trim. Posted with

The set consists of eight plates(9ins– 22.5cms across) Two low comports(8¾ ins-22cms across and 2¼ ins-5.5cmsdeep) two square‘tab’ handles dishes(almost 11 ins-27.5cms by 9¼ ins-23.3cms) and two oval dishes(11 ins-27cms by 9 ins-22.5cms) The overall condition is good with one plate having a small shallow rim chip to the back. Not visible from the front, and one dish has a short tight hairline to the rim(see photos)some of the pieces have light age and use related rubbing to ... morethe turquoise enamelling and gliding, the glaze is in good shape with a little intermittant surface wear, none of the above is obvious or unsightly and the set displays beautifully, the condition has been taken into consideration within the price as has the cost of overseas shipping. Some of the pieces are marked with a pattern number 4990 hand painted in turquoise. With the absence of any other marks or back stamps it is difficult to pinpoint a particular manufacturer…the set will have been made c.1860-70 in the Staffordshire region of the UK, the style and colours, especially the turquoise, point very much to Minton although other well known good potteries were producing this type of lavish tableware during this period. This is a stylish and beautiful antique set with huge decorative value from an area world renowned for the production of fine quality ceramics…we have in the past sold similar sets for three and four times as much as this wonderful porcelain is listed for and I don't want to think about what it works out to per piece! I'm unsure whether the teapot is Chinese export ware or from an 18 th century English company like Worcester. Bow, or Chelsea. The teapot is soft-paste porcelain, with normal glaze crazing. The pot is approximately 14 cm(5 1/2” high and 20 cm(8” wide from spout to handle edge. CONDITION: There is an excellent professional repair to one of the leaves on the bobeche- I have included close up top and bottom pictures of this bobeche leaf. ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for an unusual 19thC English porcelain tea cup& saucer. Dating to c. 1880. Finely painted with an Aesthetic design. Quite interesting really. Cup measures 3.5 inches/9cm in diameter. Usual signs of age and normal use. No chips or cracks. I am selling another identical so I have used the same listing twice. Nice little piece.
