ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ENGLISH POTTERY PORCELAIN after 1851 CERAMICS GREAT 1911 BOOK
Nineteenth-Century English Ceramic Art” By J.F. Blacker. ANTIQUE ENGLISH 18th CENTURY TRANSFERWARE PORCELAIN - HANDLEY COLLECTION
18th Century English Transfer-Printed Porcelain and Enamels. The Joseph M. Handley Collection” By Joseph M. Handley. Published by the Mulberry Press in 1991. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The catalog of a fine collection of 18th century English transferware. Handley was a member of the English Ceramic Circle and a co-founder of the San Francisco Ceramic Circle. And spent more than 20 years amassing this collection. The collection is heavily weighted towards Worcester, but a number of other factories are represented as well, and there are also saltglaze, creamwares, Liverpool tiles, and Battersea, Birmingham and Liverpool enamels. The literature on Worcester porcelain has a breadth and variety entirely befitting for the most widely collected of all the English porcelain factories. And the only one with an unbroken history ... moreof production from the mid-eighteenth century to the present day. Of the many titles, however, little has been written about the subject of over glaze transfer-printing, a technique both pioneered and brought to perfection at the Worcester factory. Joseph Handley's catalogue, with its hundred and twenty or so pieces of Worcester, is therefore a valuable and welcome addition to the bookshelf of the serious collector. Yet this catalogue goes much further, exploring many facets of the technique of transfer-printing on ceramics, an invention with momentous implications for the ceramics industry as a whole. Quite apart from the range of transfer-prints depicted here, the collection is notable for its sprinkling of rare forms which have been deliberately sought out in order to lend a variety of shapes to a collection principally concerned with decorative motifs. As well as Worcester, the collection is also strong in Bow and Liverpool, and contains outstanding examples from Vauxhall, Longton Hall and Champion's Bristol factory. Alongside his porcelain Joseph Handley has also assembled a fascinating group of transfer-printed enamels, including many with subjects correspond

Antique Victorian English Porcelain Figural SHELL In HAND Open Salt Vase 19thC
ANTIQUE ENGLISH PORCELAIN FIGURAL SHELL IN HAND VASE- OPEN SALT 19TH CENTURY ATTENTION UK AND NON-US BIDDERS: Please note that if you are following my sales on a regular basis you should log onto the Ebay U.S.A. site rather than the Ebay.UK site in order to see the complete selection of auction items I have listed at any given time. For some reason the Ebay U.K. site filters from view the posting of sales by U.S. sellers containing the names of some of the better and more highly collectable English and German porcelain companies. I have no idea why this is. However, I do ship worldwide so you are welcome to bid on any of the items. IMPORTANT BIDDING AND PAYMENT INFORMATION: IF YOU PLAN TO BID ON THIS ITEM AND ARE THE HIGH BIDDER I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THAT YOU DO NOT PAY ME UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY INVOICE NOT THE INVOICE THAT IS GENERATED IMMEDIATELY ... moreAT THE CONCLUSION OF THE SALE BY EBAY. Ebay now has rules that all sellers MUST ship items for which they have been paid within one business day without exception. Those who follow my sales and have bought from me over the years know that I have always had a policy of shipping within 24 hours of a sale(see my feedback) However, there are times when I am out of town unexpectedly for a house call, an auction or an estate call and it simply is not possible to get to the post office in time. Also, if you find that there is more than one item you are interested in bidding on over a given time period and would like to take advantage of combined shipping, please again, DO NOT pay me until the last of those items you're watching has finished. I will then send you an invoice with an adjusted shipping fee which saves on postage. I never charge a"handling fee" I would rather wait a few days on a payment and extend you the advantage of lower shipping fees than to be paid immediately- not ship- and then be scored negatively by eBay for not shipping soon enough. Offered in this sale is an interesting Victorian porcelain figural shell in hand vase or perhaps open salt that

HERBERT ALLEN COLLECTION of ANTIQUE ENGLISH PORCELAIN -V&A MUSEUM 1922 CATALOG
An Interesting Collection Catalog- Catalogue of the Herbert Allen Collection of English Porcelain” By Bernard Rackham. Published in London by His Majesty's Stationery Office in 1922. 2nd edition. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Herbert Allen began collecting English porcelain in the wake of the path explored by Lady Charlotte Schrieber. With the intent of assembling a comprehensive and representative collection of English porcelain. His collection had been on view at the Victoria& Albert Museum for several years prior to the publication of this catalog. Includes Bow, Chelsea, Chelsea-Derby, Derby, Pinxton, Worcester, Caughley, Coalport, Nantgarw, Swansea, Plymouth, Bristol, Lowestoft, Liverpool, Longton Hall, New Hall, Davenport, Minton, Spode, Copeland, Wedgwood, Staffordshire, and Rockingham. Concerning the ... moreauthor. The Dictionary of Art Historians notes: Bernard Rackham[1876-1964] Pottery and maijolica scholar and medievalist; Keeper of the Department of Ceramics at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1914-1938. He attended Pembroke College, Cambridge, on a scholarship. After receiving a first in Classics in 1898, he joined the South Kensington Museum, taking advantage of a new hiring level designed to attract honors graduates. He was assigned to cataloging the pottery and porcelain, an area in which he had no formal training. Faced with identifying over 5,000 pieces of pottery from all countries and time periods, Rackham soon became an authority on the subject. Rackham began researching Italian maijolica in 1901 when assigned to write that section for the Museum's catalog of the Cook collection(published 1903) Rackham's concept of his subject was aided by the 1909 expansion and reorganization of the Museum, one which confirmed the display of objects by medium rather than by integrating various arts into rooms of a similar historic period. This emphasis by medium encouraged Rackham to view ceramics as an art form and not simply support artifacts to a historic period. Num

Antique English Porcelain Bowl & Underplate - Bird - Ornithology Theme Decor
Description: A really good example of antique continental porcelain. Early to mid-19th century. It is a double handled bowl with underplate. Both pieces are remarkably decorated with images of different types of birds, including roosters and the more exotic. The quality of the painting is exceptional. It is not signed; however, it does from a local Swiss estate whereby the owners were anglophiles and collected many fine English antiques. From the painting, theme and the way it is manufactured and the unglazed bottom of the base; it could be English or perhaps, German but somehow instincts hint at English. Regardless, it is a very fine piece. For size comparisons, the bowl is 6 inches wide(including handles) Condition: fine hairline in one side of bowl and rubbing at gold paint at edge of plate in small areas

Antique Original English 19th Century PORCELAIN LION FOOT WINE CHAMPAGNE Cooler
What a beautiful piece. Likely English and a French Empire style with the faux handles and lion's head feet. 9" high and 8.5" in diameter. This porcelain piece is flawless. A cottage painted scene is quaint considering this was made for a higher income person. Unlike most 19th porcelain, a wine cooler is as practical today as it was then. since most people could not afford these, there are not a lot of them around. This is hand painted and there is wear to the gold highlighting, particularly on the rim. There is very minor discoloration to the inside of the cooler. The color of the paintings, particularly the pink clouds, totally make this item! Shipping in US is $16.95. I generally only ship on Sundays. As I travel most of the week. Antique 18/19C English Bristol Lowestoft Paste Porcelain Flowers Bugs Plate Bowl
For auction: Antique 18/19C English Bristol Lowestoft Paste Porcelain Flowers Bugs Plate Bowl Charming design of flowers and bugs with a center flower that seems like flow blue? Picked this up from a local estate filled with porcelain and pottery from the 18th and 19th century. Couldn't find a pattern in my online searching but from the gold"plus" mark on the back I think it might be Bristol porcelain from the UK. Interesting porcelain has speckles in it which appear characteristic to be of that era of paste porcelain. Bowl also makes that ringing sound singularly found in paste porcelain. Terrific bowl measures 8 5/8" across- condition note is on tiny nick to the rim as shown in photos. Shipping in the US is $10.00; out of the U.S. please email me for an insured shipp ing estimate. Glazed Porcelain Antique English Urn And Cherub Stand
Stunning glazed flower pot(vase) set on a tall cherub base. Colors are rich and deep browns. Greens, blues, with touches of yellow. I cannot find an artist's signature or a maker's mark. The inside of the pot is glazed and has dribbles of paint as well. The stand measures 15" tall. And is 11" across the bottom. The pot is 10" wide, 7-1/2" tall, with the mouth 7-1/2 across. I don't know for a fact that this was made in England. However that's that I was told by a local antiques dealer who is well-know in our area. This is quite a studding and impressive piece. As far as I can tell. There are no condition issues, however I am not an authority. I have pointed out in one of the photos a tiny little place on the bottom of the pot. I can't tell if this is a tiny chip or just an area where the glaze did not ... morecover. I don't feel any jagged edge. Please let me know if you need additional information. The silk orchids are for display only and are not included in this sale. Posted with

Antique Edwardian English Red Gilt Porcelain Trinket Box, Classical Scene
Normal 0 Antique Edwardian English Red Gilt Porcelain Trinket Box. Classical Scene A very pretty porcelain trinket box with a charming classical scene on the lid depicting three female graces and a cupid in a garden. The base is stamped England 158. According to the information on dating porcelain. The mark“England“ was used between 1891– 1912 and“Made in England” was used after 1912. I believe therefore that the box is Edwardian.
