NOS Caster Mounting Brackets Wheel Brackets for Antique Furniture
Here are 4 NOS mounting brackets for your antique casters. They will Fit most standard antique wooden wheels on dressers and office chairs. Expect some signs of corrosion from age and handling- they remain fully functional. The pieces pictured are not the ones shipped but are from the same lot and are the same size and quality. I would say these. Being older, are probably more sturdy than the newer ones- that's just my opinion) They Measure 1 1/4" tall with an inner diameter of a 1/4" the toothed base is 3/4" I do have multiple lots so just let me know if you need more and you can save on shipping. Antique Payson Mfg Co. 360 Degree Cast Iron Wooden Wheel Furniture Casters
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND TERMS BEFORE BIDDING! FREE SHIPPING! Up for auction are Five antique/ vintage furniture cast iron wooden wheel casters(5) total Circa 1880’s. Recovered from an antique furniture carpenters inventory. They are we believe to be Payson Mfg Co. 360 Degree cast iron casters with wooden wheels. An extensive research of the web produced none like it and only two similar larger casters made by Payton. The casters are stamped P Mfg Co. Nov 22 81 as best as can be seen. But the full name cannot or was not included on these. Two of the five still have the original wooden wheels; the other three have fallen off. They are unique because the three 1/4” mounting holes are hidden within the skirted swivel base which holds the disc shaped Babbitt bearings. The mounting screws are screwed in via the underside access hole ... moreas it rotates around(see pictures) The wooden wheels can be replaced because casters of this era were“pinned” in place. Remove pin insert wooden wheel and reinsert pins blunting the ends. The dimensions are as follows(approximately) Overall measurements of each caster is 2- 3/4' tall by 1– 1/2'wide. Mounting Plates are 1– 1/2" in diameter and the stem insert is 1” tall. The wheels measure 1– 1/8” by 5/8” and provide 1– 3/4” overall clearance furniture. Good condition for their age. All spin freely without extensive rust issues. They were cleaned and lightly oiled and can be easily restored for authentic antique furniture restoration, but some want to maintain the antiquity and current condition so we are leaving restoration decision to you. These have an Art Deco look to them and do not swivel, but the three with wheels roll freely and do have rust and wear. I don’t know what these came off of but I assume it was a piece of furniture, possibly a serving cart or buffet. Overall height is about 2” ½ by 1” wide. Antique WOODEN WHEEL CASTER Attached to ORIGINAL OAK FURNITURE LEG This piece looks like a back leg from a small chest of drawers or a commode. It is made of oak. It is 8 1/2" long and 1 1/8" square. It has the original nail that held it to the piece of furniture. The caster has a wheel that is about 1" in diameter and 5/8" thick. The stem turns nicely in the metal tube that is inserted in the leg. I doubt that this caster has ever been off this leg. Condition: This caster is not cracked and it does not have any flat spots. It is slightly worn on the shaft. But does not wobble. The furniture leg is not split or chipped. There is a bit of paint on one side. All my items are from a nonsmoking environment. When installing: First check to see if your caster fits the bracket- then take it out but make sure to pinch the flanged tube of the bracket back in place with pliers(that's what holds your caster in the bracket) Now if your caster stem fits in the hole and extends past the tube of the bracket. At all, your caster fits- Even if it has play up and down, it's OK, many wheels have varying stem lengths, the important thing is that the wheels/casters don't fall out.they will still spin freely which is what your going for(you don't usually need to lift your dresser leg off of the ground.So ... moreyou don't have to worry about vertical play) If the stem of your caster is two long for the hole of your furniture leg just drill it deeper with a bit the size of the bracket tube. Next center the bracket evenly in the hole of the furniture leg you're working with. Then tap the toothed portion of the bracket into the wood with a hammer- it won't get flush with the wood but it should be pretty snug, then put your caster in. Your set!
