Ancient Prehistoric Stone Age Neolithic Flint Danish Dagger Scandinavian
A beautiful. Extremely rare and well provenanced neolithic dagger, dating to approximately 2300- 2000 B.C. and found in Scandinavia. This beautiful chip stone tool was made from a large piece of flint. Broken down and then chipped into form, the attractive surface flaking was created by the use of a soft hammer, likely made from bone, or antler. Beautiful stitching marks, clearly showing where each chip was removed by the ancient knapper. The emergence of flint daggers in late neolithic Scandinavian cultures is seen as a fascinating response to new technology being used in the production of bronze daggers in central Europe. From the 3rd millennium onwards. This new metal weaponry clearly made an impression on the surrounding cultures of this period, who began to make flint copies, and who's influence can be seen through their stylistic ... moresimilarities. This fascinating early flint implement. Dates to the north-west European Neolithic period(approx 4000-2000 B.C. This period saw the dawn of civilization, when Early man was leaving the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. This transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. Length: 4 3/4 inches. Condition: Good. Tip and handle of dagger broken, old collection label, likely bearing the find site, still attached. Provenance: An extremely well provenanced piece. From the collection of James Curle(1862-1944) of Melrose, Scotland, and thence by descent. Although a lawyer by profession, Curle was an accomplished amateur archaeologist and his name remains one of the most famous in the field of Romano-British Archaeology, having excavated and published extensively in the early 1900's. From 1888-1903 Curle acquired the most magnificent collection of Nordic antiquities outside Scandinavia, eventually selling most of his pieces to the British Museum in 1921. The Curle collection in the British Museum has been the subject of numerous publications and remains an important

Neolithic Danish stone age thick necked axe, ca. 2000-1500 BC
Neolithic Danish thick necked axe. Ca. 2000-1500 BC Weight: 390 grams. Len gth: 15 cm. Width: 5 cm, height: 2.5 cm Th ese thick necked axes came into use in the single grave period and up to the beaker culture and dagger time(dolktid) This axe. Polished on the front and back, unpolished on the sides, has a real marble-like feel about it. It has lovely patina. Super high gloss. It has damage on the cutting edge. But not enough to detract from the beauty of the piece. This is a working axe. So of course work-re lated scars occur. T o my mind these scars are perfectly respectable. But of course that is a matter of taste. This axe was found by my husband in Halk(south-east Jutland. Denmark) on a rainy day in December.

Neolithic Danish flake corn sickle. Ca. 3500-1000 BC We ight: 61 grams. Length: 12.4 cm. Width: 3.5 cm, 1.5 cm thick This so called ¨heavy flake corn sickle¨ is a beauty. It has got a lovely golden patina and it is in absol utely perfect condition. I can't nail its age down. But i t probably is from the single grave culture. This type of corn sickle was used right up to the youn ger bronze age. This corn sickle was found in 1895. But it is difficult to read the find place. It is from an old collection.

Mesolithic Danish stone age core axe, Maglemose culture, ca. 7000- 5000 BC
M esolithic Danish core axe from the Maglemose culture. Ca. 70 00-5000 BC Weight: 275 grams. Length: 15 cm. Width: 5.5 cm, height: 3.5 cm These core axes are difficult to date. I say it is Maglemose. But it could also be much older. They could have been around in the Bromme culture, 10000 BC. A classic example of a core axe. This axe was found on the isle of Møn. North-west Jutland(Denmark) It is part of an old collec tion. Dating back to the 1840's.

Neolithic Danish stone age lance formed dagger, ca. 2200-1800 BC
Neolithic Danish lance formed dagger. Ca. 2200-1800 BC Weight: 50 grams. Length: 12.3 cm. Width: 2.5 cm, 0.75 cm thick So. Here is a lovely and interesting piece. It has lo st its tip. But j udging by the patina I would say this is an ancient br eak. Nicely knapped and beautiful brown patina. The handle is quite interesting. It seem s to have been knapped to make a firelighter/st rike-a-light. The k napping also is worth noting. It ha s got a lovely stitch down both sides, which has been ground sli ghtly and one of the faces ha s been polished down. It is a great study piece and although I w ould never do it myself. This dagger could eas ily be re novated. This dagger was found in south Sjælland(east Denmark) It is part of an old collection dating back to the 1840's.

Flat stone and polished, a task which would have taken many hours of hard labour and care to complete and giving it an attractive smooth finish. This fascinating early flint implement. Beautiful stitching marks run along the tools edges, showing where each tiny chip was removed; evidence of the extreme skill of the ancient craftsman. The emergence of flint daggers in late neolithic Scandinavian cultures is thought to be a fascinating response to new technology being used in the production of bronze daggers in central Europe. From the 3rd millennium onwards. This new metal weaponry clearly made an impression on the surrounding cultures of this period, who began ... moreto make flint copies, and who's influence can be seen through their stylistic similarities. 4400Y.O: WONDERFUL AX DANISH STONE AGE NEOLITHIC CHALCOLITHIC DAGGER C FLINT
DANISH STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description Danish Neolithic flint( silex) artifact is called"Thick butted b-type ax( axe) Broad bladed" Length of this fantastic patinized adze is 121mms. Belonging to the last period of the Stone Age. 2400-1800 BC, known as the Dagger period( Copper Age- Chalcolithic) coincided with the early Bronze Age in the British Isles and Central Europe. Weapons and tools made of copper and bronze were introduced and provided a challenge for those who made flint tools. The result can be seen in the excellent examples of imitations in flint of foreign bronze daggers. At the end of the period, the production of metal implements finally gained a foothold, and there is evidence of an emerging new social stratification. This is reflected in finds from settlements with both small and ... moremuch larger long houses. Burial customs varied from simple interments below ground or in passage graves, to burials in stone cists or log coffins covered with large mounds. The longitudinal section of this ax is V-formed. The butt-end is rectangular. The broad bladed axes are without doubt influenced by the contemporary copper and bronze axes. Provenance is an old collection. More details will follow the artifact. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this terrific Younger Stone Age ax. Please view also my other auctions with relics from the European Prehistory. Powered by The free listing tool. 5600Y.O: GREAT AX 146mms DANISH STONE AGE NEOLITHIC FLINT MEGALITH FUNNEL BEAKER
NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description"Thin Butted Ax Axe Type III a" Length of this terrific patinized piece is 146 mms! Belonging to the middle part and later part of the Early Funnel Beaker Culture I the TRB. Also called Dolmen Period(Megalith Tomb Culture 4000-3400 bc) Agriculture and animal husbandry were introduced in Denmark c. 4000 BC. Wheat and barley were grown and oxen. Sheep, goats and pigs domesticated. Large parts of the land were cultivated during the oldest peasant culture, 4000-2800 BC, and the earliest farmers were energetic builders. They constructed large assembly areas surrounded by moats and palisades like the one found near Sarup on Funen. They also built the oldest stone burial monuments, the dolmens and the passage graves, many thousands of which have been preserved ... morein Denmark. Flint mines were opened and a whole new industry emerged which specialised in the production of elegant, polished flint axes. Large numbers of offerings have been found, including clay pots, flint tools and amber ornaments, and there is evidence of human and animal sacrifices. The first metal was brought into the country from Central Europe in the shape of simple ornaments and flat axe heads made of copper. Thin-butted flint axes. Possesing gently convex sides and edges, and often only slightly curved blade and edges sloping evenly to a broad thin butt; the cross-section of the primary type is therefore a gently rounded rectangle, though some examples possess so narrow edges that the cross-section becomes a pointed oval. This axe is the characteristic work-axe of the Early Neolithic period and a very large number of speciems is known from settlements, dolmens, earth graves and votive deposits over the whole country. They are normally 10-20 cms. long, though the largest measure up to 46 cms. Many speciems are considerably shorter than their original length as a result of use and resharpening; This is especially true of settlements finds, while the long and com
