A large Lower Palaeolithic Clactonian chopper made on a thick flint flake. This chopper is very large and heavy. It has been made into an elongated point. The butt is flat, the sides have some cortex remaining where the fingers and palm are placed. approx 10% This tool is in superb condition with clear detailed working and great patination. Found field walking in Northfleet. Near Swanscombe, Kent. Provenance supplied with sale. Lower Palaeolithic. Clactonian Scraper on a Thick Flake,C238 For sale; from my own personal field walking collection. A wonderful Lower Palaeolithic Clactonian scraping tool. The scraper has been made from a quality black with grey fleck flint nodule. It is sub triangular in plan with a naturally occurring hole in the centre. The working edge has been finely retouched. The tool seems to have been made for two handed use. There is a deep notch underneath for all four fingers on the left hand and a protuding nodule for placing the right hand on. Lower Palaeolithic. Clactonian Scraper/Chopping Tool on a Thick Flake,C237 For sale; from my own personal field walking collection. A wonderful Lower Palaeolithic Clactonian butchering tool. This tool is roughly oval in plan. It has been made from a thick marbled flint flake, the tool has a notched area half way down one side for aiding a firmer grip. There is a very small area that remains cortical. This area fits the hand very well. This tool has been made for scraping and also possibly as a cleaver as the scraping edge is rather robust and could be used as such. At the other end there is a point for chopping. The tool seems to have been made for left and right handed use. It has good detailed working and is in superb condition with nice patination. Lower Palaeolithic Clactonian chopper core from England
This Clactonian-type sub-circular chopper core comes from Maidstone in Kent. And'Bluebell Hill Maidstone' is written on it in white ink. There is also a small label from an old collection. It is made of grey flint. Now patinated white and there are one or two more recent, but not-very-modern, chips showing the colour of the material. A large area of cortex has been left at the'butt' as a handhold. This is a rare item. Particularly with the exact provenance available. Age: c35000BP. Size: 9.3cm x 8.2cm.
