American Dawn: a New Model of American Prehistory by Louis A. Brennan. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover: 390 pages. Publisher: The Macmillan Company; 1970) Who ... morewas the first American man and where did he come from? How long ago did he arrive…and how did he live? At last we are able to piece together the“American Dawn” in all its engrossing complexity– a story that completely contradicts the beliefs so widely held by archaeologists as little as ten years ago. Louis A. Brennan has accomplished a complete survey of American prehistory based on radical new evidence obtained in the last decade. And the result is as surprising as it is compelling, witty, and factual. Comparing yesterday’s archaeological theses with today’s model of American prehistory, the author constructs a remarkable picture of the first American man and the first American community. How did he look, act, exist? What tools did he use, what food did he eat, what clothes did he wear? How did he communicate? How, in fact, did American civilization develop? Now for the first time these questions can be answered. Thanks to recent spectacular advances in dating techniques(carbon 14 and other methods explained in the text) we are able to picture America’s earliest settlers in their natural habitat and lifestyle. Brennan traces the first Americans back to the very beginnings of man. In Olduvai Gorge, East Africa, giving cohesive and wide-ranging commentary on the revolutionary discoveries of eminent archaeologists(such as Leakey and Dart in Africa) and the new world-picture that has evolved over the past decade. But the reader, too, is an explorer, learning how much can be revealed from a clam shell in Croton, New York; from an arrowhead in New Mexico; or from a tree in California. He discovers too the question of environmental determinism, the role played by climate and surroundings in the regional development of American man. And he returns to his beginnings, identity, and primitive traditions with a reawakened knowledge of this new world, his home. CONDITI

Flint Paleolithic Handaxe - Lynford Quarry 60,000 bp
Lynford Quarry Handaxe 60.000 BP. A beautiful and rare handaxe measuring 96mm by 85mm by 30mm at the widest points. Worked from black mottled flint. Extensive retoutch to the working edge. A crisp and unbelievably fresh piece. At lynford a paleolithic open air hunting site was discovered during gravel extractions in 2002/3. A dark horizon was revealed that contained the remains of butchered mammoth, and a wide spread of flint handaxes and tools, all in situ. The site was dated to the middle paleolithic period, and contained Mousterian tools of the Neanderthal people. Collected from Archaeological spoil during late 2004 when the dig had closed. Recorded with Professor P Robins of the Norfolk Archeology unit. The site was open from 2002 to 2006 and is now flooded gravel pits so no longer accessible. Current UK postage is £3.00. (4) Aterian Early Man Points (30,000 - 80,000 BP) Prehistoric African Arrowheads
4) ATERIAN EARLY MAN POINTS. The Aterian industry was a type of stone tool manufacturing developed around the Atlas Region of the Northern Sa hara Desert of Africa. Today's Morocco& Algeria. It dates back to the Middle Stone Age(Middle Paleolithic) and was a development of the Mousterian culture, a tool technology usually associated with Neanderthals. Tools and weapons of the Aterian culture date back 30.000- 50,000 years or more. With at least one Aterian site reported at 82,000 years old. Opinions differ, but it is generally accepted that Aterian tool technology was developed and used by early humans known as Archaic Modern Humans, contemporaries of Europe's Neanderthals. Crude stone tools and weapons had been made and used much further back in time, but the Aterian industry was the among the first to develop a stemmed point ... morethat could be mounted to a shaft and used as a projectile, as a dart, spear or arrow point. These fascinating ancient tools ar e quite rare and represent a milestone in early human development. These pieces are 1 1/4" to 1 3/8" long and clearly show the stem designed for mounting to a shaft. As you see in the photos. They have some minor ancient damage from thousands of years ago, which is common with this type of point. Otherwise they are in very good condition and have a rich ancient patina that only countless eons of exposure to the elements can produce. These are great prehistoric collectible artifacts. The field of Sahara Neolithic Artifacts was expanded by the advent of GPS technology for meteorite hunters in the Sahara Desert. Thousands of years ago North Africa was a temperate environment similar to our own Great Plains. Countless generations of Stone-Age Man lived. Hunted, fought and died there, leaving behind their weapons and tools. Today North Africa consists largely of the Sahara Desert, an inhospitable area almost the size of the United States. Constantly shifting sands and the ability to now safely travel off established trade routes have expanded this fascinating field of

Set of 10 figurines from Vogelherd cave found. Germany. Cast resin replicas. From the internet: The geological context of the discoveries and radiocarbon dating indicate that the figurines belong to the Aurignacian culture. Which refers to an area of southern France and is associated with the arrival of the first modern humans in Europe. Multiple radiocarbon dates from sediment in the Vogelherd Cave yielded ages between 30 000 and 36 000 years ago, the University of Tübingen reports. Some methods give an even older date. Ramonian Point- Epipaleolithic Scraper 10,000-20,000 BP Kubarian Mushabian
This appears to be a scraper from the Epipaleolithic period in the Negev Desert. The scraper has the form of a Ramonian Point. A tool industry particular to the region in which it was found and dating to between 20,000 and 10,000 BP- most likely 15,000 BP. It was part of the industry previously classified under the Negev Kubaran/Mushabian classification but since has been identified as a unique industry of its own, identified by blades and scrapers with a slanted scalene triangular point. This piece is made from brown flint with a natural patina from age. One side of the piece exhibits the parallel lines in the flint. It is 7 cm x 2.5 cm and weighs 20 g. This is a beautiful addition to any collection. Please email me with your questions.

Aterian Early Man Tool (30,000 - 80,000 BP) Color, Prehistoric African Arrowhead
ATERIAN EARLY MAN ARTIFACT. With at least one Aterian site reported at 82.000 years old. Opinions differ. But it is generally accepted that Aterian tool technology was developed and used by early humans known as Archaic Modern Humans, contemporaries of Europe's Neanderthals. This piece is 1 5/8" long. 1" wide, and 3/4" thick. It is not a projectile point, but rather a small scraper or knife, a tool used by the same culture. It is in very good condition with minor ancient damage, has a rich ancient patina that only countless millennia of exposure to the elements can produce. And is lightly translucent when held up to the light. This is a wonderful prehistoric collectible artifact. And remember.
