TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish The Pictorial Encyclopedia of ... moreThe Evolution of Man by J. Jelinek. NOTE: We have 75.000 books in our library, almost 10,000 different titles. Odds are we have other copies of this same title in varying conditions, some less expensive, some better condition. We might also have different editions as well(some paperback, some hardcover, oftentimes international editions) If you don’t see what you want, please contact us and ask. We’re happy to send you a summary of the differing conditions and prices we may have for the same title. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 551 pages. Publisher: The Hamlyn Publishing Group Limited; 1975) In this encyclopedia Dr. Jelinek outlines many of the discoveries that have led to the unraveling of Man's origins and development. This exciting topic is treated here in four main sections. Firstly. The author places Man in the context of the zoological classification including his relationships with monkeys and apes. Dr. Jelinek builds up a fascinating picture of how Man has evolved from primitive ape-like creatures to more advanced forms such as Neanderthal-man. The following three sections show how Man has learned to make use of fire, to make and use tools for hunting, to build dwellings more advanced than just holes in a cliff, and finally how he has expressed himself throughout history in painting, sculpture, and jewelry. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. Lightly read hardcover w/dustjacket. Hamlyn(1975) 552 pages. Inside of book and brown cloth covers are very nice. Dustjacket evidences modest edge and corner shelfwear. Based on the evidence, I'd guess only the first half of the book was read, the last half merely flipped through once or twice(to see the illustrations) but not ever actually"read" At worst the book has been read once by someone with a very light"footprint" Inside the pages are clean, crisp, unmutilated, tightly bound, and unmark

The Lost Civilizations Of The Stone Age by Richard Rudgley. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 310 pages. Publisher: The Free Press; 1999) ISBN: ... more0684855801. This title challenges the notion that modern history is far superior to the events and accomplishments of early civilization. The author. A scholar of prehistoric art, religion, and technology, argues that the occurrences and characteristics of later human history have their origins in prehistory. He argues that the system of constellations in the night sky, the use of calculating instruments, and artistic representations all prove that the people of the Stone Age were anything but primitive. Perhaps after reading this insightful book, the reader will come away with an entirely different take on prehistory and its legacy. CONDITION: New hardcover w/dustjacket. Free Press(1998) 320 pages. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelf wear to dustjacket and covers. Dustjacket also exhibits very mild rubbing(dustjacket is high-gloss black and so shows rub marks very easily. Even merely from being shelved between other books) Very minimal shelf wear consistent with new stock from an open-shelf book store(such as Barnes& Noble, etc. Pages are pristine; clean, crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread. Extremely rare Neanderthal Jasper Blade from Fontmaure France
A very rare blade with a natural hole in it. From the famous Neanderthal-site Fontmaure in France This piece might been worn around the neck of a Neanderthal! Beautiful piece with nice flaking 8 CM/ 3.15 inch Middle Paleolithic 80.000– 40.000 BP Fontmaure is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. It is located in the Vienne region. In the middle of France. Artifacts from Fontmaure have been dated 40.000-80.000 years and are fashioned by the Neanderthal people. The unique and extremely beautiful artifacts are often made of jasper. This jasper is only found at this site and makes these tools unique in the world. The small and intensively occupied site of Fontmaure was located directly on exposure of high quality jasper. The coincidence between raw material and the occurrence of this intensively occupied open-air sites is one ... moreof the most striking characteristics of Middle Paleolithic site distributions in SW France.
The Neandertal was named after theologian Joachim Neander. Who lived nearby in Düsseldorf in the late 17th century. Neander" is a classicized form of the common German surname Neumann. In turn, Neanderthals were named after"Neander Valley" where the first Neanderthal remains were found. The term Neanderthal Man was coined in 1863 by Anglo-Irish geologist William King. From the period called"Mousterian" 150 000- 40 000 b.c. tools made of stone. Settlement sites and some parts of human skulls were found. Evidence for hunters and collectors in this period was found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and other parts of Germany. Neanderthals are thought to have used tools of the Mousterian class. Which were often produced using soft hammer percussion, with hammers made of materials like bones, antlers, and wood, rather ... morethan hard hammer percussion, using stone hammers. A result of this is that their bone industry was relatively simple. However, there is good evidence that they routinely constructed a variety of stone implements. Neanderthal(Mousterian) tools most often consisted of sophisticated stone-flakes, task-specific hand axes, and spears. Many of these tools were very sharp. There is also good evidence that they used a lot of wood, objects which are unlikely to have been preserved until today. Rare Middle Paleolithic North African Neanderthal Mousterian Backed Knife
MUSEUM-GRADE RARE NORTH AFRICAN NEANDERTHAL MOUSTERIAN BACKED KNIFE WITH SUPERIOR EDGE KNAPPING My father was working for Haliburton in the Sahara Desert on the outskirts of Algeria Africa. I looked up alot of information on these artifacts and this item is fine to supreme grade and valued around $ 895 It was found by my father while he was working there. Exposed Site- Sahara Desert. North Africa MIDDLE PALEOLITHIC PERIOD(MOUSTERIAN) 60.000- 30,000 years ago This Middle Paleolithic stone tool was fashioned out of quartzite in the Mousterian tradition and could have been used by Neanderthals and Homo sapiens between approximately 60.000 and 30,000 years ago. It was collected from an exposed Mousterian site in the Sahara Desert of North Africa. The tool tradition of the Neanderthals is called the Mousterian Tradition. The Mousterian Tool Culture ... moreis found in one of the longest and most spectacular sequences in the whole of North Africa. Several open and cave sites are documented. Oddly. The North African Mousterian technology appears as fully developed unlike the gradual formative stages found in Europe. Neanderthal genome mapping has shown that numerous regions across North Africa had evidence of Neanderthal human populations whereas. Sub-Saharan Africa was devoid of Neanderthals. This is a masterfully executed large Mousterian BACKED KNIFE of the finest possible quality and condition. The refined shaping and secondary flaking on both sides is of the most advanced form for this tool tradition. The form and execution of this extraordinary knife must be held to be appreciated. Designed for RiGHT HAND use with a flaked flat back for comfort and a masterfully retouched cutting edge with a series of well-defined secondary blows to form a sharp blade edge. This rare specimen displays all edges and sharp tip without modern damage. This tool possesses natural desert sediment still intact in the microscopic crevices and a lack of any modern flake scars- traits found only with authentic Paleolithic Saharan stone tool a
