Antique Federal Style Flame Mahogany Dresser w/ Mirror Chest of 6 Drawers Bureau
Antique Federal style mirrored dresser or chest of drawers dating from the early 1900's. Stunning flame mahogany veneers grace the surfaces of this piece and are decorated with intricate contrasting inlay. An inlay medallion of a lamp has been placed atop the swivelling mirror. This piece has six drawers ina 3 over 3 configuration. Providing ample storage space. All the drawers are made with high quality dovetail construction. The entire piece is raised off of the ground by short tapered square legs sitting on brass and wood casters. Overall. This piece is in good condition. There is some noticeable silver loss to the mirror(see pictures) but no cracks or other damage. The wood has some noticeable wear associated with age, including chips and breakage to the veneers or inlay, including the lamp maedallion at the top of the mirror. See ... morepictures. There is also a chip out of the left side finial and the right side finial is missing altogether. The knob that goes over the swivel action of the mirror on the right side has come off, but we do have it. The wheels of the casters do no turn easily and probably need to be oiled. You can tell it is quality because as you open up the four dove tail drawers. You see that it is lined with tiger sawn and quarter sawn oak, which is a very expensive wood to use for the inside of the drawer. It was probably made by Berkey and Gay or a company similar in quality and I can tell you it is a heavy quality piece. It has a beveled edge round corner top, fluted columns coming down both sides, reeded tapered legs and brass embossed Sheraton style rings. The top drawer has a zebrawood veneer on the outside edges and burl walnut panel in the center, while all the rest are solely burl walnut. It is finished in a dark walnut stain. The top has been re-sprayed to reveal the gorgeous grains of the fine woods used in this gorgeous chest. The overall size is 43 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 42 inches high. This is an antique chest of drawers. From around 1910 or 1920, looks to be Empire in style. Chest of drawers has a tiger stripe veneer, in overall great condition, but veneer has some cracking on the front corners. This piece is roughly 4 ft tall x 4 ft wide x 2 ft deep, and it has 4 full drawers as well as 5 small accessory drawers. The drawers have dovetail joints. Some of the drawer bottoms on the full drawers are coming apart, could be easily repaired. There are dust frames in between the full drawers. It is being sold as is.
