I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There ... moreare hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side has a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Antique American Miniature Chest of Drawers Hand Painted Decoration Early Doll
This middle 19th century chest is crafted of ash and walnut with thin pine wood backing and square nail construction. It measures 12 ¼” tall x 13 ¼” wide x 7 ½” deep and has lovely turned walnut knobs and lively side cuts at the base. The top and drawer faces feature red striped edges framing free-hand floral decoration in red and green under an original layer of golden varnish. The drawer fronts are excellent; the top has a split along the back edge. Round water marks and wear to the paint. This chest is fresh from a northern Indiana estate and has un-touched dirty surface. I don’t think the surface has been enhanced since the 1800s but you will note numerous round, wire nail repairs along the back rabbet into which the back slips with some splits and wood loss. Not sure whether it is a salesman sample or a miniature collectible, but it is a very nice primitive piece. Not sure what the wood is, it is painted with old pale green paint Three drawers with original wood drawer pulls, the top pull is different, not sure if it was broken, nicely constructed with beadboard sides and empire detail. Old unfinished wood on the back, with the top third missing. Hand Painted, Distressed 1920's Chest
This is a very old mahogany chest of drawers. Edwardian style, the 1920's era; hand painted in black, distressed portion is stained mahogany to give it a finished look, finished with a citrus paste wax. The upper chest has a back splash that was kept the original mahogany wood with the inset in black. All the drawers are dove-tailed. The brass keyholes are original but do not lock. However drawer is cracking inside, but does not effect use. Mirror is spotting on top. Please see pictures. Pictures do not do justice to this piece, a must have! Here is sum history on this furniture: 1915- 1931: The era between World War I and the Great Depression was Berkey& Gay's zenith of production. Upholstering was spun off to subsidiaries like Wallace Upholstery and Grand Rapids Upholstery. So Berkey& Gay concentrated on living room and bedroom suites. Although designs ran the gamut of freely translated European and American revival styles, most tended toward larger, heavier periods like Elizabethan, William and Mary, and American Empire. ... morePieces were well constructed. A variety of woods was used. Mostly dark mahoganies and walnuts, with occasional accents of lighter woods, painted decoration, or exotic materials like turquoise. These were further darkened by the application of stains wiped around edges and carvings, to give the appearance of age. Antique Vintage Painted Marble Commode Chest of Drawers Italian Nightstand Table
Beautiful. Petite carved wood chest of drawers with marble top. The commode was probably some sort of burled wood that has now been painted a flat black. Because it was painted over burl, you can see the varying textures on the sides. It looks like the hardware or at least screws were replaced at some point as some of the screws are quite long when you open the drawers. The bottom drawer is hard to open. Some chipping to paint. The marble top is a beautiful shape with varying veining of purples and pinks. The piece is a great size and would work as an end table, nightstand, storage piece in a powder room, etc. I would recommend white glove shipping to protect the delicacy of the marble, but I'll leave shipping arrangements up to the buyer. While the drawers and top are cream colored with pink and red roses, blue flowers, and orange and yellow flowers. It has a shabby feel to it.
