Pair of Antique Carved Quartersawn Oak Panels in Original Finish, Griffins, Urns
Here's a pair of highly carved antique oak panels with a beautiful original finish. Of considerable size. They each measure 12" wide by 24" tall with a maximum thickness of about an inch. The condition is outstanding with the exception of a nail hole and a small edge chip on one. Probably from the sides of an impressive sideboard or cabinet. I would estimate the date of manufacture to be from about 1880 to 1900. With classic florals, urns, vines and griffins. The camera flash makes the finish appear much more shiny than in real life. And each piece is accented with a wooden ribbon flourish. Each piece is approx. 15" at its longest and approx. 8" at its widest and 2" at their thickest. As in photos# 5& 6 you can see the bottom of each piece has a cut out to it can fit on the edge of a back board of a piece of furniture or architecture. As in the photos. The carved wood ribbon has a repaired break. I repaired them with glue. I just want to say with pressure it would be very possible for my repair to not hold so I cannot guarantee my repair will hold during the stress of shipping ... moreno matter how well I pack the item. This is a gorgeous pair of table legs. Set of two front legs for an Occasional table. They are solid wood. I’m not positive what the wood is, but it looks like maybe pine, possibly hickory? Not really sure but they are gorgeous! The legs are pretty heavy and sturdy. You can see sand marks from the machine or electric tool that was used and I’m not certain this was sculputed out of one solid slab as I can see lines where they met the pieces after carving them. These are definitely in need of refinishings, one area has a ding but all these look like they should be easy to fix for a wood specialist. I have tried to picture the most obvious and biggest marks. My grandfather brought these left& right matched wood applique decorations from Hawaii about 1899. Look like lotus blossoms He had meant to use them on furniture. But never used them.
