This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. These arms flank a deep and very comfortable down upholstered cushion, thick and very supportive, complimenting the overall cant of the chair- by leaning just slightly backwards. Fresh from local Estate we a pleasure to offer you this beautiful high quality first half of 20th century inlaid and bronze mounted marble top French Commode. The inlay is pleasant. Featuring a bow ties and garland that breaks over 2 large drawers, bows placed behind the handles(hardware) Note the quality of the bronze, feet capped with terrific pedestal like mounts. The marble is dark gray, with"clouds" of lighter veining. Please see the photos of the back, and more importantly of the drawers and locks, so you can see the quality of the secondary wood and dovetailing. Drawers slide in and out like skates, no warping or any such issues. The locks are unusually placed pointing down, only on top two drawers, hence when the drawer is pulled out, the top of the front is all finished and you can't see the locks.
