IMPORTANT PENNSYLVANIA WALNUT BOOKEND INLAID 18TH CENTURY PEMBROKE TABLE WITH EXCELLENT PROVENANCE Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering ... moreyou this superior 18th Century completely correct Pennsylvania walnut Pembroke with string and bookend inlays. Front drawer, faux rear drawer facing in original finish and first surface. This is a notated piece from a highly respected colleagues' personal collection. Pa. inlaid period Pembroke tables are exceedingly rare. This gentlemen was a Prince of our industry and we will all miss him dearly. The proceeds of the sale of his estate was all donated to various charities. Various museums were bequeathed over 100 of his tall case clock collection. We have some amazing pieces from his estate. Some we will keep to remind us of him and other's, like here, will be offered on this sales platform. Everything is original on this Pembroke table right down to the brasses. The original finish has some blemishes on it but we make no apology or excuses for it. We could clean the surface and rub this out but that would be entirely your decision. Ours is not to touch it. We will provide provenance on this piece to its next owner. We will not to some mildly interested party. We have this authority in the case of this estate but we are not advertising his name like a K-Mart special. This man was a refined, kind and generous man who would want his collection shared with the world. He was eager to share his knowledge with any level of collector and despite his great wealth and accomplishments in life he treated everyone with dignity. This table is 33" long, 23 1/4" wide(46 3/4" with its leaves locked up) and stands 28" tall. The extensive use of Cypress for secondary wood, combined with the glue blocks and other construction methods confirms the Charleston origins of this piece. Documented ... mores outhern furniture alone is scarce. Good documented and authenticated Charleston furniture is not only extremely rare. But highly sought after. As a result, even restored, Charleston furniture is very valuable, still fetching $10-20,000 in many markets. I am drastically marking this down to sell it. As we now have two extra chests. 18th century Antique Blanket Chest - GRAIN PAINTED - PA - Dome Trunk untouched
You are bidding on a 18th century"immigrant trunk. It is in great. Original condition. The trunk dates to the 18th century. I have had two of Rhode Island's highly respected colonial antique dealers examine the chest, and both have confirmed my approximation of age. In fact, one antique furniture expert(with a Ph.D. in history) just today, after examining the trunk for 30 minutes, said it is possible that the trunk dates to the mid, or even early 1700's, making it a full 300 years old. But I will err on the side of understatement, and simply say the trunk is 18th century. The expert was very impressed with the shape and character of the hand-forged hinges. And in particular, was effusive in his excitement with regard to the quality of the hand-forged locking mechanism(Please compare this latch/lock with the lock on the $45,000 ... moretrunk currently on eBay) It still closes with"vise-like" strength. And we both marveled at the key.which appears to be original to the locking mechanism. Can you imagine that?nearly 300 years old, and still with the probable original key. I can't go a year without losing a key. With regard to the paint: neither the two colonial America antique dealers. Nor myself, can say with absolute 100% certainty that the paint is original to the piece. Though, after examining the trunk very closely.front, back, sides, top and bottom.we could find not a thing that points to anything other than original paint. It is simply extraordinary to find a piece of this age with such deep, rich color. So I am going to err on the side of understatement, and simply say very old paint. Most probably original. With regard to the trunk's origin: Years ago. When I purchased the trunk at auction, the auctioneer had described the trunk"as found in Berks Co. Pennsylvania. This makes sense to me, as the trunk certainly has the look of northern European origin.probably Dutch, German, or Scandinavian. The trunk measures 27 1/2" tall(top of dome) x c. 47" wide x c. 23" deep at

EARLY 18TH CENTURY SEA CHEST IN WONDERFUL GREEN PAINT ORIGINAL FINISH
ALL ORIGINAL EARLY 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE PERIOD SEA CHEST Bay Colony Antiques takes the most exceptional honor in offering you this exceptionally nice early 18th Century very early Queen Anne period dovetailed pine Sea Chest in fantastic original green paint finish. This is a very special little chest from an amazing collection with some most notable characteristics. Wallace Nutting's Furniture Treasury and Edgar Miller's American Furniture Catalog goes into very exactly detail on these small sea chests and what defines them from blanket boxes both with illustrations of very close variations of this very same chest. These were made in both England and in the American Colonies. Given they were made for sea travel its virtually impossible to say with absolute confidence its American vs English. We are not placing great importance ... moreon this one fact but believe it is American. This chest possesses very nicely detailed precise dovetailed construction. Molded top, snipe hinges, cotter pinned fastened iron side carrying handles with finely detailed rosettes, original old world iron lock with arrow catch(bend back to prevent chest from locking) cedar topped candle till, twin molded front panels with strong remnants of painted Pomegranates and robust ball feet. All its hardware is correct and original. The painting technique employed here is a green over a blue paint finish. The process ended up giving the chest almost a glowing hue effect. Its a most striking and attractive paint finish with dry crusty surface. This chest measures 37" long, 19 3/4" wide and 18 3/4" tall. This is every day of 275 year old and untouched. There is some dry rot present on a back leg evidencing its age. We have opted to leave it alone. The back unpainted base and back panels shows great age oxidation. A previous owner installed some very nice late 19th Ottoman cloth paper backed wallpaper as the top lid's liner.
