What may be called a High Country Chest since it probably is a product of Northern England produced for a country manor. 2 over 3 drawer configuration w/cock bead and banded decoration. Antique Louis the 14th Rhone Valley Walnut 3 Drawer Chest
I am offering this early 18th century Louis the 14th chest of drawers. This 3 drawer chest is completely hand cut and pegged walnut. It was assembled entirely with dovetails and pegs by a 18th century French cabinet maker. All the original hand cast hardware remains as well as the original key. The piece is heavy with the drawer sides and fronts measuring 1 inch thick. The construction verifies it's age by evidence of hand cuts. Huge dovetails and pegs. The overall measurements are 49"W x 36"H x 24"D. The top is a solid piece of walnut with a knot in the wood as evidenced by the photographs. There are a couple of places where the wood has developed age cracks from being 300 years old. I consider this a validation of the age of the piece and part of it's character and history. There is one imperfection on one corner ... moreof the top(visible in a photograph) that was probably caused by a heat generating light source at some point in it's lifetime prior to electricity. I have seen one other example similar to this in an antique shop in Charleston SC. It had a similar imperfection in the same area as this one. The price on that one was $24,000. ANTIQUE SPANISH SHIP CHEST All Metal 1770'S GOLD SILVER PIRATES
When Purchased. Was advised that this was 17th or 18th C. probably Spanish gold treasure chest in heavy metal with wrought iron hardware including pole brackets and hasps. Hinging lid shows hand wrought rivets and remnants of metal around the perimeter, bottom constructed with hand riveted metal cleats, interior with metal divider. The previously owner had the chest sand blasted, and some parts were removed, but can be easily restored. Some deterioration however, chest very good overall with a wonderful old. Antique Oval Dome Top Iron Bound Medieval 15th/16th Century Chest Coffer Box
Fine Items from ALittleUnlimited Description A fine early iron-bound dome top chest in a rare oval form dating to the late 15th or 16th century. The lid being carved from a single piece of wood. The hand wrought ironwork is beautifully done and in good condition for its age with only a small piece missing from the back bottom corner as shown in the photographs. It retains its original lock, hinges and a key that is likely original and all are in good working order. The lock will only remain in the unlocked position when the key is inserted and turned to the horizontal position. If the key is removed, the lock will automatically lock when the lid is closed. There is a beautifully wrought twisted iron bail style handle on the top for carrying and there is an iron ring attached near the base at each side presumably for tying the box in place ... morewhen travelling. Please view all of the photographs- the condition is superb for its age however there are some cracks to the wood from age and normal wear and tear appropriate for a chest that is approximately 500 years old. Offered for sale is this Early Pennsylvania Walnut Tall Chest-circa 1770! This chest was restored during the centennial era at which time the feet were probably changed as ogee bracket feet should be correct. The feet were most likely worn down or broken hence the restoration. The top was also enhanced with the addition of a broken arch treatment. During that era of restoration strong Chippendale influences were the rage. The work itself is very well done. Those cabinetmakers of the Victorian era had no way of envisioning that the early American furniture they were restoring would be more valuable in a pure state. The back ... moreis original and the hardware is correct in fashion. But replaced recently. Rosehead nails abound the back boards. The finish is also recent, but care was taken not to strip the bare wood. All things considered the chest is beautiful and more dramatic than original. It also isn't $6,000 as is an original. It features intricate carving on the front. Chamfer back paneled, HANDFORGED heart shaped handles, hand wrought rosette nails and square nails, dovetailed joints, wood peg jointed which is all typical for the period. The top has some cracks. It has some newer flat head screws in the top(still older screws) It appears to have been cut down and looks a little uneven when I look at it. Overall this piece is still super solid for the age! Up for auction is a beautiful and unusual 1700's Chippendale style. Two drawer blanket chest refinished and ready to use. This is a beautiful primitive piece with raised storage and two pull out drawers. Wonderful antique details such as the original hinges and the cut Chippendale style legs. This is a wide plank pine chest with Chestnut drawers. Very unusual solid large boards where used from a time when pine could be harvested in this size. The hinges are hand hammered. Knot holes are tin covered to keep mice out. This piece measures 41 1/2" high x 39 1/2" wide x 18 3/4" deep. Here is a beautiful primitive piece with a lot of character. It has a crack on the top from the knot that was in the wood. The Knot is indented. It actually looks kinda neat. I have taken pictures of the damaged parts. Antique Primative 18th Cen. 6 Board Blanket Chest Green c.1790 Rose Head nails
PICK-UP ONLY! A rare. Old, authentic six(6) board blanket chest found in South Carolina. Based on the construction and the rose-head nails, the chest(blanket box) has been dated at around 1790. The boards are made of pine and in surprisingly good condition. There are a few signs of wear. Such as some of the trim is missing from the bottom and top, the locking mechanism is missing and one of the strap hinges is not attached. Also, the till is missing. The hinges are hand made(forged) individually by a blacksmith. The original nails are also individually made by a blacksmith, there are some other nails that have been added later, some for the purpose of attaching some sort of lining, possibly, most of the original nails are in place, I took a photo of 2 of the rose head nails that were in the bottom of the box, one of them appears to be for ... morethe loose strap hinge. There are at least two modern screws that I found. One was put in one of the hinges and another was put on the bottom board to help secure it. The chest is very sturdy and strong. not rickety at all. You can sit, or even stand on it(not that I would) I am asking a fair amount for this very old work of art and important piece of Americana, but I will entertain all reasonable offers. As for shipping and delivery; I am not prepared to ship this large box. With a width of over 42 inches(height and depth are both around 17 1/2" I do not want to try shipping this. I am listing it as; for PICK-UP ONLY. I will try to work with you as best I can. And might be able to meet you half way, if its within a couple hundred miles of Fayetteville, NC I'm not sure if the hideous green paint is original or not.

To the best of our knowledge this chest was made in Bucks County, PA. It is entirely made from 6 boards. Is dove-tailed, and has early square nail and wood peg construction. The chest is 45 1/2' long x 18 1/4" wide. It is 20 1/2" high. It has a 15 1/4" high interior and stores quite a bit. The wood has a nice patina and a lovely feel. We do not have the key. We are selling because we are moving. It has been in a smoke free home.

Beautiful Antique circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin Beautiful Antique Circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin A fine excellent example of a Georgian Dough Bin and Proving Table In excellent solid condition. And with spectacular carved detail. History of the Dough Bin Baking used to be an important weekly task in many households. Bread was a staple food in Europe and North America. People depended on having plenty of it: not just medieval peasants with scant resources. But 19th century middle-class families too. A family of ten needed“three pecks” of flour for a week’s bread. Three pecks is roughly 27 litres The flour was tipped into a dough box or trough to start bread-making. It held the flour more tidily than a bowl. If the trough was on legs it didn’t need to sit on a table. And could be moved to a part of the ... moreroom where the temperature was right. The flour had to be warmed in winter if it had come in from a cold barn or cellar. And a dough box was a good place for that. Once the yeast was added the mixture had to stay quite warm for the dough to rise into a nice“sponge” which would make light bread. You could knead the dough thoroughly in a box-shaped trough without spilling much flour. The box’s position near the fire was important. The lid was good for keeping in the warmth. And it protected the dough from mice, ash, or other horrors: especially useful if the dough was left to rise a long time. Overnight was not unusual. Slow rising generally improved flavour and texture, and did not require temperatures near to blood heat. The lid offered a surface for shaping the risen dough into loaves and then leaving them to rise again after being handled. It stands on stile feet and has a three panel front which does not have later carving as so many do. The lock and striking plate are intact. A good large size. Painted Oak coffer c1836 This is the best'ships Masters' captain or owner) coffer we have seen in the last 30 years. From the historic port of Nantes it is constructed of fine oak rather than the typical pine. The decoration is original and untouched and depicted garlands of flowers with two delightfully naïve canary or oriole type birds. It is impossible to pinpoint its history. They were typically commissioned by ships captains or owners and are usually painted though I have never seen illustrations of such a romantic example. The inference is that it is a marriage piece with the inscribed date that of the union. One can guess it was a gift from a mariner/owner to his bride. The photos do not do it justice it is a wonderfully romantic piece and very effective focal piece for any room. We love it. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ANY FURTHER IMAGES PLEASE JUST ASK. This lovely coffer dates originally from c.1720. But has had carving and alteration added over the years. Most of the alteration is old, probably Victorian, in date. The coffer has a planked top, and a heavily carved front and sides- we believe that the carving was added later, probably in the early Victorian times. It is supported on straight legs with carved shoulders at the front. The coffer has metal hinges, which are old, although we do not believe them to be original to the piece. The bits of newspaper covering the hinges are dated 1798 and 1799. The coffer retains a lock, but this is wobbly and we do not know whether it works ... moreor not- please note that no key is present. The coffer is constructed from solid oak. Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition. But with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some overall scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. As is mentioned above the coffer has had significant alteration over the years- the carving has been added, the hinges have been replaced, and the front plank of the top is also a replacement. A piece of wood has been added to the underneath of the top to strengthen it. There are some areas of wood loss, and some signs of old woodworm- this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. The carved shoulder at the left-hand side of the front is a little loose, as is the lock. There is some wood shrinkage cracking to the planks of the base. The top has some scratching and heavy indentation. Please refer to photographs below. This antique solid oak chest/trunk/coffer came into our family when it was purchased from an antique store in Summerland. California back in the mid 1980's. It was sold to us with the provenance that it is from the early 1700's and was a ship captain's chest/trunk/coffer and was from England. Condition as shown in the pictures is as we received it and it has been well cared for since it came into our hands. It has the original hand forged iron hardware and does have the original working lock and key. The construction is with wood pegs and the main box is made with one piece oak planks, with the front and side decorations placed over that. Overall dimensions of this piece are: approximately 48" long, by approximately 24" deep, by approximately 24" high. Considering that the planks used in this piece are all straight ... moregrain with no knots, it is quite possible the tree the wood came from was very old itself. Antique Sarcophagus Regency Tea Caddy for Restoration. Sarcophagus shaped Regency tea caddy 13 inches long. 6.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep. Possibly walnut but I am not sure of this. Has the original cut glass mixing bowl which is in very good condition. Its not in good condition so would make a very good restoration project. A large piece of veneer is missing from the top but the smaller missing piece is still here and can be fixed back on. The inside is in quite good condition. The loop handles are fine but one needs to be fixed more securely. This once beautiful tea caddy which is in need of some TLC still displays well with great charm. Antique Coffer Chest Cira 1700.Brought from Europe by an old friend.Purchased in Denmark many years ago. Hand carved.Carved markings in left and right corners for owner.Appears of English design. Needs Miscellaneous repairs because of age. 55" Wide-22" Deep- 30" High. This is a completely pleasing old coffer chest. Most of it is early 17th century. It is almost certainly English, Jacobean period(Charles I) but there are losses, additions, alterations and replacements. Not too bad for this type and age of piece, so that sounds a lot worse than it really is. Coffers were richly ornamented chests. The interior accessed through the lid, strongly made and with concealed hinges, and used for storing valuables. The carving on yours is a mixture of'gouged' and'modeled' ornament. Very typical of the period. For instance ... morethe lunette pattern along the top rail(above the doors) is an example of gouged carving and the vertical fern pattern up the stiles(the corner posts) is an example of modeled carving, as of course, is the carving on the doors themselves. What is remarkable about this chest is that it has the original owner's monogram and date. Top left are the initials"ANB" and top right the date. 163? which conforms nicely with the period of the decoration. The reason the last number is missing is that the sides were once paneled and the facing edge of the paneling abutted the stiles at the front and would have provided a space for the last letter and completed the edge of the rising fern pattern to match. So what are the alterations: It looks like the top is original. You can see the individual adz marks in the wood on the underside. It looks like it was hand hewn from a single balk of timber. Originally. It would not have had cupboard doors, just two fixed panels. I am not absolutely certain the door carving is original. Many of these had fanciful Victorian additions. C. 1775-1800 Item# 130002EEP16 This is a well worn and nearly untouched American Pennsylvania Chippendale Blanket Chest over Two Drawers. The interior of the lid covered in a fine woven green textile embroidered lower right"A.M.M. 1779" Likewise, the bottom of the inside of the chest bears the very faint initials and date"A M M 1779" these difficult to capture accurately with the camera and hard to see also with the eye. The underside of the lid of the till is inscribed in pencil"Hannah Britton" in a script that would suggest a somewhat early inscription by someone who owned the chest at one point. Crafted entirely of tulip ... morepoplar. Each surface of the case is crafted of a single solid unjoined board painted with a heavily oxidized brown streaked paint. The dovetails that join the case stretch from the top to the bottom of each toe, the feet becoming an integral part of the form, these well preserved and fully original. The molding around the lid, the midsection and the base are applied in the same manner, each with tiny wooden pins hammered through at regular intervals. The pair of drawers both bear pairs of replaced hardware, these inserted into the same original holes, both locks appearing to be fully original. The drawer frame is dovetailed front and back, the bottom heavily chamfered into rabbets on either side and nailed at the back in the typical manner. The interior of the chest has a later stain. While the 18th Century blanket chest is a very prevalent form. These are regularly refinished and rarely retain the original oxidized surface- even fewer also retain numerous matched inscriptions, dated and with some prior ownership inscribed on the interior. Well preserved in every way, this piece is untouched for the most part, of a desirable medium size and sturdy and strong in every way. These

Founding member of the Museum of Southern Decorative Arts, Winston Salem, and antique dealer/ appraiser from 1962– to present. The chest has a bold crown mold. Over six graduated drawers. The drawer fronts, crown mold, and feet are tiger maple, with straight grain maple sides. The chest is raised on original bracket feet with spurs. The case of the chest is dovetailed together as well as all the drawers. The hardware is of a later date, but is the correct style. The chest is well proportioned. The chest has been refinished at some point, but retains a nice mellow color. Very little damage, just on some of the iron and I have the small the piece that is missing from the left bottom, it needs to be reattached. No key. There are two U-shaped pieces that would attach the trunk to a coach in the back. I have the shipping manifest with the shipping date of Feb. 1972 when my parents shipped it from Germany.
