Measures 39" High x 19 1/2" Wide at Front, and 14 1/2" Wide at Rear. Seat is 18" at Front and 14" Wide at Rear. Has a short crack in the side of one leg. Top of Hickory splint Seat is 15" from the floor, legs were cut to make a slipper chair.

Circa 1830s, or so, and most likely Pennsylvania in origin. Splat is 12" x 6 5/8" and 3/8" thick, and it is in very good condition with minor vintage wear and a good patina from age and use. This is the best looking part of any Pennsylvania chair, and it makes a good decoration if you like painted furniture and folk art Americana. This was just found in New England. Shaped swell stretchers. In very good condition. Late 19th, early 20th century. The name sack-back refers to a sack-like covering that is said to have been pulled over the backs of these chairs with the purpose of warding off winter drafts. Sack-backs almost always had an oval seat. Sometimes shield or D shaped seats were used, but these would be custom-made chairs. Basic production models would have seven long spindles and four short ones, fancier ones might have nine long and six short. A Windsor chair is a chair built with a solid wooden seat into which the chair-back and legs are round-tenoned, or pushed into drilled holes, in contrast to standard ... morechairs, where the back legs and the uprights of the back are continuous. The seats of Windsor chairs were often carved into a shallow dish or saddle shape for comfort. Traditionally, the legs and uprights were usually turned on a pole lathe. Offering a very rare and original 1925 Windsor Arm Chair. Part of The Merikord Line and built by The American Chair Company. Its very rare to find a chair of this quality and age that still retains it original label. As can be seen in the last photo. The chair is marked"The Merikord Line" The Merikord Line was a collection of Windsor chairs with rush seats. Since the Merikord line was primarily all wicker construction. Its unclear as to who made the chair itself. The condition is great aside from some chipping on the back of the splat(see last photo) The rest of the seat retains it original rush and finish. ANTIQUE VINTAGE VICTORIAN 20" WOOD CARVED CHAIR SPLAT
An old 20" Victorian Chair Splat never used and not completely finished as you can see in the photos. It is 8" across the top and 5 1/4" on the bottom and 1" thick. I got it from a master craftsman who is in his late 80's and was forced to down size to a smaller shop and was getting rid of extra pieces he saved over the years for patterns etc. It would make nice wall hanger with a nice antique finish. It has a slight curve as you can see in the photo. This craftsman had a shop in NY City at one time years ago and once made a set of chairs for Nat King Cole.

VERY RARE 18TH C CONNECTICUT CHIPPENDALE SIDE CHAIR WITH HEART DECORATED SPLAT Description: AN EXTREMELY RARE 18th Century CONNECTICUT COUNTRY CHIPPENDALE SIDE CHAIR with a fully developed and scrolled HEART DECORATED center splat with beaded legs and stretchers. Connecticut, Circa 1760-1770, all in the BEST OLD GRUNGY SURFACE AND PATINA. Rare Connecticut example with a fully developed HEART CUT center splat. Wonderful CARVED EARS. It also has nice added seat strips that are original. Often. Country versions were made with the added strip that covered the ends of the rush seat. It was an easy way to preserve the most vulnerable area of the seat. The paper rush seat is circa 1940 and is in very good condition. FEET ARE FULL HEIGHT AND COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. 19th Century Pierced Shaped Splat Scrolled Arm Rocking Arm Chair Penn Dutch
Antique 1840-1860 est. Pierced Splat Back. Scrolled Arm, Rolled Plank Rocking Arm Chair Turned Legs and stencil like painting- unsure if this is the original paint/laquer. The few others that I have seen have been green in color. And as you can see, this is brown. This has a great pierced Splat with fairly intricately hand cut wood The chair is very substantial and has overly thick scrolled wooden arms and rockers It has a great. Deep, rolled plank with some painted detail The chair is in fair condition for it's age. But has been repaired here and there over time. The left arm of the chair is loose, and should be properly repaired. The signs of age consist of typical issues- chipping or fading paint. Some loose(but repairable) joints, The wood has been weathered and that is apparent in the photos. The chair has survived over 150 years ... moreand I believe if properly cared for. It could make it another 150 years. This very same styled chair from the same region sold recently at Skinner's in Boston for over $400. This is a RARE and sought after. More rugged style with ample support. The chair measures 41.75" Tall 17" Deep and 20.5" Wide The arms and rockers are much more"meatier" than on most others that i've seen measuring 2" x 2" Sq. Again. There are signs of age and wear, and there have been repairs made in the past, some correct, and some not so. But the item has great structure and form and with a little patience and professional care could be repaired appropriately. Circa 1850 Child's Yew Wood Splat Back Windsor Arm Chair From England Antique
This 19th century English child's Windsor arm chair was probably made between 1820 and 1870. I believe the wood is yew. The seat is 12" tall. From floor to top of back it is 28" and 16.75" at the widest part, across the arms- all measurements are approximate. It has an upper and lower splat back with 2 spindles on each side of the upper splat The legs are turned with a nice double ring and there is a crinoline stretcher. It has ball feet and the underarm supports are nicely turned. As far as I can tell, it is all original, including the finish. I have rubbed oil on it, but that is all. The seat has a stain on the front left- you can see it in the 2nd picture. Also, the seat wood has a rather large knot- part of the knot is missing and has left a small crater- you can see it up close in picture#4. The last picture shows ... morea crack by one of the rear spindles- it runs from the spindle to the edge of the seat- it is an old crack. If you know more about this chair than I do, please feel free to correct me so I can be as accurate in this description as possible. Overall condition is very good. Happy to answer all questions. Beautiful Victorian era side chair. The vase shaped splat has wonderful grain and is crowned with a trefoil carving. The cane seat has a fret-carved serpentine skirt. Two curved front legs are attached to the straight back legs with turned H-shaped stretchers. Overall. The chair is in good condition. The caning has no breaks and very little wear and is probably newer. There are some water spots across the front edge of the seat, but no breaks or other damage to the wood. The stiles are smooth and bent wood. The seat has a split where one of the spools attach. The front legs and stretchers are turned. The rockers are in great condition with no splits or cracks. The screws on the back side left stile have been replaced and there is a split in the bottom of the left stiles bent wood where it attaches to the seat. See ... morethe pictures below. ONE FANCY MAPLE WOOD FLAMINGO CHAIR SPLAT FURNITURE SALVAGE
This is for one Fancy Maple Flamingo Chair Splat. The Flamingo is 8" T by 6" W and 5/8" thick. It was never cut out of the blank or finished as you can see in the photos. It is in very good condition except for discoloration and a little dust and a crack on the bottom right corner that you can see in the photos. I got it from a master craftsman who is in his late 80's and was forced to down size to a smaller shop and was getting rid of extra pieces he saved over the years for patterns etc.

Antique Carved Wood Oriental Architectural Remnant Salvaged Piece Chair Splat?
Up for auction is an antique wood carved furniture remnant recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It features two figures surround by stylized flowers, in a relief carving and is found in good used condition. It is antique,but uncertain to the age. The edges of this piece has flanges, much like a chair splat. Primary colors are golf on a red background. The back shows old age,with why appears to be burned marks throughout the back, best seen in photo#5. Overall size is approximately 73/4" in diameter, 10 3/4" from one end of the flange to the other. It is approximately 1/2" thick. The wood is a soft wood. This remnant is not signed. A nice architectural remnant of display or repurposing. Can he hung as art. MA CHIPPENDALE UPHOLSTERED SEAT SIDE CHAIR with a fully developed and scrolled carved crest with a highly developed and scrolled slat with squared legs and stretchers, Circa 1760-1780, all in a nice old and possibly original dry surface. Early 19th Century Vasiform Splat Back Windsor Arm Chair Stamped M QUINCEY
This auction features what I believe to be is a rare late 1700s European vasiform splat back. Low back Windsor chair. It's primitive construction includes visible pegs in the seat from where the legs are attached, peg construction throughout and uneven turnings. There are also nails throughout the chair that I believe were added later for reinforcement or perhaps a historic repair. The finish is undeniably original and with a beautiful patina. Its original and period spanish brown painted surface is extensively worn as one would expect along the seat, back, and especially along the armrests, which are so smooth they have a different feel than the rest of the wood. The hoop back and comb design is accented by a simple and unornate splat with a marginal vase shape. The feet are worn and at uneven lengths, but the chair has been leveled. ... moreIt is strong and sturdy and can easily still perform its intended function. It stands approximately 34.5" high, and the seat is approximately 19.5" wide. The bottom of the chair is branded MQUINCEY but I have not been able to find any information on this maker.
