joe calcite INDUSTRIAL CAST IRON WORKBENCH/ TABLE LEGS This offering is for a set of vintage or antique cast iron table or workbench(work bench) legs. These are very heavy duty.carrying an eight foot work top when found. They have a notch built in to hold a stretcher/ reinforcing board. The top piece has a built in 1.5" step up from front to back. As well as a brace for a backsplash. There are no maker's or foundry marks that I found. The rust is very light and much of it is'flash' rust caused by all the rain and moisture in the last weeks. No cracks were found. One small chip on one foot can be seen in photo 11. There is some reddish paint on the front of one leg. The height from the floor to the lower brace is 9" To the top of the front section is 30.5" to the top of the rear section is 31" to the top of ... morethe backsplash brace is 37" On the top, the front/lower section is 13.5" deep, and the rear/upper section is 15.5" deep. The usable space between the front and back legs, for a shelf for instance, is 15" The distance from the back of the splash brace to the front lip is 30.5" Distance between the outer edges of the front and back feet is 24" Each leg weighs just under 60 pounds. This is a set of 4 Gothic/Victorian style cast iron claw feet. They measure approximately 4" tall and 3/4" diameter at the opening. These would be a great addition to a piece of furniture as they are head turners. Each claw holds a glass ball that acts as the base that touches the floor. There is obvious wear. As there should be for any items of this age but overall I would say these are in good vintage condition. 10' Long Industrial style table with cast iron legs and antique carpenters bench
Just got done with this piece. The top is very old. It came out of a carpenters shop in Lancaster county Pa, it has alot of wear marks, saw marks, screw holes etc on it. I stained and glazed it to complement the legs, and added some huge bolts to the top to give it some(more) visual interest. The legs are gorgeous. They were in a patternmakers shop that had been in business since the 1920's. And held up workbenches there. The top is 10' long. 32" wide, and 32.5" tall. Can easily be raised taller by adding stretchers on top of the legs if you wanted it at island height, say. More pics can be found at theretrofactory.com. The glass balls have several dings and cracks and chips. The feet have been painted before and that is all peeling off. They are rusty. Great design though, unique. These are smaller ones, measuring just under 4 inches long. The opening for the legs is just under an inch. Please look at all the photos. This old cast iron base has a cool industrial look. It's actually an old cream separator base, but would work great as a decor piece or a machine stand. It weighs around 40 lbs unpacked and measures about 17 1/4" tall. 15" by 20" at the bottom, and 5" by 7" at the top. It has a bolt in the center of the top that has been cut off. The bolt head is underneath, you might be able to get it out, if not a top could still be mounted using the bigger holes. It has aging and wear. Some surface rust etc, but is awfully cool! Vtg Antique Original 1881 #2 A.H. Andrews Cast Iron School Desk Bench Legs Parts
This is a fantastic pair of early original antique A.H. Andrews cast iron school desk legs from the 1880's. There is a patent date on one of the seat brackets that looks like 1881. There is a large number 2 in the middle of both legs that might correspond with the size or model of the desk. Others I've seen didn't have numbers or were marked with a number 3. And these look like they have more detail. They are also marked New York, Chicago. There is some black paint left. But the majority of the paint has worn off and has been replaced by surface rust. The decorative bracket that holds the seat rotates on both legs, so the seat could have been pushed down for use or up storage or transport. These would make a fantastic bench or architectural piece. They are still sturdy and solid, moving parts still move, and nothing is broken, ... morebent, or missing. There are three holes on each foot, so they could be bolted down. There is only one other screw hole on each, at the end of the seat bracket, so I'm not sure how a desk top or bench would attach. They each measure 29" W with the seat down or 19" W with it up and stand 27 1/2" H. They measure 18" W at the feet and 14" W where the desk top attaches. They will be packed very well and insured during shipping.
