Pair of Antique French 19th Century Furniture Corner Display Shelves A pair of antique. Early 19th century, French corner shelves. The shelves are 12.55 inches tall, have a depth of 7.45 inches& one side is 8 inches long. The shelves are completely hand-carved& silver leaf gilded. It is typical that all of the parts that were not visible to the eye were not covered in silver leaf as the process and the material was very expensive at the time. Hence, the back is painted and the shelf cover might have been covered with a remnant of fine cloth or silk. This type of étargère or what-not shelf was extremely popular at the late 18th century court and was used to display favourite bibelots. I.e. a Meissen or KPM porcelain figure. This auction is for a wonderful antique corner what not shelf. It is Victorian. Was used to display fancy glassware etc. and from the mid to late 1800's. Made of a beautiful walnut, it is of a nice weight and is sturdy. It is about 60 inches tall. It is in very good condition for its age- it does have one piece of decorative trim that is missing on the upper left(see photos) This could be replaced or you could probably remove the decorative trim from both sides if you want to even it up. There is one small area of old scratches in the wood on the second to bottom shelf.see last picture) I consider this very minor. I believe it is the original finish and it is in great condition. Antique hanging corner cupboard primitive furniture original paint,glass 19th c
Offered is a 19th century. Antique, hanging corner cabinet with the original, milk based, mustard paint. It measures 44" tall x 30" across x 14" deep. The back sides measure 22" across. The glass looks all original and is plastered in. It's truly a wonderful example of South Central, Amish Country, grain painted primitives. This beautifully carved corner corbel probably came off of a piece of antique furniture or possibly out of an ornately decorated room. It could be repurposed and added to a piece of furniture. Condition is very good, with one showing a small hairline crack at a corner. These are quite old, with a worn patent date from the later 1800s, and there may be some spot rust found in crevises. They are not cast at 90 degree angles, but a little larger, almost for a tapered trunk side. These casters are ready for use, and will be welcome additions to your project or parts collection. Stunning example of a French cast solid bronze corner furniture embellishment in the style of Louis XV. In excellent condition with character patina but would look splendid cleaned and restored to it's former gleaming beauty. The centre recessed oval panel shows a bow and a sheaf of arrows. This is topped with the classic Louis bow with the bow ends extending to form the curved arms which are decorated with flowers. This is a beautiful piece of antique French decorative art. There is a threaded bolt hole on the back with which it was presumably attached to the top of the frontal leg of a piece of furniture.
