Upper Paleolithic, Amazing Reworked Flint Burin on Oblique Retouched Truncation
Upper Paleolithic. Amazing Reworked Flint Burin on Oblique Retouched Truncation Description Type: asymmetrical dihedral burin(on oblique retouched truncation) on flake. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Upper Paleolithic. From Gravettian to Magdalenian III. Dating: approx. 28.500 BP to 15.000 BP. Description: Size: length 4.5 cm, weight 18 grams, Shape. Retouch: this amazing burin is made on a sturdy elongated flake. It obviously is a significantly reworked/ resharpened tool. Originally is was a burin on oblique retouched truncation. Most of this great retouch is still visible at the wide distal end. Yet part of it is removed by at least four short transverse burin blows. The left lateral edge has four long blows, the very long last one is stopped by a fine retouch. The proximal end of the tool is a genuine old break, with the same bright creamy ... morepatination as all other surface. Raw-material: flint. Entirely creamy patinated, Preservation: very well. No modern damages, Additional Information. Literature: burins were made from the Mousterian to the Neolithic. It is a robust tool(in most cases) and classifiable into many different types. It was used to work wood. Bone and antler, and even for rock-engravings, as the finds in the cave of Lascaux proved. Many burins have an interesting life history, since they were often resharpened, and sometimes, by resharpening, the type of burin has been changed. Lit: Desruisseaux, Outils Préhistoriques, Paris, 2002. Origin. Site: a famous settlement site in the Department Dordogne which was occupied in Gravettian. Solutrean and Magdalenian.
