We will do the best to solve the problem Please don't miss it for your collection! This ancient treasure has waited for Hundreds of years to be held by a living admiring hand and now you have this opportunity. Note: The color may deviate a little from the picture to the real item. Description The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can China's long jadeware history. In China, jadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" and"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status. Certainly, different people will have various views on the value of the same jade object. It is difficult to have a unanimous standard.

Ancient Prehistoric Stone Age Neolithic Flint Danish Dagger Scandinavian
A beautiful. Extremely rare and well provenanced neolithic dagger, dating to approximately 2300- 2000 B.C. and found in Scandinavia. This beautiful chip stone tool was made from a large piece of flint. Broken down and then chipped into form, the attractive surface flaking was created by the use of a soft hammer, likely made from bone, or antler. Beautiful stitching marks, clearly showing where each chip was removed by the ancient knapper. The emergence of flint daggers in late neolithic Scandinavian cultures is seen as a fascinating response to new technology being used in the production of bronze daggers in central Europe. From the 3rd millennium onwards. This new metal weaponry clearly made an impression on the surrounding cultures of this period, who began to make flint copies, and who's influence can be seen through their stylistic ... moresimilarities. This fascinating early flint implement. Dates to the north-west European Neolithic period(approx 4000-2000 B.C. This period saw the dawn of civilization, when Early man was leaving the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. This transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. Length: 4 3/4 inches. Condition: Good. Tip and handle of dagger broken, old collection label, likely bearing the find site, still attached. Provenance: An extremely well provenanced piece. From the collection of James Curle(1862-1944) of Melrose, Scotland, and thence by descent. Although a lawyer by profession, Curle was an accomplished amateur archaeologist and his name remains one of the most famous in the field of Romano-British Archaeology, having excavated and published extensively in the early 1900's. From 1888-1903 Curle acquired the most magnificent collection of Nordic antiquities outside Scandinavia, eventually selling most of his pieces to the British Museum in 1921. The Curle collection in the British Museum has been the subject of numerous publications and remains an important

Prehistoric Europe 700,000 B.C. Stone Age to Early Greeks Neanderthal Neolithic
TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Prehistoric Europe From Stone Age Man to the Early Greeks by Philip Van Doren Stern. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 383 pages. Publisher: W.W. Norton& Company; 1969) The story of man’s origins. Of his entrance into the European scene some 700,000 years ago, of the long period between utter savagery and the beginnings of civilization, is one of the most fascinating in the drama-filled epic of mankind. The fact that men who were very much like us lived 20,000 or 30,000 years ago was not even suspected until fairly recent times. As a result, many books of history have ignored the thousands of years of cultural development that took place before what we call civilization began. Yet these early people made tools, ... morepaintings, drawings and sculptures, and so have left us a fascinating record of their own evolution during the long span of time before writing was invented and prehistory became history. This book is essentially chapter one in the biography of Western man. It deals with mankind’s childhood years when he was learning to improve his lot. When he was preparing for the role that was to make him dominant among all the creatures that contest for the right to inhabit the earth. All who are interested in history, art, literature or science will find here a key to understanding the foundations of our modern world. There more than three hundred illustrations and maps are particularly important because prehistoric men could not write. They were the silent people, and only objects remain as evidence of their existence. Philip Van Doren Stern writes in a simple, straightforward language directed to the non-specialist. He has based his account on field reports, scientific journals, technical books, and personal research, with special emphasis on the most recent sources available. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. Lightly read hardcover with dustjacket(in mylar sleeve) W. W. Norton(1969) 383 pages.

Prehistoric Stone Age Nordic Neolithic Flint Hand Axe - 3800 BC
A fine ancient Scandinavian Neolithic flint hand axe. Dating to 3800– 2200 BC. Through looking at this ancient hand axe we can appreciate why flint working is regarded as an art form. Not simply a technology. There is something captivating about this object, whether it is the pattern of the percussion marks, or the way the light dances off the surface and interacts with the changing caramel colours of the underlying flint, it is more than a typical Neolithic axe. For the man or woman who crafted this axe. Life was a struggle, a constant battle against the elements. Seasonal migration would have been a constant feature of their life, moving between settlements hunting and fishing on the coast, whilst making occasional trips inland to hunt for forest animals and to engage in exchange with farming communities in the interior. However, there ... moreis a sense of creativity that runs throughout the artefact, from the attractive caramel hue of the stone to the pleasing form, we can appreciate these aspects just as they did, giving us an almost sacred sense of shared humanity with this man or woman from such a distant, remote time. Length: 7 inches. Condition: Very good. Unrestored. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Lars Otto Johan Holst(1863-1936) A veterinary surgeon who was active in Ronneby, southern Sweden from around 1887. Mr. Holst took a strong interest in the prehistory of ancient Scandinavia and he obsessively acquired throughout his career, forming one of the most magnificent collections of early Stone Age artefacts. He obtained these objects from around Ronneby, partly through gathering himself, and partly as payment for work done in his service as a vet between 1887- 1929. Please note that the new purchaser will be provided with a copy of two photographs showing Mr. Holst in his office and his collection mounted on the wall. Prehistoric Nordic Neolithic Stone Battle Axe - 2600 BC
A very fine ancient Scandinavian Neolithic stone battle-axe. Dating to 2600– 2350 BC. A broad. Powerful implement, perforated in the centre to take a wooden handle, this stone axe is more than just a crushing weapon, it is symbolic of an age where the culture of the warrior was spreading across northern Europe. Indeed it is sometimes referred to as “The Age of the Crushed Skulls”. Yet the form of this axe is perfectly symmetrical and the longer one holds it the more one can appreciate the small details in craftsmanship that define the exceptional from the ordinary. On close inspection the top of the axe can be distinguished from the bottom by a very slight bevel. Whilst the two sides are rounded and pleasing to the touch, meeting perfectly in the centre to form an equally symmetrical, slightly curved edge. This piece truly reflects the art ... moreas well as the technology of Neolithic Scandinavia. Often found alongside distinctive beakers used for the consumption of beer and mead. We can get a sense of the society that created this piece. The beaker and the battle-axe together are redolent with meaning, suggesting a culture that valued the strength and authority of the individual, but also feasting and hospitality. In many ways the Neolithic seems so distant and inaccessible. Indeed we cannot know the name of the individual who owned this piece, but with this powerful object we can at least get a sense of the world he inhabited. For a slightly larger but inferior example. Length: 5 ½ inches. Condition: Excellent. Unrestored. Prehistoric Nordic Scandinavian Neolithic Stone Axe - 4000 BC
An ancient Scandinavian Neolithic stone axe. Originally from a late 19th century collection and dating to 4000– 2000 BC. Worked from a fine dark green stone. We can see how this axe was carefully polished to achieve a pleasing finish on the blade end, but it remains rough and worn around the area that would originally have been woven in cord and attached to a wooden handle. The Neolithic Scandinavians were a tough people. Who clung resolutely to the use of stone tools even as their neighbours adopted metalworking. This evocative artefact; broad, hardy and strong, has more than a hint of the society that produced it. Please note. There are many forgeries of this type of Neolithic axe currently on the market, and it is extremely rare to encounter a stone axe which comes with such a reassuringly old and firm provenance. Length: 4 ⅞ inches. Condition: ... moreVery good. Unrestored. Neolithic Stone Hand Tool, Prehistoric, Est. 7,000 B.C.
Prehistoric stone grinding tool is approx. 4" long and weighs nearly 2 pounds. It was collected by my great uncle while prospecting in the old west in the 1920's. He passed it on to me after his death at age 92. I stored it for another 20 years. Age estimate is based on associated native American artifacts that were sold to an authority on the subject. Artifacts this age do not come up very often. Get this while it's available. It is the last piece of its kind in my collection. Was told that this dates from the early Archaic making it about 9.000 years old. I mistakenly listed it as much older when I first posted this. I am no expert on such matters and leave it to you to decide the true value of this item. Any input from the eBay community is welcome and I will post correspondence that pertains to any item that I list.

Prehistoric Neolithic Paleolithic Stone Hand Axe Handaxe Africa African
This listing is for an authentic Prehistoric African Paleolithic Hand Axe. I acquired this ancient hand axe at the Gem& Mineral show a few years ago. The dealer specialized in African archaeological artifacts and informed me it was African and from the Paleolithic period, I wish I was able to get more info but he was short on time as the Gem show was closing up as it was the last day. He had an assortment of hand axes and I hand picked the best one in his collection, I've had this for a few years, it's a very nice piece, very heavy with a smooth surface. Thank you for watching! This item is heavy but I'm offering free USA shipping. I do not have international listed. Please contact me if you are international and I will see the individual rates for your country thank you.
Prehistoric Stone Age Danish Neolithic Type III Flint Dagger - 1900 BC
An ancient Danish Neolithic flint“type III” dagger. Dating to 1900-1700 BC. Flint daggers such as this represent the pinnacle of prehistoric flintworking. Pressure flaked. The short handle widening slightly at the base of the blade, which then tapers to a point. The handle is square in cross-section, unique among flintknapping cultures anywhere in the world. Worked from a fine caramel coloured flint, the precision of design is truly overwhelming. As the societies of prehistoric Europe began to adopt metalworking. The ancient Scandinavians continued in their use of flint, delighting in the art of this old technology. This precious dagger mimics the form of elite bronze weapons that were circulating in Europe at the time. It is beautifully poetic, mirroring the technology that would ultimately supplant it and providing one final, beautiful ... moreflourish of the European flint industry. Length: 6 3/4 inches. Condition: Excellent. Unrestored. Interestingly, the relative lack of width of the blade in comparison to other examples suggests this piece was re-sharpened on numerous occasions in ancient times before being deposited/lost. The new purchaser will also be provided with a colour image of the original board. Where this artefact is clearly identifiable.
