Ancient Neolithic Greek Stone Votive Axe Head. Gift to Gods c. 5000 BC--2000 BC!
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts. Antiques& Fine Collectables Neolithic Greek Stone Axe or Celt Votive or Oracle Gift to the Gods c. 5000 BC to 2000 BC Original. Authentic, and Extremely RARE! This neolithic Greek axe head is believed to a sacrificial or votive item given as an offering to the Gods of ancient Greece. It is a museum quality example of an ancient Greek sacrificial piece that would have been used as an offering to the Gods at an oracle or temple. It may have also been a ritual tomb object that would be offered to the Gods. This 100% original and authentic small axe(also called a celt) dates to the early Greek or Macedonian period. Circa 5000-2000 BC and was unearthed in Greece. It is museum quality and similar neolithic stone axes can be found at the Metropolitan Museum(MET) in New York City. REF: http:metmuseum.org/Collections/search-the-collections/248462?rpp=20&pg=1&ao=on&ft=*deptids=13&what=Celts&pos=6} ... moreThis axe is made of a hard. Black stone that I believe is granite. It has been polished smooth by an ancient craftsman. It measures approximately 2.56" long x 1.58" tall x.77" thick(65 mm x 40 mm x 20 mm) and weighs just 2.8 oz. or 80 grams. In ancient Greece. The practice of dedicating objects to deities was common. It appears to have been a natural outcome of gratitude for the benefits received by a person who asked for a god’s assistance. The dedicated objects could be large or small. Depending upon the nature of the request. For example. The Nine Archons of Athens took an oath upon entering the office that they would dedicate a gold statue at Delphi that was equal in size to them if they transgressed the laws. Gold. Jewels, statutes, silver, bronze, stone offerings or even a small as a piece of terracotta pottery could be offered to the gods. Archeologists believe that the ancient Greeks thought the gods would be more likely to grant their wish or request if the applicant for their benefits promised something of value in return—an offering. The Romans had

Antique Ancient Neolithic Eastern European Stone Votive Female Figurine
Antique(possibly ancient) small votive statue You are bidding on what I believe to be an antique and possibly ancient votive statue of a slightly exaggerated female. This statue has some extremely interesting features and has some similar aspects to Steatopygous female figures. ca 4500–4000 b.c) but I have no way to prove or disprove its age or culture- all I can say is they are very attractive and obviously hand carved. The stone(likely marble) measures 2.075" tall and weighs 1.60 ounces and has a hole drilled in one knee where a display post once was. Shipping is a flat $8 via USPS
