It is roughly triangular in shape with a wide chopping blade. There is a small area of cortex near the butt, this area fits comfortably in the palm there is also a flat area for the thumb. This quartzite tools faces are almond shaped. The profile from the front and rear are triangular, the base notably convexed and the sides are straight, the butt is flat. This tool has the appearence of having been smoothed/polished all over. I don't think it has worn as the sides are still reasonably pronouced. This tool is in very good condition with nice detail and patination. It would make a nice addition to any collection. This axe has been made in an oval form with straight sides. The base is smooth and slightly convexed. The butt and one side has been worked to accommodate the fingers and thumb. It looks and feels as though it was also used as a right handed scraper. This tool is ever so slightly rolled.However it still displays good working detail,it is in good condition with nice patination. It would make a great addition to any collection. Small Acheulian Biface/Handaxe with Side Scraper. Found Nr Swanscombe, Kent a667 For sale; from my personal fieldwalking collection. Is a small, superbly detailed Acheulian biface/handaxe. This tool has been from a from a flint nodule. It is triangular in plan and worked to form a point and side scraping edge. The dorsal side is mostly worked. There is a small area at the distal end that retains some cortex. The ventral side is flat and smooth where it has been detached from the main nodule. This is a very nicely worked and detailed tool. It is in very condition with clear working detail and great patination, far better in the hand than the photo. Made by Homo heidelbergensis Dating approx 350.000-200,000 years Found Norththfleet. It is oval in plan with a worked small distal point. This is a very nicely worked and detailed tool. This tool has been made on a thick flint flake and has been bifacially worked. There is a very small cortical area remaining on the proximal end for the thumb. The axe is triangular in plan and made with a well defined point. This tool is in superb condition. It has nice detailed working with wonderful patination. Far better in the hand than the photos. Is this superb early Acheulian lanceolate biface/handaxe. This finely made biface has been made on a flint core using a hard hammer technique. The axe is of an elongated triangular plan with a thick. Slightly angled rounded butt. The sides of the axe are straight with an elongated distal point. This tool is in superb condition. It has a nice antique bronze colour patination. Large Mousterian Disc Biface/Handaxe.Found Nr Swanscombe,Kent, M101 For sale; from my personal fieldwalking collection. Is a large and Neanderthal made Mousterian disc biface. This biface has been made on a thick marbled flint core. It is circular in plan with thick straight sides that are partially cortical for grasping. It has been made with a small robust point. This tool is in superb condition with nice even patination. Far better in the hand than the photos. Found Southfleet. Kent, near Swanscombe. Approx date 100.000-40,000 years. Length: 15 cm Width: 12 cm Thickness: 4.5 cm Weight: 1.023 grams The Mousterian period in Europe dated to around 200.000- 100,000 years ago, it was not until around 100,000 years ago that it made it's appearance in Britain, this was probably due to the harsh climate at that time. The Mousterian stone tool ... moreindustry was based on the production of flakes that were used either as sharp points. Side scrapers, notches, denticulated and the thin flat based hand axes. The levallois technique and handaxes continued during the middle Palaeolithic as did the production of various scrapers and bifaces similar to those of the Acheulian tradition. This tools is part of my own personal collection that I have been fortunate enough to have found over the years. All my tools were found whilst field walking in the Northfleet and Southfleet area of Kent. The tool has been made from a light coloured marbled flint flake. It is bifacially worked and of an elongated triangular in plan with a wedged side profile. The dorsal side has a central ridge that continues to the distal extremity. There is a small area at the distal end that remains cortical. The sides of the axe are straight and lightly retouched. The ventral side is smooth and very slightly convex. This tool is in superb condition. It has fine detailed working with wonderful patination. Far better in the hand than the photos.
