Early 1900's upright Victorian wood piano-by Sterling Company Derby Conn. The co was started by Charles Sterling in 1866 and known for the making of high quality instruments. This piano has a wonderful Roman/Greek pillar design. I am listing this for a friend who is moving and must sell it(was her Grandmothers)it is one of the last pieces of furniture in the house and the lighting is not so good for the pics. Body and structure of the unit is sound-but needs tuning-polishing. Beautiful old piano that would be amazing if fully restored. Included in this lot is a set of three maps of Britain from the late 1700s or early 1800s. I have had them in my collection for many years and do not have the exact provedence on them. Antique Architectural Soapstone Carving Pillar Column Greek Greco Roman Rome Art
Not sure exactly what this is. But I love it. It appears to be a soapstone relief carving of a pillar or column top. I know there are technological names for these column parts, but I am unfortunately ignorant of them. It may even be some kind of wax molding in a wax that I am unfamiliar with, but I am a stonemason and pretty sure it is soapstone. I can scratch it with my fingernail, but barely and only with a great application of force. Judging by the age of the wooden encasement and the type of metal hardware used to hold it together, I am assuming it is quite old, possibly 19th Century, and by the amount of artistry and effort expended in the relief, that it a representation of a famous or important piece of architecture, possibly Greek or Roman. Most likely from the Grand Tour Era This would have been a souvenir bought while rich& power toured the 7 wonders of the ancient world. I cannot explain the dirt hardened around the top and bottom. Antique 1916 Classroom Map Ancient Italy Growth of Roman Power 500-265 BC
REFERENCE MAP OF ANCIENT ITALY GROWTH OF ROMAN POWER FROM 500 B.C. TO 265 B.C. This fantastic classroom map is really something special. Printed in 1916 by Denoyer-Geppert Co. in Chicago. IL. it is the oldest map in my collection. Mounted on a steel and hardwood spring-loaded roller frame, it is ready for hanging. The map is beginning to separate from the hardwood bar on either side(see photos) and the paper and fabric backing are yellowed and a bit brittle with age, but it is nearly a century old. The colours are soft pastels that would match any decor and it has great patina. Antique Roman Child Armor and Helmet
Up for auction here is a child's armor chest piece and helmet. I'm quite sure this falls under reproduction. Child toy set, etc. but the truth is, I know very little about these pieces. The original shoulder strap and belt strap are gone and replaced with new leather. That I know. Everything else looks original. The helmet spike and plate emblem match and look original to the set as well. The Chest Piece is 12" tall. 10" wide, and 8 1/2" deep. The helmet is 8 3/4" tall. 6 1/2" wide, and 9" long. Offered for sale is an early 1900s tea strainer made in Europe. Marked twice on the back 800, for the amount of silver present in the piece. The handle of the strainer is a Roman Legion Eagle. With spread wings. The letters SPQR are on the front. And ROMA is on the reverse. All around the bowl of the strainer(which is gold washed) is a foliate design. On the opposite side of the eagle. antique lion griffin head bussle roman chair 6 heads
up for auction is a nice antique roman type bussle chair. it has 6 heads that are lion or griffin and claw feet in the front. i am not sure of what type wood it is made of. it almost looks like mahogany. But i think it is birch or fruitwood. i paid about 500 for this chair quite some time ago and i just had it recently recovered. so the starting price reflects pretty much what i have in it. it is a neat chair with three large heads on the top, the middle one recessed with the curvature of the chair. the top is carved scalloped above the heads, the arm tops are scalloped above the heads at the front of the arm rests. it also has a head in the bottom brace of the seat. nice claw feet with casters. the chair is in near mint condition, a few little bumps here and there, but nothing noteworthy. it is 38 inches tall, 27 wide, the seat is 18 deep, ... moreand it is about 18 inches from floor to the top of the seat. quite a large chair. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyers expense. i can help arrange for shipment if that would be helpful to anyone. good luck.

In fact the extent of the wear is significant enough that it suggests that the ring might have been worn during the lifetime of more than one owner. Perhaps it was a family heirloom handed down between generations. Though the ring was not originally produced to hold a gemstone. The large, flat bezel seemed to invite a gemstone. So we mounted a large, natural, antique, handcrafted jade semi-precious gemstone. Jade was extremely valuable in ancient China, there are records of an entire city being traded for a carved ornamental jade piece.
