CLASSIFICATION: Earthenware Jar/Vase. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Ancient China. Zhou Dynasty. Spring and Autumn Period(770 to 476 B.C. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 140 millimeters(5 5/8 inches) at bowl; 94 millimeters(3 3/4 inches) at top lip. Height: 98 millimeters(3 7/8 inches) CONDITION: Very good. Complete and unrepaired. Little blemishes consistent with wear and then burial since ancient times. A few small rim chips, a couple of tiny hairline cracks. The typical blemishes of hand production(warts and dimples, zits and pits) DETAIL: A complete. Unrepaired medium sized impressed earthenware jar seemingly attributable to the middle of the first millennium B.C. The term“impressed” means that a design was impressed into the still wet vessel before it was fired. More often than not this involved rolling the vase over a fibre mat, or pressing a piece of mat into the vessel, impressing a design into the still-wet clay. It is a good-sized piece, the size of a small melon. What’s really remarkable is that despite its age, it is entirely complete. There is of course a collection of small rim chips, virtually obligatory with a ceramic vessel this old. And from those chips two very slight hairline cracks have evolved, as can be seen in the images here. However considering the age of the vessel, these are rather minor(and entirely customary and acceptable) blemishes. As well there is an assortment of tiny scuffs and abrasions which one would expect with an earthenware household utensil which was used and then buried. Considering that the typical such specimen is recovered shattered into shards, this specimen is truly in remarkable condition. Although it is probable that this specimen is much older. It is also possible that this piece might be a revivalist imitative

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Outside Height: 82 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) Outside Diameter: 131 millimeters(5 1/4 inches) Inside Height: 35 millimeters(1 3/8 inches) Inside Diameter: 114 millimeters(4 5/8 inches) Height: Inside: 35 millimeters(1 3/8 inch) Lid: 41 millimeters(1 2/3 inches) Base: 46 millimeters(1 7/8 inches) CONDITION: Very good. Entirely intact. A little wear consistent with any household item which is over a century in age. A few minute blemishes typical of handcrafted ancient porcelain of the era– almost indiscernible. Not flawless, but certainly in an excellent state of preservation. DETAIL: A nicely preserved very cute little cosmetic case or jewelry box done in the traditional blue and white porcelain so wonderfully characteristic of late Ming/early Qing Dynasty artwork. The glaze is entirely intact. Vibrant cobalt blue, and the condition of the case is exceptionally good. There are of course a few minor scuffs, marks, dings, etc. As well there are the little blemishes so typical of handcrafted porcelain of the Qing and Ming Dynasties; warts, dimples, pimples and pits; but hardly noticeable except with critical scrutiny. All of the preceding almost unnoticeable and very minor, we’re just playing critic here in the interest of full disclosure. The depiction on the outside on the top of the lid is of three men in an idyllic park setting This is as close to as good as one can reasonably expect of a porcelain box somewhere between one and two centuries old. While it’s not perfect. It is about as close to it as you will ordinarily find of an authentic porcelain box like this, and there are no repairs. Of course realist

This particular style was produced using a black glaze, high in iron oxides. In the kiln the iron would oftentimes come to the surface of the glaze, creating brown/rust-colored“oil spots” or streaky“hare’s fur” patterns on the otherwise black glaze. The style became extremely popular in ancient China, especially with Japanese Monks to whom the Chinese exported this unique and rare product. Tea bowls were the most common produce of this technique. This particular bowl is a variation of this style, where rather than a large number of spots or drips, instead larger areas of high iron glaze were used to produce these large rust-colored streaks in the otherwise black-predominated glaze. Both the tea bowls, as well as larger sized bowls such as this are relatively rare. Both styles of tea bowls as well(oil spot” and“hare’s fur” are a very sought after variation of Song

What lapis lazuli, carnelian, and turquoise was to the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and Mesopotamia, including the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, Sumerians, and Babylonians; jade was to the ancient Chinese. It was the gemstone of gemstones, it’s name synonymous with“gold” in other languages. Good as gold” the golden age” such expressions would have used the word“yu” for jade, rather than the word gold. This pendant seems to have two“faces” to it. With the point(the narrow end) on the bottom it seems to be a stylized face. But with the point at the top, as it seemingly would have intended to be worn, it seems to depict two figures, back to back, sitting beneath a tree. Excellent Almond Shaped Quartzite Handaxe Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 500.000 BC
Excellent Almond Shaped Quartzite Handaxe Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 500.000 BC Description Type: almond shaped handaxe on flake. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Lower Palaeolithic. Lower Acheulian. Dating: archaeological research in Western Europe proved that the European continent has been conquested as early as 1.3 to 1,1 Mio years(finds of Atapuerca/ Spain) Early Pleistocene. The assignment of the oldest human finds at Atapuerca to a particular early human species as Homo erectus or Homo antecessor is still controversial. As controversially discussed is the earliest date of permanent colonization of Europe, and good dating of the high gravel terraces of southern French rivers is still lacking. So we suggest an estimated time frame of approx. 800.000 to 400.000 BC. Description: Size: length 13.1 cm, width 7,3 cm, thickness 3,0 cm, weight ... more340 grams, Shape. Retouch: an excellent very thin handaxe which looks at first glance as if it was made on tabular raw-material. But the cortical area at the butt proves that it is made on flake struck from a pebble. Both faces are retouched: the one shown first presents broad facial retouch as well as finer lateral retouch at the edges. The other face has a large flat area in the center which is not cortex, but nonetheless the natural surface of the pebble. Finer edge flaking is made at the edges, the tip and the butt. Raw-material: a flake out of gray quartzite. The most common raw-material on the Garonne terraces, Preservation: very well. The surface is somewhat weathered. But flake scars are well defined. No modern damages as far as can be seen, Additional Information. Literature: The pebble tools found on the high gravel terraces of the Garonne. Tarn and Aveyron river are among the earliest tools found in Europe. Lit: A. Tavoso, Le Paléolithique supérieur et moyen du Haut-Languedoc, Paris 1978. Origin. Site: high gravel terrace of the Garonne. South of Toulouse, southern France. We have been listing more interesting paleolithic artifacts. Please have a look! Do y

RARE Stone Age Acheulean Handaxe Mauritania (1,000,000 - 500,000 BC) HAND AXE
Offered here is a rather large size Acheulean Hand axe from Mauritania. Measures 6 inches or 15cm long 4 inches or 10cm wide 1 1/4 inch or 3 cm thick. WEIGHS 70 GRAMS. By its style and design. This specimen probably dates anywhere from 1,000,000 BC to 500,000 BC. This particular axe is rather large and well formed for the period. The narrow point suggests it may have been used for digging. Such hand axes were not just the product of idle activity but were often manufactured in locations specifically used for this purpose where raw materials were found. Work areas have been found where several individuals had sat and worked together. Each sitting position is surrounded by a semicircle of raw materials. Partially completed cores, and flakes from the finished tools THANKS FOR LOOKING. NR.
