The style became extremely popular in ancient China, especially with Japanese Monks to whom the Chinese exported this unique and rare product. Tea bowls were the most common produce of this technique. This particular bowl is a variation of this style, where rather than a large number of spots or drips, instead larger areas of high iron glaze were used to produce these large rust-colored streaks in the otherwise black-predominated glaze. What lapis lazuli, carnelian, and turquoise was to the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and Mesopotamia, including the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, Sumerians, and Babylonians; jade was to the ancient Chinese. It was the gemstone of gemstones, it’s name synonymous with“gold” in other languages. Good as gold” the golden age” such expressions would have used the word“yu” for jade, rather than the word gold. This pendant seems to have two“faces” to it. With the point(the narrow end) on the bottom it seems to be a stylized face. But with the point at the top, as it seemingly would have intended to be worn, it seems to depict two figures, back to back, sitting beneath a tree. It might be a reference to the male and female personification of“Yin and Yang” The symbolism of Yin-Yang, also known as“Tai-Chi” refers to the I-Ching concept of the cycles of life, the balance between them, sometimes equated with the cyclical relatio

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 140 millimeters(5 5/8 inches) at bowl; 94 millimeters(3 3/4 inches) at top lip. Height: 98 millimeters(3 7/8 inches) CONDITION: Very good. Complete and unrepaired. Little blemishes consistent with wear and then burial since ancient times. A few small rim chips, a couple of tiny hairline cracks. The typical blemishes of hand production(warts and dimples, zits and pits) DETAIL: A complete. Unrepaired medium sized impressed earthenware jar seemingly attributable to the middle of the first millennium B.C. The term“impressed” means that a design was impressed into the still wet vessel before it was fired. More often than not this involved rolling the vase over a fibre mat, or pressing a piece of mat into the vessel, impressing a design into the still-wet clay. It is a good-sized piece, the size of a small melon. What’s really remarkable is that despite its age, it is entirely complete. There is of course a collection of small rim chips, virtually obligatory with a ceramic vessel this old. And from those chips two very slight hairline cracks have evolved, as can be seen in the images here. However considering the age of the vessel, these are rather minor(and entirely customary and acceptable) blemishes. As well there is an assortment of tiny scuffs and abrasions which one would expect with an earthenware household utensil which was used and then buried. Considering that the typical such specimen is recovered shattered into shards, this specimen is truly in remarkable condition. Although it is probable that this specimen is much older. It is also possible that this piece might be a revivalist imitative

Neolithic Danish stone age thick necked axe, ca. 2000-1500 BC
Neolithic Danish thick necked axe. Ca. 2000-1500 BC Weight: 390 grams. Len gth: 15 cm. Width: 5 cm, height: 2.5 cm Th ese thick necked axes came into use in the single grave period and up to the beaker culture and dagger time(dolktid) This axe. Polished on the front and back, unpolished on the sides, has a real marble-like feel about it. It has lovely patina. Super high gloss. It has damage on the cutting edge. But not enough to detract from the beauty of the piece. This is a working axe. So of course work-re lated scars occur. T o my mind these scars are perfectly respectable. But of course that is a matter of taste. This axe was found by my husband in Halk(south-east Jutland. Denmark) on a rainy day in December.

Ancient Prehistoric Stone Age Neolithic Flint Chert Danish Axe - 2000 BC
A beautiful neolithic polished stone axe. Dating to approximately 2000 B.C. and found in Scandinavia. This beautiful stone tool was made from a large piece of flint. Broken down and then chipped into form, remnants of attractive surface flaking remain in areas of the axe which are not so highly polished. Axes like this would have been attached to a sturdy wooden handle and used for chopping up trees. This tool has been ground on a larger. Flat stone and polished, a task which would have taken many hours of hard labour and care to complete and giving it an attractive smooth finish. This fascinating early flint implement. Dates to the north-west European Neolithic period(approx 4000-2000 B.C. This period saw the dawn of civilization, when Early man was leaving the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. ... moreThis transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. Mesolithic neolithic Danish core axe/adze, concave cutting edge ca. 3000-2000 BC
Mesolithic/neolithic Danish core axe/adze with a concave cutting edge from the late Ertebølle/early Beaker culture. Ca. 3000-2000 BC Weight: 197 grams. Length: 10.5 cm. Width: 5 cm These core axes come in a variety of forms. I haven't seen many of this type. This axe was found on the isle of Mors, north-west Jutland. It is from an old collection.

Neolithic Danish madkniv, type B, Single grave, 2000-1500 BC
Neolithic Danish food knife(madkniv) Single grave culture, ca. 2000-1500 BC Weight: 51 grams. Length: 10.25 cm. Width: 3 cm These knives/daggers from the single grave culture are always round ended. This is a classic example and it is undamaged. It has a beautiful golden brown patina. Due to it being found in a peat bog in Sjælland. This madkniv is from an old collection dating back to the 1840's. There is a sticker on it, but the text has worn too much to read.
Neolithic Danish thick necked axe, Single grave, V-formed type, ca. 2000-1500 BC
Neolithic Danish thick necked axe. Single grave culture, V-formed type, ca. 2000-1500 BC Weight: 79 grams. Length: 12.25 cm. Width: 5.50 cm, height: 2.75 cm These V-formed type axes are from the late Single grave period. This is a beautiful example. The lovely dark brown colour often occurs in axes found in the Vildemose area. This axe has a wonderful patina and shows a really advanced knapping technique. I.e. the zigzag edge. This is a working axe and it has been retouched in ancient times, but that takes nothing from the beauty of the piece. a1.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*3Ad%60%3Ea1%3E-13f9374ce75-0xfb-

ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts. Antiques& Fine Collectables Neolithic Greek Stone Axe or Celt Votive or Oracle Gift to the Gods c. 5000 BC to 2000 BC Original. Authentic, and Extremely RARE! This neolithic Greek axe head is believed to a sacrificial or votive item given as an offering to the Gods of ancient Greece. It is a museum quality example of an ancient Greek sacrificial piece that would have been used as an offering to the Gods at an oracle or temple. It may have also been a ritual tomb object that would be offered to the Gods. This 100% original and authentic small axe(also called a celt) dates to the early Greek or Macedonian period. Circa 5000-2000 BC and was unearthed in Greece. It is museum quality and similar neolithic stone axes can be found at the Metropolitan Museum(MET) in New York City. It has been polished smooth by an ancient craftsman. It measures approximately 2.56" long x 1.58" tall x.77" thick(65 mm x 40 mm x 20 mm) and weighs just 2.8 oz. or 80 grams. In ancient Greece. The practice of dedicating objects to deities was common. It appears to have been a natural outcome of gratitude for the benefits received by a person who asked for a god’s assistance. The dedicated objects could be large or small. Depending upon the nature of the request. For example. The Nine Archons of Athens took an oath upon entering the office that they would dedicate a gold statue at Delphi that was equal in size to them if they transgressed the laws. Gold. Jewels, statutes, silver, bronze, stone offerings or even a small as a piece of terracotta pottery could be offered to the gods. Archeologists believe that the ancient Greeks thought the gods would be more likely to grant their wish or request if the applicant for their benefits promised something of value in return—an offering. The Romans had
Ancient Nordic Stone Age Neolithic Flint Sickle Blade - 2000 BC
A particularly beautiful. Rare and well provenanced Neolithic sickle blade, uncovered in Denmark and dating to approximately 2000 B.C. As farming tools, flint sickles are perhaps the most emblematic of all Neolithic artefacts, representing the revolutionary transition of human society from a lifestyle of hunting and gathering to one of agriculture and settlement. Of plano-convex outline. Unpolished dark brown flint. Chip carved with meticulous care and precision, this remarkable tool was made from a large piece of flint, broken down and then worked into its striking form. With a beautiful gloss, percussion marks are still visible on the surface where the stone has been worked with a bone or antler tine. The use of stone tools persisted in Scandinavia for far longer than the majority of Europe. As such. The societies of the late Nordic Neolithic ... moreproduced some of the most technically complex flint artefacts in the world. Due to their complexity, the makers of these pieces were likely to have been specialists who participated only in the production of flint tools and weapons. Produced by an individual with a true mastery of their craft. This piece is a beautiful symbol of the final flourish of the European flint working industry. Length: 4 1/2 inches. Condition: Excellent. Old collection label still attached. Provenance: An extremely well provenanced piece. From the collection of James Curle(1862-1944) of Melrose, Scotland, and thence by descent. Although a lawyer by profession, Curle was an accomplished amateur archaeologist and his name remains one of the most famous in the field of Romano-British Archaeology, having excavated and published extensively in the early 1900's. From 1888-1903 Curle acquired the most magnificent collection of Nordic antiquities outside Scandinavia, eventually selling most of his pieces to the British Museum in 1921. The Curle collection in the British Museum has been the subject of numerous publications and remains an important reference point for scholars of prehistoric Nordic arti

CHINESE HAN DYNASTY VASE/BOWL - ABOUT 2000 BC
From an old collection comes this Chinese grey clay earthenware vase/bowl with lightly applied light glaze. It is just under 4 inches tall and is 5.5 inches in diameter. It is in very nice condition for an excavated piece. The photos are a significant part of the description. I am selling pieces from an old collection. And I am definitely not an expert in ancient Chinese pottery. All indications are that this vessel is of Chinese Han Dynasty origin- roughly 2000 years old. I understand that much of the ancient and antique Chinese ceramics available today are imitative(a nice word for fake) of earlier periods. The production of"revival" or"imitative" ceramics has been going on in China for hundreds of years to satisfy popular demand. I understand that the only way to be assured that a piece is authentic is an expensive($500- ... more$800) thermoluminescence test by a recognized laboratory. We are going to open this auction with a low opening bid and let the buyers determine the final price. Whether this vessel is a hundred year old antique or a several thousand year old antiquity. It is a beautiful example wth value. Watch for more pieces from this collection. Buyer pays for shipping and applicable Virginia sales tax
Danish Quartzite Stone Pestle - Neolithic Period 2000 BC - Falster, Denmark
You are bidding on a beautiful Danish Artifact described by Mr. Mikkel Pedersen(Senatus Consulto.
