Cincinnati Arts & Crafts Furniture -Shop of the Crafters Oscar Onken Mission
Arts and Crafts Furniture. Shop of the Crafters” Published by Turn of the Century Editions in 1983. DISCUSSION: Cincinnati was an important center of the American Arts and Crafts Movement. Reproduced here is the entire 1906 catalog of the Oscar Onken Company showing sophisticated furniture in the“mission” style. Some pieces featuring inlay. Shop of the Crafters furniture was promoted vigorously and consequently was widely distributed throughout the United States. A central European influence can be detected in some of the pieces, particularly when viewed in the context of the catalog’s illustrated Viennese room settings of the period. This book shows a rich variety of designs as an alternative to the pure rectilinear forms often seen in other Arts and Crafts mission furniture. Sixteen pages of additional Onondaga Shops drawings and some photos of pieces in private collections have been added. Quaint’ Furniture in Arts and Crafts” Edited by Stephen Gray. Published by Turn of the Century Editions in 1988. DISCUSSION: Collected in this book are edited versions of four catalogs depicting furniture and metalwork of the Stickley Brothers Company of Grand Rapids. Michigan. This company began manufacturing furniture in 1892, and was soon a leader in manufacturing the extremely popular“mission” style of furniture. Stickley Brothers’ contributions can be seen in the sophisticated designs and sketches of room settings presented in the Arts and Crafts decorative style. Book: AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS FURNITURE - TOBEY MISSION FURNITURE COMPANY
The Tobey Furniture Company. Chicago, Illinois” By A. Patricia Bartinique& Peter A. Copeland. Published by Turn of the Century Editions in 2012. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Most Arts and Crafts enthusiasts know that the Tobey Furniture Company briefly marketed Gustav Stickley's so-called"New Furniture" for a few months beginning in the fall of 1900. That is all that most people ever hear about the Tobey Furniture Company. But there is much more to the story. The Tobey Furniture Company was in business for ninety-eight years. From 1856 to 1954. Tobey sold not only Gustav Stickley's"New Furniture" but also"mission" or Arts and Crafts funiture manufactured for Tobey by Leopold and John George Stickley, which Tobey sold under its"Russmore" trademark. Tobey also sold"mission" ... moreor Arts and Crafts furniture that it made in its own workshop, promoting it(as well as other styles of furniture) as"Tobey Hand-Made Furniture. The Tobey brothers, Charles and Frank, were leaders in the Chicago business community and in the national furniture industry. Tobey's general manager, George Clingman, for a time also the company's chief buyer and designer, was granted patents for his"mission" or Arts and Crafts furniture designs, including a patent for the iconic"Tobey Chair. This book provides not only an illustrated 38-page history of the Tobey Furniture Company, but also provides for the first time unabridged reprints of Tobey's 1900 New Furniture catalogue, Tobey's 1901 New Furniture in Weathered Oak catalogue, and Tobey's 1903 Russmore Furniture catalogue. Michigan was a furniture manufacturing center long before George and Albert Stickley moved there in 1891. The work of Gustav Stickley’s two younger brothers clearly shows his influence. The art, metalwork, pottery, textiles, and furniture of the Arts& Crafts Movement are enormously popular in todays antique market, and the designs are inspiring a whole new wave of creativity. Fabulous Foot Stool Mission Furniture Oak Leather Top Old Arts & Crafts Charming
This delightful stool was found at an estate sale. We tried to find a good place for it in our home. But the style is just not right so here's your chance. It is"mission oak" most likely from the arts& crafts period. It is approx.11-2/3" tall and the top is 18" x 12" Please note, the top has been recovered- it is leather in a soft brown and very supple. Nice shape, not damaged or stained. Overall very good condition, super graining and not damaged(very minimal wear to the feet, just what you'd expect. There is/was a label on the bottom, and we've tried our best to make it out. What we can read is"manufactured by Pair_burg,PA. Could very well be Pittsburgh, but just cannot say for sure. It would go well with any mission and/or arts and crafts furnishings, or as a'stand-alone' stool. Loads ... moreof charm. Thanks. ~b~ Thank you for your interest in our item. ANTIQUE ROYCROFT ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT MISSION FURNITURE in 1906
Catalog of Roycroft Furniture and other things” A facsimile reprint of the 1906 Roycroft Furniture catalog. Issued by Turn of the Century Editions in 1981. DISCUSSION: Roycroft furniture was not manufactured in large quantities. Nevertheless. It contributed significantly towards the growth of Arts and Crafts design in America. Furniture and other artifacts made by the Roycrofters at their community in East Aurora, New York, are easily identified by the incised orb and cross and/or“Roycroft” name. The 1906 catalog reprinted here depicts a substantial portion of the furniture designs produced under the forceful direction of Elbert Hubbard. The catalog also features some copper and wrought iron accessories. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 6”x8.5” 47 pages, black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. New condition.
