1930's - 1950's Simmons Metal High Boy Dresser with Mirror
This is a beautiful dresser! In one of the drawers is a partial emblem showing that it is a Simmons dresser. It came to me in need of some tender loving care. It had been painted white. But was scratched in several places. I sanded the paint on the exterior of the dresser down to the bare metal. Just that alone made it very beautiful. To protect it, I first put a coat of Penetrol to stop any and all erosion, and then put a top-coat of Polyurethane. It has all of the original hardware except for two small pieces on the mirror that I had to replace since one was missing. The metal caster wheels are original and roll smoothly. The dresser did come with some small dents, and the mirror has a small spot where the silvering has come off; however, it does not hinder the use of the mirror. It is 3' 9 1/2" tall(excluding the mirror) 2' ... more8" wide and 1' 5 1/2" deep. This vintage-industrial piece would be a very unique addition to your home or office, and would be a great conversation starter!

WOW! What a beautiful find! Up for your consideration is this wonderful Hi Boy chest that I purchased at an estate/consignment auction. It is around 66" tall. 36" wide and 19" deep. It has a beveled mirror and comes with original? key. The locks all work except the 2nd drawer from the bottom. The lock turns up but doesn't stay in place. This piece comes from The Spencer and Barnes Company, Chamber Suits and Chiffoniers, of Benton Harbor, Michigan. I believe it is all original except for some screws. The mirror has a piece of wood on the back that must be for added support. Please refer to pictures. Don't miss this rare opportunity to own a Spencer and Barnes piece of history. Beautiful example of waterfall style art deco dresser set. The finish is original. All parts as far as I can determine are original. The vanity dresser has added support on the back of the mirror itself and the ornate part of the vanity where the mirror rests. As you can see in photos 7& 8 the wooden supports are not very attractive. These can easily be replaced. I didn't bother because no one sees behind the dresser, but if you are planning to resell, it would be advantageous to replace the supports. It is quite possible that the supports are not really needed, and that they were added as a preventative measure. The mirror itself is in excellent condition. The high boy dresser is missing two very small pieces of wood- see photo 6. The top right edge of bottom drawer and the lower right edge of the second to bottom drawer. This is a beautiful. Antique, all-wood, hand-constructed, tiger oak 5-drawer tall-boy dresser. The dimensions without the mirror mounted are: 46 inches high x 40 inches wide x 18 1/2 inches deep. With the mirror the total height of the dresser is 68 1/2 inches. The drawers are dove-tailed and have beautiful original iron work. Being an antique. The drawers stick a bit, there's a light water mark on the top in the back and there's a spot of black paint, but it's nothing that can't be easily fixed(see photos) It has never been refinished.
