Condition: Used Location: Hyde Park, United States Beautiful. Heavily flaked quarter sawn oak sideboard in the manner of RJ Horner. Pics tell most of the story. Measurements are as follows: 84"W x ... more69"T X 24"D. Weight: approx. 150-200lbs. There are a couple of small trim pieces where the backsplash meets the base that are missing, a couple that are loose. The top section of the backsplash has seperated and a couple small pieces of carved trimwork are missing as a result(can be seen in the pics) There is a small a chip on the front left edge of the table surface. One of the locks is missing from one of the doors and there is a stain on the top that can be clearly seen in the photo. Im sure there are other bumps/bruises but nothing glaring. All that having been said, this piece is really stunning in person and all of the condition issues are fairly simple repairs. The flaws I mentioned are only noticed upon close scrutiny and have never been pointed out to me by anyone who has seen it in person. Original finish is in good shape, just as it appears in the photos. The color, in person, is probably somewhere between the lightest and darkest photos. The carving on this piece is AWESOME! The quartersawn grain is heavy and pronounced. Bought this piece and the matching server, which I will be listing soon) to restore but I am out of time/space. I feel I have a reasonable opening bid on this piece but if it does not sell, I will restore it and the price will go up considerably. Personally, im kinda getting burned out on the figurals and winged griffins that usually adorn pieces of this quality so its nice to see a great piece without that typical subject matter. Imported from the UK through Edinburgh, Scotland and decorated with carving across the top and down the side edges and celtic symbols on the doors as shown. This fabulous functional storage unit incorporates shelving on one side and open hanging closet space on the other, with a large clear dressing mirror on the inside of the door. This open cabinet space could easily be adapted with one of many storage or shelving systems now so readily available, if desired for individual purposes. I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately show and represent this large wardrobe, which stands 75 inches tall by 60 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. This is a rare completely legitimate 17th Century English piece of heavily carved furniture estate fresh to the market coming from a wonderful Maple Street Springfield. Massachusetts Mansion. This Hunt Board received an expert structual restoration in the late 19th Century entailing the installation of new back panels and new panels to the floor of cabinet. It is over 300 years old and we surmise that the original secondary panels were pine which simply deteroeated. It received the very finest attention and only a trained eye would note the replaced secondary panels. EVERYTHING else on this wonderful piece ... morehistory is completely original right down to the tear drop William& Mary brass pulls with ultra rare cotter pin fasteners. It has a two board pegged top, richly carved floral motif panels on both the right and left sides of the piece with carved right and left side cabinet doors divided by deeply carved center panel recessed into a Gothic arch. It has great original peg fasteners everywhere on the body of the cabinet. The front columns are executed with fascinating details and most notably it has a single plank wide board base stretcher shelf made from huge robust piece of 3" thick oak. It is approximately(English period furniture is never exact to American standard measurements) 56" long, 19" wide and 45" tall. We do apologize for these photographs being dark. Here is an absolutely delightful find. a set of six heavy carved oak chairs with shell. Leaves and other carvings including column front legs and rush bottom seats, imported through Edinburgh, Scotland and in a Henry II style, these most probably were manufactured there in Scotland or perhaps England in the early to mid-twentieth century. I have noted in my description of condition above that three of the rush bottom seats on this set is broken through, and simply replaced at present with a wood board underneath the seat cushion. I have taken this into account and am selling these chairs"as is" for a great price for someone looking to invest a little love into bringing them back to their full glory by replacing the seats. These side dining chairs stand 37 inches tall and measure 17 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back. The consignee is moving and felt they could part with just a few things and that makes this your lucky day! This lovely country French style sideboard was made especially for her grandfather when they lived in France in the 20's and 30's. Although she was told by someone it was cherry. I believe it to be golden oak. The piece is absolutely exquisite and has been in the same family for almost 100 years. Notice the wonderful hand carving along with the attention to detail in the shelf brackets. The closing mechanisms and the escutheons around the key holes. The piece is 57" high at the top of crown and 46" wide. The crown is 3 1/2" in height. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The Tray is one of the most incredible examples of earlier 1900s copper work I have personally seen. I am sure that I have seen a similar tray to this in a book. But this is the only example like this I have ever seen in person. I cannot see any markings on the tray, but I believe if researched the tray could be attributed to a certain maker. The estate said they were told the Tray was made by Gorham, but not being marked I cannot say for sure. I do know Gorham did commission some amazing copper examples at some of the smaller studios mainly in Chicago at the time some which were not marked, so it is well worth looking into. The Tray has the Most Amazing and Finely Detailed Horned Bull Head handles to either side, Truly Incredibly Quality. The hole tray itself is hand wrought and made of Thick and Solid Copper. The over all buffet measures 81" tall. The top section is 5' wide. 43.5" tall, 14.5" deep. It encompasses a beveled mirror and has a plate shelf on top. There is a large upper opening for a mirror but the mirror is missing. The lower shelf is supported by 2 carved corbels. It measures 4.25 inches wide. 82.75 inches tall and 9 inches deep. The firebox opening is 41.5 inches wide by 38.25 inches tall. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. An old footstool. With a carved Gothic panel top depicting the"Green Man" of English folklore. The panel looks quite a bit older than the legs. I suspect that the panel originally came from some other piece of furniture. And was converted into a footstool, perhaps some time in the 20th century? The top is three-quarters of an inch thick. And measures 14 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches Altogether a nice decorative piece. With a good traditional country theme. The edges of the top panel have clearly been scuffed and knocked quite a lot. Particularly along the edge which is the"bottom" of the picture- the long edge beneath the Green Man's chin. Condition: Good condition. 17TH CARVED ORIGINAL PAINTED OAK WOOD PILLAR POST PANEL SHIP CARVING ANTIQUE 22 INCHES TALL 33cm 7 INCHED DIAMETER 17cm they weigh about 14 Lbs each. A PAIR OF CARVED OAK PILLARS FROM AN OLD GALLION OR MERCHANT VESSEL. Found in a corner of stores in Portsmouth allong with other sail ship relicks. The wood is stable and still retains structural strength. But is flakey in some places, showing in the pictures as much lighter colour. the dark turmite and decay areas at the ends are hard and strong. I believe all the styling and structure date these pillars at c.1620- 1700. The paint looks certainly to original. Large cracks which have appered maybe a century ago have been filled. Newer. Not antique, oak wood wall clock cabinet case only. The case is in very good condition and appears to be new. The top crown and door has carving. The bottom glass of the single door is machine cut with geometric lines as pictured. There are glass panels on each side of the case. The wall clock measures about 18 1/2" long x 7 3/4" wide x 4 1/2" The clcok movement hole is about 5 1/2" and the depth from the back board to the top of the wood circle mount is 3" The inside of the case is about 14" long x 6 1/2" wide. An exquisite 19th century oak carved corbel of a religious figure. Possibly Christ. The detail is truly excellent and beautifully carved in deep relief. The religious figure holds in his left hand a cross on top of the globe. Whilst his right is bent upward towards his heart. He wears a long robe. From which his foot is revealed. Beneath the figure sits deeply carved fruits. This is an exceptionally beautiful piece of carving. It stands some 17" high and some 3" wide. A wonderful addition to the collector or the home. Rare 17th C. Carving of Blackamoor Slave Heads in Yokes - Oak Carved Panel
A very rare 17th century oak carved panel of Blackamoor slave heads in yokes. A poignant piece of history. Which, due to its age- can lead to the identification of the carving's subject as that of the 1600's slave trade. The piece shows four Blackamoor slave heads in yokes. Their faces appear disturbed and suffering. As you look at the carving two heads are the right way up. The other two are upside down. There is a symbolic interconnecting of the yokes. Possibly a reference to the lines in which black people were made walk in their yokes. To the centre is a symbolic carved flower head. The carving is very deep and high quality. With excellent detail. Carvings of this subject are extremely rare and therefore this piece would be an extremely desirable acquisition to any historical collection concerning the slave trade.
