On offer is this large Neolithic flint end scraper/ Bullroarer. Dating to circa 3100 BC(based on the archaeological evidence) It was discovered whilst fieldwalking on fields near the Briar Hill Enclosure site in Northamptonshire during the 1976-1977 excavations. Although identified as an end scraper back in the 1970's, the function of this object has been under much debate. It is believed by some experimental archaeologists and anthropologists as being a possible Bullroarer. If so this would be one of the earliest items for producing sound, either for the shaman or for hunting rituals. More can be found here! We have a large number of flint tools from this site. Along with the log book detailing findspot information. These flints are part of an extensive collection amassed between 1976 and 1977 by a retired archaeologist. This scraper was recovered from the furrow, east of the Briar Hill Enclosure site in Northamptonshire during the 1976-1977 excavations. This lovely deep brown coloured flint scraper, is an excellent example with good sharp features. We have a large number of flint tools from this site. Neolithic British Flint artifacts Stone Age - Points allsorts
A group of neolithic flint artifacts. Recorded as part of a larger assembledge with Suffolk archaeology unit Collected as part of a field walking exercise in 2003 This small group of flint tools date to the British Neolitic esolithic period so between 8.000 and 5,000 years ago. The land during this time was farmed and still connected to the continent of Europe via the land bridgenow known as doggerland. The nomadic peoples had settled and began clearing land for farming. The time of the megaliths such as Stone Henge, Avebury, Maes Howe and the stone circles, prehistoric monument landscapes date from this time. River valleys show a concentration of finds within the Brecklands area of East Anglia and this group were collected from the Little Ouse river valley.
