Beautiful Turn of the Century American Oak Dresser Up for your consideration: A wonderful example of fine artistry by American Furniture Makers. This beautiful dresser was purchased at an old estate auction and although a lot of items came from Germany. This belonged to a couple of sisters who moved here from Germany. I am pretty sure they probably purchased it here in America rather than bringing it with them. It does resemble typical American Oak Dressers of the time period- I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of the 1900-1920's. They were quite up in years and the dresser was quite old when they purchased it and I found an Old Catholic Confirmation Certificate(in English) dated 1910 rolled up with what appeared to be an old Marriage License(in German) The lovely Beveled Mirror is in Excellent condition for its age and is framed ... morein a the beautiful Victorian tradition. Beveled Mirror attached well and swivels up or down. The Drawers feature the Grand Serpentine style. The drawers all lock and of course the original skeleton key is included. I am not sure however if the dresser’s knobs are original or not. The Dresser features the rare and beautiful Tiger Oak Construction. Quarter Sawn) The drawers are all in pretty fine condition. One drawer seems to want to go in further than it should but could be easily remedied. There is also a chip in the front edge of one of the left drawers. Hankie boxes measure 12" x12-1/2" x 4-1/2" With drawer sizes as follows: bottom one is 9" 2nd from the bottom is 8" third from the bottom 7" and the top is 6" This is a solid wood dresser. I'm not positive, but am guessing mahogany. I estimate it to weigh about 125-150 pounds. I believe it to be perhaps from the late 1800' or maybe early 1900's, but again, am not sure. There's a repair to a hairline crack in the finial I noticed. There's also a hairline crack that runs the full width of the hankie box(the right side) but has not been repaired. Drawers don't all stop flush when you push ... morethem in, but this could easily be fixed by putting a little block of wood behind them to stop them flush. Beautiful piece for the money. This beautiful antique baby armoire belonged to my mother. It is in very good condition inside and out. It is 75 years old. I restored it about 25 years ago using a medium brown tone Minwax stain. The wooden knobs were replaced with white ceramic knobs and also comes with newer casters. No cracks or gouges in the wood. Measurement of armoire(without casters) is 39"W x 16-1/2"D x 42-3/4"H It has 4 side drawers that measure 14-3/4"W x 13"D x 6"H 1 large base drawer measures 33-3/4"W x 13"D x 4-1/2"H The little armoire closet has a metal extender arm for hanging clothes. Antique 1900s Giant Furniture Co. North Carolina#321 Large Dresser Victorian? circa early 1900s A note on fotos: my flash has made the dresser appear shinier and lighter than it is. The 2nd foto is truer to actual color. Big roomy vintage/antique chest of drawers from a Victorian home on Coronado Island in San Diego. Made in North Carolina. Center of American furniture making, at the Giant Furniture Co. in the city of High Point. Style#321. The original drawer pulls are stamped Keeler Brass Company, also located in High Point, NC, style F12. Not sure of the type of wood; it's a dark veneer over dark wood. Two upper shallow drawers and two deep lower drawers. Wood wheels. Double beveled edge top and other lovely details in design. As you can see. Condition: It's weathered as you can see from fotos. There are chips in the wood here ... moreand there. The finish is rough, the top has water spots and other discoloration. The backing on the underside is warped but easily replaced. The lower drawer sticks a little upon opening. This is shabby chic or to be refinished.
