Leather writing surface measures 13" x 10 1/2" One side of the writing surface is spring-loaded for opening. It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. This action releases the wood panel below& within there are two secret compartment drawers. These hidden drawers are seen in photos. One brass inlay is missing at one bottom corner. No key. The interior writing surfice has a blue velvet fabric glued on and a black velvet ribbon acrossed the top where the hings are. There are six compartments on the inside for paper. Writing tools, and whatnots. The top lid has some cracking and veneer is missing on the side and it has damage where the hinges go(on top and bottom) See photos. The lock is present and there is no key. Locking top plate needs to be reattached. Its hinges need to be reworked. The hinges are included. But the location on the box needs to be repaired. There are brass accents and a lock mechanism. But no key. The sloped writing desk still contains the original wood pen holder(7 1/2" long, 2" wide and 3/4" tall) and the glass powder jar with cover(1" tall and 1 1/2" wide) There are bits of wood veneer missing on the top and corners. There is some staining. And a few minor rips to the black and blue velvet on the inside. There is scuffing and scratching on the bottom. An amazing. Substantial piece weighing twenty-eight pounds. ~ 1852 Victorian Rosewood Writing Slope With Mother Of Pearl Inlay ~ The central oval bears the initials'GB' and the date'2nd October 1852' The rest of the lid. As well as the front panel, is decorated with an exquisite floral pattern including leaves and flower heads made from flush mother of pearl inlay. The box is made from rosewood. Once open. The box folds out to reveal the writing slope, which measures at 18.5 inches when fully open. Inside are two corner compartments at 2 inches by 2 inches, a compartment with a sloped floor also at 2 inches by 2 inches, and a longer compartment with a half circle lid for holding pen. There are larger compartments under both flaps of the green leather writing area. ~ Dimensions ~ The box has a width of 14 inches(35.5cm) A depth of 9 inches(22.75cm) and a height of 5 inches(12.75cm) ... moreIt weighs 2.8 kg. ~ Condition ~ With only some minor age wear. Pair Of Genuine Antique Ink Wells, Bottles, For Writing Slope.
A pair of genuine antique inkwells for a writing slope that are moulded glass with brass tops. The bases measure 1.3/4 ins by 1.3/4 ins. There is a small chip to the top of one where the brass fitting is and the other one has a chip on the corner that seems to be filled with some kind of plaster. The brass tops have a dings but fit tight to the bottles. All this can be seen in the photos. We are a house clearance company that has operated for over 30 years in the south east. The goods we sell are exactly as we receive them with no attempts at cleaning or repair.We try to describe them as accurately as possible. 19th Century Writing Slope with Secret Drawers
Smart looking writing slope in Mahogany with good patina. Colour and grain. Brass straps. Corner protectors, corner protectors, cartouche and escutcheon all in good clean condition. This slope has some minor knocks and scratches and drying lines and hairline splits to veneered lid as shown in photos 3& 4. Having said this it is still a nice slope with 12 photos for you to study and judge for yourself. Inside there are 2 inkwell compartments. Stamp slope and pen tray. The secret drawers are accessed by lifting the divider between the stamp slope and the inkwell compartment. The hinges are sound as is the working lock and key although key is not original. VICTORIAN INKWELL VESTA CASE PEN TRAY STATIONARY WRITING SLOPE TRAVELLING BOX
This is for a pristine. Beautifully preserved top quality Victorian inkwell, vesta case and pen tray in their matching leather box insert. The long box holds the inkwell and vesta case at either end and the pen tray along the middle which pulls out for extra storage underneath. Both the vesta case and inkwell are embossed as such on the lids and have brass catches that release the lids. The vesta case has a socket for holding a wax vesta, a rough plate that is hinged for striking the matches and storage underneath. The inkwell has a glass bottle that is held in place with a brass rim and under the lid is the stopper to seal the bottle. The pen tray is lined in blue watermarked silk and all pieces are edged in gold. The box would have sat in a larger box or in a writing slope and a it is in absolute excellent condition. I am estimating this box is from the 1800's. Nice collectible lap desk, writing slope, sometimes referred to as sailors writing desk. Large measuring just over 16" X 9" X 5" Black fabric what I believe to be velvet writing surface- See the many photo's. The box, lock and brass hinges or hardware are all original, the key was a later find which to my surprise works. It will not work with the original outer keyplate however. You will see someone obviously tried to open it with out the key. The outer top of the box is what is so impressive, marquetry or parquetry not sure or the proper term. whatever works. Antique FINE Walnut With BrassTrim Writing Slope Field Desk With Keys & Inkwell
This is a really handsome civil war era sloped field desk. It was given as a gift to a doctor in the near past and the brass plate is on the top. This could easily be replaced Measures 20" across. It is 7" high and 10 3/4" wide. This was well used and there are signs of this. But the desk looks great as it stands today over 150 years later. On the front there is a small piece of veneer missing on the right front edge. First picture shows this There is a surface crack on the right end over the brass handle. See in the last picture. Nice 19th century traveling writing desk. Wood veneer is broken in a couple of places. There are old repairs to the veneer. As well. There is a little brass key inside. We couldn't get the lock to work. The wtiting surface is covered in green felt, in good condition. The bottom is covered in red felt. The interior has some ink stains. Hinges are in good repair. The pen holder is removable and the compartment lid has a small bone knob. It is complete with two glass inkwells with brass screw-on lids. The bottom is covered with dark green felt. English Victorian Stationery / Writing Box In Burr Walnut c.1890 - Writing Slope
A grand writing cabinet made from rich Cognac coloured Burr Walnut with a rich toffee colour which only comes from age. The knotty burl or Walnut is always highly sought-after. The cabinet opens to reveal a fully fitted interior. The door interior on the left is for notes and business cards and the framed slate on the opposite door for writing notes etc. The box comes with a working key. There are two original cut crystal inkwells with brass and copper screw tops. They sit either side of the removable pen tray with space underneath for keeping pens. Nibs and the like. There are various sections to store stationery. There are three compartments at the top which hold the calendar cards, one for the day, one for the date and one for the month. Antique oak writing box slope 1904 with stand Almost mint Look!! FOOTBALL hist.
1904 writing box with all the provenance one could want in any antique. Right on the brass plaque on the top it states the box was given in 1904 as a wedding gift to Mr JT Stevenson Hon Sec. from the N. S. Amateur Football Assn. The box is made of oak and has had little use. It comes on a stand and measures with the box 21 1/2" H x 10 3/4" D x18 1/2" W the box without the stand is 10" D x 18" W x 7" H. It has three hidden drawers and original key. Everything is original and in excellent condition for the age. There are no cracks or chips in the wood. All brass conners are perfect. The leather is split on the fold but otherwise perfect. I believe the bladder fountain pen was invented about this time and this type of box was of little use and it was put away for all these years. There’s some damage to the exterior(mostly the corners) and a crack in the bottom piece. I’ve seen many of these over the years and the crack isn’t unusual since rarely were they finished. Most had a felt bottom and it looks like this one came off. The flat writing surfaces have been removed(not by me) leaving the interior exposed. Beautiful OLD Cornucopia LAP DESK Writing Slope BOX Stationary box This is a well made box. It is made of wood with brass hinges. I'm not an expert. But it appears that the box was painted(vs stained) It is a brown goldish kind of color. The fall harvest cornucopia is more like a very thin transparent like decal. A very thin layer of some kind of gloss is over the top of the box and the decal. It is an extremely smooth surface. Unfortunately, there are some scuff marks on the left side of the box that the camera just won't pick up. There is also some red ink stains on the front part of the lid and the left side of the box. The inside of the box appears to have been only painted- no gloss or decals. The inside of the box is not as smooth as the exterior. NO major defects or repairs. This is a Beautiful 19 th Century Traveling Lap Desk. The box is covered in a wood veneer and has an inlay circle on the lid and around the key hole. The writing surface is covered in green velvet and is original to the piece. The hinges are original and in good repair. In addition to storage under the writing surfaces. There are four compartments, one of which is covered. The bottom of the desk is covered in green felt. The box is in very good aged condition. There are few places were the veneer has broken and there are some age or shrinkage cracks to the wood(see pictures) The box is 14” across. 9” wide, and 5” tall. It was procured at an Antique Estate Auction in Central Kentucky.

Rare c. 1800 English three-fold Amboyna general’s campaign writing box/slope
18 lb. 7 oz. 19 3/8” X 11” X 7 5/8” Most unusual military box. Undoubtedly belonged to a general or nobleman, due to its size and very fine quality. This box probably cost as much in cash as what the average man earned in a year back then. Three-fold boxes were special and expensive. So far fewer of them were made than two-fold boxes. Amboyna has always been a rare wood. And few campaign boxes were veneered with it. The finish on the box is original and in extraordinarily fine condition, hasn’t been touched- it feels silky smooth. The brass has been cleaned, as it had no finish on it and did not look good. Unusual also is that every edge of the box is protected by a strip of brass. Quite rare and the sign of the highest quality boxes. Box is complete with working secret compartment and three drawers with original ribbon pulls. There is a ... morenew writing surface. As the old one was gone, as well as new ribbon pulls. New burlap on the bottom of the box. Included are two period inkwells that came with the box. Which are smaller than their compartments. Although there has been some shrinkage to the wood of the box, there is no shrinkage crack, as is so common to boxes of that period. A few dings to the brass. Only the bottom brass strips on the front and back are buckled, due to shrinkage of the wood underneath. A couple of very small damaged/repaired spots of veneer, esp. at the upper right corner of the drawer. The drawer sticks slightly. Repair of trim around keyhole of writing slope. The locking piece of the curved support for the top is broken off, so it doesn't lock, but it holds up the top OK, as you can see. The spring-loaded catch to lock the drawer does not work. As the flat metal spring is worn out, so the brass locking bolt has been removed so that the drawer can be opened. A coiled spring could be installed to restore the automatic locking function, so the brass bolt is included in the box for possible future re-installment. The locks are extant but have no keys. Both locks probably work. As that type of

I have never had or seen an elm slope. This slope could possibly be unique as even searching the internet i can not find another elm wood slope anywhere. A very rare item and the rarest wood slope i know of. Elm wood is a beautiful rare wood with one of the most distinguishable and prettiest grain patterns out there. This slope is very well crafted. Is strong and has a very vibrant grain as can be seen especially on the front and top of the slope(1st and 2nd pics) The slope has been artistically carved around the top. Front and side boarder. The inside of the slope is lined with deep royal blue leather and is in fine condition. In good condition with some ... moreslight markings commensurate with age. The slope is missing the pen tray in the inside front. The brass name plate on the top looks to have the initial M and is in fine condition. This is a superb 19thc Victorian wood- I think pine- desktop writing slope. The top of the writing slope is beautifully hand painted with a lake scene with water Irises and other foliate and a cottage on the banks. Inside. The slope has its original deep purple velvet lining. Dimensions: 3.5" X 10.5" x 7.25" Condition: A bit of wood damage to top of slope and a fine age crack. Age crack to bottom of slope. And a little bit of damage to the velvet surround. Nothing of any significance and all as images show.
