The piece measures approx 7 1/4" long and it's hieght at highest point is approx 3 1/4" There is some lineage written on a yellow piece of paper that states(the bowl was purchased from Elaine Salb of NY. She got it form the estate of Devere Carol author of book in early 1980's just after his death. There is some more imfo of where a majority of his collection was sold to. And the person who wrote this spoke Devere and Elaine about it and he said it was the finest example he seen and had found it in Mohawk Vally. Any questions emai me. When they are seasoned they are put back on the lathe and turned to their final shape and sanded. All of my bowls and vases are made from these dry. Cured blanks to prevent cracking or warping. I WILL OCCASIONALLY DO A G++ BOWL. I ONLY DO A VERY FEW OF THESE. The common characteristic for all of them is their size. Because they are so large or irregular that I often have to turn them off the outboard or back side of my lathe. I have the one of the best and biggest lathes available. The custom attachments for outboard turning were the only way to complete these. Some begin as 200 lb. blocks of wood. Sm. TURNED BURL BOWL. C. Late 1800s This is a small sized turned burl bowl. Probably from the late 1800s, or so. Bowl is 4 7/8" in diameter and 1 1/2" high, and it is in good condition with no damage and no repair. It has a good dark reddish-brown color with a nice patina, and the wood shows both figured and burl characteristics. If I had to guess the wood, I would say it is cedar or redwood. This is part of an old New England antiques collection formed over decades. Vintage Burl Walnut Salad Bowl Handmade in Billings Missouri
This vintage burl wood bowl was constructed by laminating pieces of wood and then turning it on the lathe. It is marked in recessed letters. Burl Walnut Billings Missouri. It is 5" deep, 10" across the top, 5" across the bottom. There are a few light surface scratches inside that indicate usage and if you look at the horizontal lines on the bottom inside, you can see a slight space. Maybe the size of a pin head, which is from the process of laminating. Neither of these issues goes through the wood to the bottom. Which is about 1/4" thick. The bottom is solid. I've not had any problems. I usually wipe the bowl clean as the olive oil helps treat the wood. For selling I did wash the bowl. This is a smoke free home. Thank you.

Small burl compote by master craftsman. Michael Combs of Indiana. Michael Combs was first exposed to the craft of bowlmaking in 1996 when he saw Bill Day. An eighty-year-old bowlmaker from Indiana handhewing bowls in the pioneer demonstration area of the Indiana State Fair. After seeing the demonstration, Combs knew he wanted to do more than just try this craft, he wanted to be a bowlmaker. By 2004, he had already handcrafted over 1000 bowls. Combs is completely self-taught. Learning from his mistakes and working them out by trial and error. He remembers that at times he progressed rapidly, but sometimes it took several bowls to achieve the needed change in his technique. After nine months of bowlmaking, he juried into his first arts and crafts show. He was first selected for the Directory of Traditional American Crafts in 2001. Combs recently ... morefound a source for birdseye maple logs in New England and he believes the bowls from these logs are unique. In addition. He believes he is the only modern bowlmaker making handle-hole bowls, a design he adapted from Native American bowls. It has incredible surface and shows clear signs of having been fabricated with stone tools. Its early 19th century for certain, possibly earlier. It is not burl, but, rather, was carved with its long axis following the grain of a thick chunk of elm. The walls are remarkably thin and there is no foot, both convincing evidence that it was not made by a non-Indian artisan. It was purchased from an old Maine family and its reasonable to assume that it was made by a member of one of the Abanaki tribes. It measures 11 5/8" long, 9 3/8" wide and 3 3/4" tall. The only flaw are a few tight short checks and a short tight crack at one spot on the rim. Burl Walnut (13 piece) Salad Bowl Set in good condition
Burl Walnut 13 piece salad bowl set in great condition. It includes: 1 big serving bowl It has 3 faint scratch marks on one side of the outward part of the bowl that are not that noticeable and is in otherwise great condition. 8 smaller individual bowls 6 of which are in very excellent condition. Almost like new. One has lost its shine on the very bottom-inside of the bowl but otherwise looks good. The other has also lost some shine(not as much) on the inside and has a few very faint scratch/worn marks. 2 long handled serving salad servers. Spoon and fork) Both are in very excellent condition/like new. 2 short serving salad forks They are curved on the end and can hang on the edge of the serving bowl. Both are in pretty good condition but one does have a very small chip on the end of its curved handle(its in the back where it curves inward ... moreso I didn't even notice it until now) This was my grandparents set and they never really used it! It has basically just been bought and kept well taken care of in storage. It is such a beautiful set but I just don't have the storage space for it anymore. This is an Incredible Hand Carved Antique Native Americna Burl Bowl. This piece is pictured in Devere Card Book tilte The Use of Burl in American ca 1971 page 5 plate 11. You get the bowl& the Book which is hard to find in it's own right. There is a caption about the piece in book(it has the capacity of 3 cups and seems to have been hollowed out by burning and scraping. It could have been made without any tools. The piece measures approx 7 1/4" long and it's hieght at highest point is approx 3 1/4" There is some lineage written on a yellow piece of paper that states(the bowl was purchased from Elaine Salb of NY. She got it form the estate of Devere Carol author of book in early 1980's just after his death. There is some more imfo of where a majority of his collection was sold to. Vintage Burl Bowl Walnut Hand Carved Turned w Lid Candy or Cookie Container
This wooden cookies or candy container lidded bowl was made by my uncle many years ago and I thought it was made of a burl but people argued that it was not burl. Just a super job of carving it out of one piece of walnut. With the lid it is 9” tall. Without the lid it is 6” tall with a 4 ¾” diameter top and a 4” diameter base. There are no chips or cracks. Shipping weight is 2 pounds.

Here is a wood ash burl bowl from the 18thC/ 19thC from upstate NY. The out of round diameter is 10.5 x 11 inches across the top with a depth of between 4.5 inches and 5 inches tall. The thin wall of wood is approx 1/2 inch width and bowl has a wider rim and small foot. The previous owners' family have always had it from generation to generation and say it was possible Woodland Indian. I do not know on that information but do know it could be possibly be so. I JUST FOUND THIS REALLY EARLY AND FINE THICK TURNED MAPLE WOOD BOWL FROM AN OLD COLLECTORS ESTATE. THEY BOUGHT THIS IN THE 1960'S AND HAS NOT BEEN ON THE MARKET SINCE THAT TIME. FIRST PHOTO SHOWS ITS TRUEST COLOR ON OUTSIDE OF BOWL THOUGH IT IS JUST A HAIR LIGHTER. THE OTHERS ARE JUST A HAIR LIGHTER THAN IT IS IN PERSON. A WELL THOUGHT OUT PIECE. SURFACE LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN VERY LIGHTLY WAXED MAYBE 30-40 YRS AGO. A FEW SLIGHT BURN MARKS ON TOP EDGE ONLY IN ONE AREA AS SHOWN IN 1ST PHOTO. Antique Primitive Round Wooden Burl Bowl, Early Kitchen Dough Bowl old repairs
Here's a rare. Round, wooden burl bowl up for bids without reserve! Very primitive, this early 19th Century bowl is in very good, well preserved condition. It isn't exactly round, measuring 8 inches by 7 3/4 inches and its height ranges from about 3 to 3 1/4 inches depending where you measure. This rare piece has rich, warm coloring and some areas that are nearly blackened from use, wear, and the passage of time. As the photos show, the graining is beautiful and the turning marks add character. Adding to its charm are some old rudimentary repairs made to some age splits. The bottom of this bowl is flat and the walls are quite thick. It could have been used for preparing food, gathering eggs or berries, as a serving bowl, as well as other for general kitchen purposes. Rugged, solid, and sturdy, this antique burl bowl is wonderful relic ... morethat's still sound and in very good shape. We guarantee it to be old and authentic. This is a lovely walnut bowl marked"Burl Walnut Billings Missouri" It stands 3 1/4 inches tall and is13 1/4 wide. When you catch it in the light. There is one spot that looks like a crack. ANTIQUE BURL BOWL marked 1801 primitive early beautiful
Beautiful old. Early Burl wood bowl. I don't know much about this craft, but it looks like it could be Woodland Indian made. There is a date carved in the side 1801. Please look at the photos& I'll send more detailed ones if you wish. The bowl has a finish of some kind, which has worn off the interior; the interior bottom is a bit worn& scuffed. The foot is flat. There is a piece broken off, which might have been a handle or spout of some sort. There is also a 2" crack on the edge, which is quite typical of early bowls. Very interesting piece.
