It is in restored condition with replaced brass fittings and a small amount of stringing has also been replaced. Despite being restored it still has the blemishes of age and it retains a sense of character and age beneath a new wax finish. Please note there is also a corner of veneer replacement on the lid(see last photo) The two tea containers are mahogany with rosewood lids. The oints of the containers have been reglued. The interior is original and has only been cleaned. The containers have original led linings. There is no glass bowl. Many caddies are sold with replacements. This antique inlaid porcupine quill box is at least 100 years old and would make a great object for display or perhaps as repair pieces for another box. It is ebony or ebonised mahogany(sorry I am not an expert. Only passing on what I have read) and the dot pattern would suggest that ir was made in Matara in Ceylon. Condition fair for age- 100- 160 years. Some quills and inlay missing. One hinge rusted and no longer attached- please look at the photos as form part of the description. 1920's+ ART DECO HANDLED OAK TRAY WINDMILL LAKE SCENE This is a fabulous and unsual Art Deco era oak wooden tray with a decorative handworked scene under black painted glass. We have never seen anything like it before. The actual tray is made of english oak with cast metal handles with a copper finish. These have some wear. The wood is in good condition with only a flaking to one corner foot on the underneath. The glass insert appears to have been reversed painted in black leaving a clear outline of the scene and then has been filled in with iridescent paint with an oily crackle finish with striking tones of gold. Red and green. This art work is in great condition with only a tiny area in the lower and upper left corners where the black has flaked back to clear. This is mentioned for complete accuracy. The top of the glass has some very ... moreminor surface scuff abrasions from use but does not affect the display of the artwork on the tray. The finish is very professional. The tray measures 53cm or 20. 7/8' wide across the handles x 33.5cm or 13. 2/8' deep x 3cm or 1. 2/8' tall edge. The first and last photos are a true indicator of the real look the tray. The other photos have background light reflections bouncing off the glass where attempts have been made to get close ups of the art work and have dulled down the real look. May have originally been used in a church? No evidence to support this but it seems too ornate to just be for use in an average house hold? Godrey of Melbourne brimmed hat block. I really can't be sure of the type of timber but it is very beautiful it's 4 pieces- the base. Brim, and the two rounded pieces that make up the peak in very good condition. SUPERB 19TH C ANTIQUE FRENCH HAND CARVED WOODEN WALL PLAQUE
This is an original antique hand- carved wooden piece from the 1800's. I bought it in France and the dealer told me that what is unusual about it is the fact that the background and foreground are carved from one piece of wood which is pretty amazing- the artisan must have been highly skilled. Although it is so old the carving is still perfect. It depicts a rooster on one side. Hen on the other and in between them are 2 little chicks. there is also beautifully carved roses. The carving has a depth of approx. 2 cm at the deepest. Overall measurements- 53.5 x 38.5 cm. This is a superb piece of art- one which should be hung in a place where it can be admired. Antique Decorative PORCUPINE QUILL EBONY Wooden Box. Approx from the 1920's. USED in Great Condition for it's age. Featuring Sliding lid and Bone inserts. Black with porcupine Quills. I have taken photo's of the 4 sides. Top and bottom of box. PLEASE have a GOOD look at Photo's. One side( long side) has approx 7 quills missing. The other( long side) has half a quill damaged. The Narrower side has one damaged quill. The other Narrower side has two bottom sections of the quills damaged. The Lid Has few little chips off some of the Quills. The Bass is Perfect.
