Antique Victorian Estate Wood Wooden TREEN WARE Inlay Inlaid NUTMEG GRATER
Here for your consideration. Is an antique"nutmeg grater" It was found at an estate, the actual age is unknown, most likely the"Victorian Era" This is a wooden grater, with an inlaid top. It is a dark wood, possibly rosewood. The top unscrews to reveal the grater. The bottom unscrews to store the nutmeg. The nutmeg that is pictured, was found inside the grater. It measures 2-1/8" tall. The top is 2-1/4" in diameter. The base is 1-7/8" in diameter. It is in very good condition. 19 Inch Antique Florentine Gilt Tole Painted'Tole-Ware' Large Wooden Tray This is a beautiful antique tole painted wooden serving tray. The piece is not marked. That I have been able to find, but I have done some research on it, and I believe that it has the same qualities and features that some of the other trays I've spotted have. Almost all of the"example" trays I've found were made in Italy, and many of these were made by a company called Renzo Carli. Renzo Carli was located in Piazza Pitti, Florentine. These types pieces are often called"toleware" or tole-ware. Sometimes just termed Tole, by itself. The actual definition of tole painting is to paint wooden pieces in a folk art style manner, more or less. I would not know how to date this piece accurately. But I would bet it may have been from the 1930's ... moreor 1940's era. The condition on this tray is rough- it shows a lot of heavy use. Scratches, paint fades, etc. However, this seems to be the going style these days, what is termed"chic" or"shabby" Personally. I just think it's got character! The tray measures approximately 13 3/4 inches top to bottom. ANTIQUE TREEN WARE WOODEN MORTAR & PESTLE - PUMICE COLLAR - c.1800's
Unusual& curious treenware mortar& pestle' dating from the early1800's. The mortar is most likely old lignum vitae. But the grain& weight are also similar to maple. This interesting pair were bought from a London dealer in the late 1960's. The overall patina is aged& really nice. Though there are some dist ressed areas. Particularly on the base. The mortar is made in two sections: the main mortar vessel& its base. The base has three drilled holes. Apparently to anchor the mortar to another stationary base that probably tilted, so the contents could be emptied, once ground. There is also another small hole on the side of the mortar: this one was perhaps for additional anchoring, or an access to push the contents out? The most interesting thing about this unusual mortar is its round'collar' of volcanic ... morepumice stone inside the opening. This collar or ring of rough pumice stone is worn on one side, an obvious groove where most of the grinding was done. I don't believe the pestle is original to the"set" As it's much more primitive in style, but the two came together. The pestle is, at least 45 years old, but it appears to be some other resin-dense heartwood, maybe heart-pine? Whatever it is, it's very dense, very hard wood& heavy for its size. One end of this curious tool has been carved to a point& then'feathered' or scaled' by back-cutting into the surface, though there's no wear found, and it doesn't appear to have been used. So it's also unusual, maybe even unique. The mortar stands 7" in height and is approximately 3" in diameter. Its base is 4 3/4" in diameter. The inside opening measures 1 3/4" round. the opening of the 1/4" W pumice collar is about 7/ 8" round. The pestle measures 5" L& is 3/4" in diameter. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can. An Antique Victorian Tunbridge Ware Domed Top Rosewood Wooden Box
An early Victorian mid 19th Century Tunbridge ware box. It is of rectangular form with an attractive domed lid. The panels are in rosewood and it has been nicely inlaid in the Tunbridge style. The sides of the box feature roses and foliage in tapestry style. To the lid there is a central depiction of a ruined country manor surrounded by a repeating geometric pattern. The interior is lined in a light gold satin. The box comes with a key and tassel but these are for decorative purposes as the lock does not function and the locking tang is damaged. To the underside it has a red paper liner which may well be original At this size the box could have been used for a number of purposes and was quite possibly for documents or scrolls. A lovely looking example with nicely inlaid detail. Stock Code: 8081 MR13-3. A very nice shape old washboard with no cracks or breaks and appears to be as manufactured a long time ago. It is 23 1/2" high. 12 3/4" wide and 2 1/4" deep at top and the washboard area is 1 1/4" deep. It is made of wood and tin and has the original nails holding it together. This style is rather rare and unusual.

I'm not a Shaker expert, so that's why I'm calling it Shaker, or Shaker style, I don't really know. Size at the base, the box is 8-3/8" long and 5-7/16" wide, and 3-1/8" high. The cover is a little bit larger, as expected.The cover has a painted man on a horse, I think the man is Military, mayby an Officer. It appears that the decoration is old, but I assume that the hand painted Tole Ware decoration was done a bit later on, I don't know if the Shakers decorated their boxes. Condition, I'm not sure how old the red painted interior is, the box has paint wear and paint crazing or paint crackle and the cover and the bottom have a few dents, as shown. Cute Primitive Salt Box with green and white flowers tole painted on top. It has the word salt in the front of the box. The back has a stamp or label on it but I cannot make it out. It has the absolute greatest hinges I have ever seen on a salt box. The inside is clean and usable. The outside could go for a bit of polish but I am not going to so you do not have to worry about it being food safe. The box part itself measures 4.5" x 5.5" and is 4" tall. 9.25" tall with the handle. On a personal note: UPDATE. My Dear Husband Tom passed away Nov. 19. 2013.
