Leather writing surface measures 13" x 10 1/2" One side of the writing surface is spring-loaded for opening. It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. This action releases the wood panel below& within there are two secret compartment drawers. These hidden drawers are seen in photos. One brass inlay is missing at one bottom corner. No key.
