They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. Antique 1838 Wooden Domed Top Oak Immigrant Trunk Sea Chest Heart Iron Straps
This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. Wow can you believe I have the original key and the lock still ... moreworks. I think the trunk is German but don't see and maker name. The photos do not show the beauty of this antique chest. The wooden handle has a view cracks in the oak but is still firm and is solidly attached to the metal spade. No wobbles. The wooden tray has the original metal finger lifts on each side so you can easily lift the tray out of the trunk. Here is an early dome top personal valise or travel trunk. The trunk is trimmed in leather with nail head accents and the interior retains a paper lining which states the maker as NATH’l B. March Portsmouth. The paper bears the date of 1810. While we were told the trunk shows earlier construction. There are leather interior straps with buckles for securing the packed items, and there is an iron lock with no key present. The domed lid has become separated from the rounded base. This is probably one of the largest steamer trunks I have seen and there likely are several reasons for that. They take up a lot of room and they are big enough to be cumbersome when handling; big enough that it was impossible to get better pictures. Listing this as local pickup only because the value is perhaps higher here than elsewhere with shipping added. Many of us here are great grandchildren of immigrants who homesteaded here in the 1800s and brought much of their belongs over in trunks just such as this one except this one is a bit larger than most that have survived. This trunk belonged to an aunt of mine who passed away in 1988 at the age of 102 years old. She at the time told of this trunk being in the family when she was a child. This would date this trunk back to the late 1800's at a minimum. Now over the years someone put a hasp on the thing in order to keep it secure(locked) One of the clips that hold the thing shut has the metal clamp or"hook" part missing. I have been told by antique dealers that it is not too hard to find one. The flowers. And birds that are put on it(some form of inlay or type of paint) are quite pretty. Hi. Thanks for visiting. I'm selling my antique steamer trunk because of the fact that we're downsizing our living situation. Otherwise, I would certainly hang on to it- it is really a nice piece. I acquired this at a local antique store about ten years ago and have kept it on display ever since. It is made mostly of wood. With some metal rivets and leather straps. I'm not sure when it was constructed, but it is definitely of significant age. It measures approximately 34" long by 21" wide by 24" tall. The trunk is obviously old. So it isn't in perfect condition. One of the metal buckles has come loose from one of the leather straps, for instance. Notes/Observations: See Photos. Grand old trunk. From the research I have done and the travel labels that are on the trunk. I would say this is c1920s and saw a lot of action on American railways. This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The edges of the trunk are leather tacked into the wood. There is one area where the leather has split. Some additional tacks will handle this. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is holding up very well. No fraying or missing pieces, The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are split. ... moreNew leather is needed there. If you restore this trunk. Then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) Bottom of the trunk has wood slats over metal sheets. Inside. The fabric covering is in bad shape. The interior does not smell musty, Nice trunk. And a good item to start with if you are looking for a restoration project. Also good and usable the way it is if you like an unrestored look. Overall size: 32 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 12-3/4" high One of the wood slats is in need of repair. We bought this chest at an estate sale. From the estate of Stanford Jolley. Stanford was a Hollywood set director, as well as designer for parts of Disneyland in the 1950's. We were told the chest belonged to Stanford's dad, Stan Jolley, who was a character actor in something like 500 movies in the 20's and 30's. and appeared in Disney productions. We bought it only because it was such an unusual, beautiful, piece of art. But, it doesn't really fit our house, and I'd like to see it go to a good home. It measures 40" by 20" deep, by 21" and was made by the George Zee Company, of Hong Kong, and has a serial number of 69-109932. We do not have a key for it. This sign hung in the interior lobby of the Grand Trunk R.R. station in Portland Maine. The station was built in 1906 and transported passengers from the US into Canada. The station stopped being used in the mid 1960s and was removed before it was torn down. The letters are 12 inches tall. They are all handmade and painted black on the back, have a red stripe on the side and are gold on the front. According to the elderly gentleman that I bought them the letters has small screw in eye bolts in the ends of the letters and were hung on horizontal wires. They letters are in good shape. The I has a small piece of wood missing on the corner and a couple of the letters have a slight bow to them and do not sit perfectly flat, there are a few that have repaired cracks that are hard to see. It has a lock and hasp but no key so the hasp sit uneven on the lock, should be an easy fix. Very solid, tight, ready to use, some wear to the original finish. ANTIQUE AUTHENTIC STAGE COACH 3 COMPARTMENT WOODEN TRUNK/CHEST 1840's Up for auction is this very rare vintage STAGE COACH WOODEN CHEST with 2 DRAWERS plus a secret compartment when you lift the top of the chest/trunk made of SOLID WOOD. It was actually used on a stage coach and in very good condition for its age. Shabby chic rustic and rugged. Made of solid wood and brass triming and very sturdy. There is a little paint loss on it due to its age. It looks like it was hand made as well as CUSTOM made. It is solid with no damage to it or its 2 drawers. The drawers are almost 14 inches in depth x 20 inches long x 2" wide. In good solid condition. None of the wood shows any sign of damage. Warping or shrinkage. Both drawers open and close easily. Two metal knobs are present on each drawer to open the drawers. The previous owner told ... moreus that it was checked by an expert and was made sometime during the 1840's and except for one handle on the top. Everything else is original. There is a personal gun/pistol box or a storage box specifically made to store guns. Its bottom drawer is QUITE UNIQUE. The drawer has seven raised wooden compartments in the color blue. TWO of which were designed specifically to fit pistols. The other compartments perhaps to hold ammo and anything else related to pistols or guns. Considering the fact that the trunk carried pistols and perhaps gunpowder. It is quite understandable why side handles were never attached to the trunk. Thus the trunk/chest by design does not have any side carrying handles. We are guessing here that perhaps the trunk was a salesman's trunk in order to sell pistols. That would assure the owner that the trunk had to be hand carried at all times. When you open the trunk/chest it will not remain open unless you put something underneath the top to prevent it from closing. The wooden trunk has a camel back design with metal hardware and latch. The trunk is completed with a paper overlay square design throughout the exterior. Interior of the trunk has a floral paper overlay design with a picture of a child and dog on the underside of the lid. Interior has a large open bottom with a removable divided compartment sitting on top of the base. No markings to indicate a manufacturer. 1890s Early Brown Eyed China Head Doll/Wooden Limbs/Antique trunk/cloth body WOW
What I have here is a lovely bundle I picked up a few years ago from an estate sale of a doll collector. The only info I have is from research and what was told to me by the family members that were selling it. Along with many original OLD german, french, and american dolls. I don't claim to be an expect on dolls. Only have a desire to rescue especially old dolls. If they could only tell stories. I was told this 11" tall doll is from the 1880s-1890s. The dress and trunk was sold with her. The cloth body has hand stitching all over her. Firmly stuffed, stitching looks like ... morestitching on the black slope shoulder long dress. VERY OLD. The lower limbs(arms and legs) are wooden. The hands are paddle like and feet look peg like boots/shoes. Blue painted bands below knee area to represents garters. The details to the china head(unmarked) are very intricate and nice. Pink tinted complexion. Red eyelid line over the eyes, black eyelash line over eyes, she has brown painted soft eyes(told were rare to find) Her closed mouth has a very fine linear shade seperating the lips. Her flat top. Center part black molded hairdo has round finger curls in the back(covered wagon hair style? She could use a cleaning(soil and dust) No chips or cracks. Very slight fading of paint to area of back of hair. Handmade beaded stringed necklace/choker around her neck. In photo you will see 2 pieces of fabric that goes with the dress. The trunk(as I'm told) was always displayed with the doll. It's in lovely primitive condition. See photos. Has original pull out tray. Black with Mother of Pearl trim like. 9"x5"x5" On each end is the remnants of leather handles. Very Unique and OLD. Thank you for looking!

1800's Antique Wooden Doll Child's Trunk Chest Salesman Sample Removable Tray For your consideration is an 1800's Antique Wooden Doll Child's Trunk Chest or Salesman Sample Square Design Removable Tray. This doll chest is in good condition. It has definate aged appearance and patina. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. It appears that the tray and handles were added and are not original to the chest. Very nice and decorative detail ... moreand appeal. Inside original interior paper is mostly gone. Measures 18" wide x 10 1/2" high x 7 1/2" deep on the inside with removal of the wooden tray. There is no lock for this trunk. Two beautiful handles on either side. It measures 36" x 17" x 18" It came over on a ship in the mid 1800's so it is not perfect. There is some roughness on the edges. It is made from 3/4" wood and has box joints. It has the original hardware. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and a green paisley pattern material. This item 14-20152-65 is a very nice vintage wooden humpback immigrant trunk. It has the name A. Vogt carved on the top. It measures 39" x 18.5" x 23.5" It has no damage. It has the original blue paint on the outside. It has the original hardware. Some of the locks had been removed on the inside. Before we purchased it. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and a blue gray leaf pattern material. The metal banks and plates have a nice rusted surface patina; the wood is in good shape but with a complimentary aged surfaces. The canvas has faded and has been torn& patched in places. The hasp for the locking mechanism is missing, and someone added some wooden"feet" to it which can be easily detached by removing the screws.
