The trunk itself is in good condition, structurally, although I am unsure of its actual age. The trunk has gotton wet at some point, and the moisture damage and staining goes all the way through to the inside of the trunk. The covering on the outside of the trunk is worn, torn, and coming off in this area as well. The trunk has a hinged lid, and the original lining is still inside the bottom portion of the trunk. The trunk is made of wood, with a nice olive green covering that is mainly intact, except for the aforementioned area, and metal reinforced seams.

The overall pie shape of the trunk implies a very specific use, and comments are welcome as to possible purpose.

A gorgeous set of three folk-art nesting round-top wooden trunk boxes. Each is handpainted with scrolls and hearts. In shaded gold and ochre on a rich dark teal background. They all have clasps in the front and two hinges on the backs. The largest box measures 11 1/2" in length. 6 1/2" in width, and 6 1/2" in depth. It is somewhat faded at the back of the top and on the back, as if it had been kept in a window, and the back has some paint flakes, shown in the photo. The medium box measures 9 3/4" in length. 5" in width, and 5 3/4" in depth. It has one chip to the edge of the front, shown in the photo. Up for bid is an antique child's/doll wooden steamer trunk. The trunk is overlaid in embossed painted metal. The interior is covered in paper. The trunk measures 14" x 8 1/2" x 9" high. The handles are intact. Some of the nails are slightly loose especially the ones in the hinges. The locking mechanism is no longer functioning. I am not an expert but this came from a friend's mother's estate and they had quite a few trunks that had been handed down. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. This is a terrific antique wood trunk with both military and travel and college insignias. They seem to be painted on and not paper decals. The trunk is about 30 inches by 16 inches by 12 inches. The locations mentioned on the trunk include"Palo Alto" and"Stanford" and"Moffet Base" and"Hawaii" as well as others. The trunk has a lift out sock insert. The lock is missing. There is the name"Walt Natishyn. There is also a stain on the bottom of the trunk. Maybe some hair gel or something spilled. I don't know if this was an early wood Army footlocker that became a college trunk or the other way around. Vtg Hand Painted Wooden Chinese Chest Trunk Box -
We found this lovely piece at an estate auction years ago but never had the right place for it so it's time to let it find a better home. We have no information on age; it was crafted in China. Some information with artist mark is on felt-lined bottom. The hinged wooden chest measures 18" X 10" X 8-1/2" high The painted background is a distressed antique gold; floral crests around all sides are painted in browns. Green, touches of red, accented with metallic gold. A nicely cast bronze lion head with ring forms the handle. The exterior of the box appears to be covered/wrapped with what has the appearance and feel of leather but we're not certain of that. May be faux- rubbed corners, etc. reveal a white substance under the painting. The sides show stitching and nail heads where the wrap has been folded over. In addition ... moreit looks like there is an antique wash and clear coating on the entire piece. The surface has crack lines(similar to porcelain crazing) which in our opinion adds to the feel of an old chest. The interior is lined in what we think is paper designed to look like green fabric with phoenix designs. CONDITION: previously owned. Age unknown. Interior is pristine, some rubbing on exterior corners and a nick on the front near the bottom

The trunk bears the maker's mark(badge) on top over the lock: Henry Likly& Co. Makers. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This is an older restoration and all the original hardware and materials are still there. The refinish is not perfect and still maintains much of the same appearance it did as when Henry Likly first delivered the trunk. It has been in a home that used it everyday and never left in storage not being used. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Refinished and stained. The ... morelock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. While woods are not my forte` we have a consensus that this is red oak. Weighs a ton solid in construction and has aged nicely. Dates 1800-1820 possibly earlier. Came out of PA estate. All Original hardware with the exception of the is intact with the exception of a decorative plate above the lock front. You have to examine closely to see, appears a decorative element as the original lock is there no key though. There is some minor loss to some of the decorative hardware edges top and such please refer to photos. The wrought iron handles are there and solid to lift. The piece must have stood on a wall as the back is considerably darker(dirty) than the rest. Gorgeous vintage faux crochet/ gator leather trunk. Both sides have a keyhole and shut and lock. There isn't a keý but it doesn't need a key to unlock. It slides side ways to unlock. I don't know if the keyhole is just there for looks or if it actually works. Large 16.5 X 7.5 X 6.5 spacious trunk with plenty of room. I stored X box games in it* It's OLD and shows obvious signs of age and use as shown in pics. Looks great for being so old.
