Rare Medlar Co. Wooden Box- Vintage Shipping Crate- Philadelphia Collectible
Very nice piece of history. Rare crate used to ship Medlar Muffins. In this case frosted honey fingers. This was a company based in Philadelphia. PA I think early 1900s(closest info I can find) It is in very nice shape overall with some picture cracking due to age. Also has a mark underneath and one in the back which I show in pics these marks shouldn't be seen when displayed. The measurements are rounded not exact but it is roughly 21" wide 14" from top to bottom and 8" deep.

OLD ORANGE CRUSH SODA bottle wooden shipping crate
Very nice registered ORANGE CRUSH BOTTLING CO.wooden 24 ct. bottle crate. This is from St. Johnsbury Vermont. Not sure of the vintage but what little research I did dates it to the early 1900's. In 1935 the company was located on Bay St. in St. Johnsbury VT. The box is 18" long. 11 1/2" wide and 10" tall. Steel banded on both ends all the way around. It has 24 square holes with round holes in the bottom of the squares about half way up the box with an open bottom. It appears that you would put the bottles in the box upside down and the neck would go into the hole,then you could stack another box on top without inter-fearing with the bottles. I have been trying to find a box like this one, but so far have not had any luck. Could be a rare find! Antique Industrial Age Wooden Shipping Box Crate Trunk Coffee Table This trunk has some newspapers that were used to line the bottom from 1946(see pictures) The trunk is probably earlier than that in age. 34" wide x 25" deep x 16" high overall Nice patina to the exterior wood due to age. L.R. WEBSTER is stenciled on top There are a couple of labels tacked to the top and front which are no longer legible. There are also a couple of Railway Express Agency labels(remnants only) attached to the sides. One is fragmenting(bits might fall off before you receive it) Nice heavy handles on the sides and a padlock hasp to secure the lid. The remains of casters are on the bottom(the plates are all that remain) So this item was probably used as a portable chest in the past. The interior is painted with a cream colored paint. Which is chipping as shown. I left the exterior finish un-polished. When you look closely you can see water stains and other marks of character. You can certainly apply a polish like Old English. The box's dimensions are approximately 48" x 48" x 48" though with the pallet that it is mounted on, it is 54" tall. It is made out of 3/8" and 1/2" plywood and 2x4's. It overall appears to be pretty sturdy. The door on the front and top both open half-way back to allow easy access to the box. Wooden Clark Bros. Bolt Crate with Original Shipping Label dated August 4. 1958 This is a wooden shipping crate in excellent condition. Originally used for shipping carriage bolts made by Clark Brother Bolt Co. from Milldale, CT, part of Southington, CT, a suburb of Hartford. Clark Brothers started in the 1850s making carriage bolts. Using innovative production machinery developed in the Southington area, Clark Brothers grew to a point where the firm accounted for a significant portion of the nation's total carriage-bolt output. All of the printed text on this crate. Including the“Bolt” logo, is sharp and clear. The crate itself has had some restoration performed– see description below. Included is the original paper shipping label from the crate that shows the shipping date of“8/4/58” see photos. The label is not attached to the crate ... moreand has some minor tears. The wood has a rich luster and a deep“golden pecan” color from the application of the satin(non-gloss) polyurethane. This create is extremely solid since it was used for shipping heavy carriage bolts. The following was performed on this crate: Sanding of all non-printed panels such as on the inside and bottom panels• Some light hand sanding was done to some of the sides with the printing but with the utmost care to avoid all the printing. Which is important to preserve it in its original condition• Application of a satin-finish(non-gloss) polyurethane to all panels– inside and out. Including the bottom• The crate may have had some areas where glue was applied to repair breaks in the wood• The original nails were removed and new nails were used when the crate was reassembled This is crate measures(approximately) 27” x 15-7/16” x 11” L x W x H) All of the wood is from the original crate.
