Pair of vintage 1972 Wooden Pepsi Crates - Springfield, MO - GACO Tufbilt Box
I've owned this pair of 42 year old wooden Pepsi Cola crates since about the time the newer looking one was date stamped 2-72(February. 1972) in 3/8" high blue ink numerals. Below the date stamp is the manufacturer's 1 7/8" wide x 1" high blue ink label which reads: GACO Tufbilt Box" The darker, older looking crate has the same red block style Pepsi font on the exterior, but has red faded script style"Pepsi" markings on the insides which is a holdover from pre-1962 Pepsi logos. I cannot explain why the 2 different styles are evident on opposite sides of the same boards. I do remember that it was already darker when I acquired it while living in Springfield so it's possible that it is actually older than 1972. It is NOT date stamped nor is the manufacturer's logo present. The newer looking box ... morehas blue ink block style"Pepsi" letters inside. The logo font changed a year later in 1973 with a curvier"E" and"S" Both measure 16 1/4" long x 12 1/4" wide x 12 1/4" high and have"Springfield, MO. above the cutout handles. There are 3 breaks in the galvanized edge strapping on the darker crate. The edging on the brighter crate is without breaks. There are also the expected bubbles in the straps between nails due to the wood drying with age and shrinking. See the high resolution photos to see the various stains and imperfections. Each crate weighs 7.6 pounds. Note the nice tongue and groove joint details on the side panels which lend added strength to this fine pair of matched vintage Pepsi Crates. Note to potential buyers: Many of the other rarer full height Pepsi crates offered on-line are different in several dimensions from this pair. Please feel free to ask questions or request additional photos. Local pickup in Dallas, TX is acceptable. Shipping will originate from Zip Code 75287. For sale are 2 vintage Canada Dry wood delivery crates. Both with 12 compartments inside. The first one is in the best condition. the paint& lettering still look good.Especially for their age(which I don't know exactly, but they have been around for decades I am sure. It has the original metal strips all along the sides for reinforcement& the bottom& back of it are still sturdy, actually all of it is. It measures 17" x 12" x 5" weighs 5.5 lbs. The second crate has much more faded paint than the other. As a matter of fact, the red"Canada Dry" lettering is almost not visible anymore, but is still there along with the words in blue"The Champagne of Ginger Ales" It also has the original metal reinforcements along the sides& is still sturdy. These are original wooden fruit crates from Rosy Brand California Peaches and Sunny Slope Brand Premium Nectarines from Gaffney. South Carolina. They are both in tremendous condition with no splits or cracks. The labels are in great condition as well with vibrant colors. The smaller Rosy Brand crate measures 17.5" long x 12" wide x 5" tall. The Sunny Slope crate is 20" long x 14" wide x 9.5" tall.

TWO ANTIQUE WOOD MOTHER'S OATS SIGNS Up for auction are two Antique Wood Mother's Oats Signs. I believe that they may have been part of a wooden shipping case that held the packages of Mother's Oats. But that is just a guess on my part. Each sign is 15" long, 10.5" wide, and about 1/2 inch thick. On one end of each sign is a 1/2" pine board that keeps the other pine boards together. The signs although not complete are nearly complete with only about 2 inches missing. One of the two signs is lightly faded while the other still maintains its bold black lettering. The Crate s are 18 1/4" x 11 5/8" x 4" Each will hold a 6 pack of bottles. There are some splits in a few of the boards, some of the lettering has faded, they do need cleaned, but both are in good condition. One is dated 1962 and the other is 1964.
