This auction is for a wonderful vintage Erzgebirge set of soldiers in the original box. The box measures 4 inches across. There are 6 single wooden soldiers and one soldier seated on a horse. WW1 Lord Strathcona's Horse Helmet - Canada - Identified Soldier - Moreuil Wood
Lord Strathcona's Horse For auction is an extremely rare British MK1"Brodie" helmet. While the British model Brodie helmets are not terribly common to begin with. This one is even better in that it was issued to Lord Strathcona's Horse regiment of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The standard L.S.H. stencil is applied on both sides of the helmet in white/off-white paint. The L.S.H. regiment was a cavalry regiment that actually used horses during the war. They are famous for the last great cavalry charge in warfare at Moreuil Wood in March of 1918. Multiple awards were issued to the brave men of the L.S.H. for their actions at this battle, including a Victoria Cross. I would encourage any interested parties to read more about this battle, as their bravery was incredible. Charging German machine guns while riding on horseback ... moreis something no one could imagine these days. Beyond all of this. However, what makes this helmet really special is that the underside of the rim is engraved with the initials RLW. After having done my own research and speaking with Canadian historical archives, I have confirmed that only one man in the L.S.H. during WW1 had these initials. His name was Richard Lorrie Whatnell. Richard signed up with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in December of 1914 and was later assigned to the Strathcona's in 1917. Included with this auction is a copy of his attestation papers(images of which are available in this auction) and copies of 64 pages of his service records that were obtained from the Canadian Archives. Based upon these records, it is likely that Whatnell and this helmet saw action at Moreuil Wood. This helmet is still in very nice shape. I discovered it in an antique store in the 1980's and it has been with me ever since. The antique store I purchased it from was in North Dakota near the Canadian border. Some genealogical research I conducted seemed to indicate that Whatnell lived part of his life in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Which are both directly north of where t

Here is a vintage clothes brush with a hand painted wooden handle shaped like a World War I army soldier. The soldier is about 4" tall; the overall height of the piece is 8" There are scuff marks around the rim of the hat and around the brown base holding the bristles. But he is solid with no cracks and the bristles are still tight. Overall he is in lovely vintage condition in spite of his battle scars.

This finely carved piece of African native art depicts a Colonial soldier and is painted black with red flesh tones. It is mounted on a metal base. The face is very reminiscent of Picasso’s depictions in his famous painting Les Demoiselles D’Avignon. It probably dates to the early 20th century. The statue is of a soldier and is 19 1/2" tall including the tip of his spear. In his other hand he is holding a shield. There is a small chip out of the cap over his shoulder. The base is also made of wood and measures 3" by 2 3/4" There are no markings that I could find.

Antique World War I 1915 ? Wood Cathedral Arched Framed Soldier Portrait w/ RARE
This is a very rare. Antique frame. I cannot find one to compare to. It is a framed portrait of a World War I Soldier. It has the convex/bubble glass. It's an arched or cathedral style frame with the etched/raised floral decor with colors. The back of the frame is an old wood but it looks like the front is the same but with some type of unique finish on it. I uploaded 12 photos hoping they will speak for themselves and you can tell more about it and the condition. To be as old as the frame might be, it looks to still be mostly intact. A few minor places of rub or color wear. I haven't taken time to clean. I am selling just as I purchased. I absolutely loved the frame when I saw it.
