Antique Old Toy Box Chest Cowboy Vinyl Wood
Beautiful Antique toy box. It has a few places if you look the girl has a scratch on her face. But it isn't deep. The back edges both are coming up a bit. And it has a small spot on the very front left of it as well as something on the front right that looks like a possible ink pen spot, but I'm not sure. And, lastly from what I've seen the bottom right has two small spots on it where the vinyl has come off a bit. You should be able to see all of these spots by looking at my pictures. I want you to know what you are buying. But, even with these little imperfections this is a really nice piece. I won't let it go too cheap because I know it's really nice and you can't just go down the street and find another one easily. I was told this is from around the fifties time period and possibly even earlier. I looked all over ... morefor a date and couldn't find one or even a manufacture. This chest was made and used about 90 years ago in the late Taisho period(c. 1920) The chobadansu, or document chest with locking drawers and doors, was used to store an individual's or shop's accounts, documents, and valuables(note: key included) This tansu chest is made of solid kiri(paulownia) wood and hardened hinoki wood peg construction(see picture 9) All the hardware is made of hand forged copper with an embossed(on the locks) and relief(on the handles) momiji(Japanese maple leaf) design. This box is reinforced with forged copper strapping on the front. All drawers as well as doors move easily without binding. The chest has six drawers. And two sliding doors. It has 11 Drawers, all slide freely on the grooved wood runners, all the drawers have the older metal bottoms with green felt inner linings. All knobs, side and front latches are original and intact as well as all the metal corners. This item is a vintage carved cedar wood chest-type box with a floral design and ridges on the ends. I think it is machine carved. It is too perfect to be hand-carved. I believe. It is very beautiful. It has dove-tailed corners and metal hinges and a fixture for a padlock. On the top in the center of the box is a home scene. The finish on the outside is varnished, but the inside is unfinished. There is a mirror on the inside lid with a border of roses, leaves, and vines in gold. It is 10-1/2" long by 6" wide, by 4" deep. The entire thing is lined, and has a velvet ring compartment as well as a drawer. I don't see where any nails were used at all. Estate Find ~ Antique BRASS & WOOD Cabinet Maker's Tool Chest w/Drawer & Trays
Please scan below description to read shipping costs/details ~ thanks Fabulous antique cabinet maker's tool chest measuring 27"wide x 16-1/4" x 14-1/4" high. Hard wood probably oak? You won't find any veneer here this beauty is solid wood. A quality made piece well constructed to serve the maker for many years with three brass hinges to hold the lid. This box has all the pluses, check out the stunning heavy brass trims that decorate every edge for strength and beauty. This chest is about as original as you will ever find complete with drawer, trays that lift out for your drill bits and other small hand tools and room for the hand saw inside the lid. The hefty solid brass handles are built into the chest to lay flush until you pull them out to lift the chest. Both locks are present we do not have any keys. A very solid ... morepiece ready to use or display in your room for extra storage. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Some minor dings in the wood from years of use but NOT abuse. These marks are customary with use over 100 years +. The hinges are firmly in place and hold the lid nicely, the drawer has brass pulls and works as it should opening and closing nicely. The inside may need to be wiped down and cleaned a little we are selling it directly from the workshop! All the brass is solid brass and well attached with NO missing pieces. Lid closes great, inner trays move forward and back to select your tools, they are removable. Some tiny dots of paint are present on the drawer and on the lid but a fine piece of steel wool and wax would probably remove these nicely. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme!
