camphor wood chest for clothing etc
The chest is made of one-inch thick camphor wood and is accordingly bug-proof. A great place to keep woolen items and furs. I bought it in Peking(okay, Beijing) in 1947, definitely not new at the time, but I have no idea how old it might be. The chest looks awfully heavy, but two ordinary people can easily lift it off its pedestal. It measures 64" long x 27" wide x 28" high. Sitting in the pedestal the top of the trunk is 35" from the floor. It has two big brass hinges on top, for the lid, and a big brass fitting on the front(see photo) It's in excellent condition and a beautiful piece of furniture which has brought admiring comments over the years.

Old primitive tool chest from the late 1800s. Made in Scotland. It belonged to George Roland, the Scottish grandfather of the owner(who is now in her 80s) Grandfather was 94 when he passed away in 1950. Tool box was passed down to owner's father. And there are alter ations and wear. The fabric bulldog decal was affixed by the owner in about 1970 when it was passed to her from her father. And her husband used it. This listing is for a vintage wood jewelry box with ten velvet lined drawers. It measures 13.25" tall. 12.5" across and 9" deep. Thw top two drawers each have 9 sections, for smaller things like rings and earrings. The other six are one compartment. The two long bottom drawers are sectioned. The top has three long sections for bracelets or necklaces, and the bottom drawer has three wider sections for larger items. There are some nicks and scratches in the wood, the top corners have small chips. The door hinges have corrosion, and the right door tends to open, it doesn't always catch and stay closed. Antique Chinese Lychee Wood Chest
RELISTED WITH PRICE DROP& FREE US SHIPPING Antique lychee wood Chinese chest circa 1850-1875. 31" w x 21" d x 13" h. Beautiful working of front and side panels. Partially nailed construction using hand made nails. Top has been broken into three pieces. These can be repaired, but we are leaving that as an option to the buyer who may prefer a professional reconstruction. The right side panel of the lid is missing the lower half. The left side matches and can be used as a template for constructing a replacement. This family heirloom was gifted to an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers around 1938, stationed in Beijing, who was told it was 75 years old at that time. Actual Chinese region of origin is unknown to us. This item was appraised in 1977 at a selling price of $5,000, however this was prior to the damage which occurred ... morein 2010 by movers. The item is shown in the pictures sitting on a modern table frame with no top that happens to fit the chest fairly well, but is not part of the item itself. This Antique Jewelry Chest is absolutely stunning. It has 9 divided drawers with ebonized knobs and the vertical and horizontal spacers between the drawers are also ebonized. The drawers have velvet linings which are not glued down and are probably a later addition and the top is hinged with more divided space. I think that the chest is mainly mahogany but I can't say with absolute certainty. This chest will be a keepsake that you will hand down for generations. Very solid& sturdy. High-End, dense/heavy wood construction with brass-look steel pull knobs. Unique corner construction of large, 1-3/8" diameter solid wood dowels that have been inserted into cut holes in both top& bottom pieces(see 10th pic) Exact wood type unknown. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. Extremely Nice Wood Rustic"Pirate's Treasure Chest" Jewelry Box This is older& pre-owned. Structurally box is in very good condition. Inside has a crushed velvet look lining that is clean. Lion heads& all hardware have a rustic look to them. Decorative hammered brass brads adorn the box. It looks like a couple of the nails have been replaced(see lions head pic#9) When you open the top. This is a beautiful antique Chinese camphor wood trunk from the 1940s made of excellent quality and construction. It is of good size and measures 21x40 inches on the bottom and 23 inches in height. As you can see every side has a paneled appearance which is quite unique. To do this panel work took a lot of additional time and effort. Much more so than a typical trunk with no carved decoration. The interior has great top quality brass work which includes the hinges and the lid bar, pictured. IT also comes with one pull out tray for convenience. There is a brass Asian lock on front, it even comes with a Chinese style lock which ... moreis quite unique compared to American locks. The interior is all camphor wood which keeps moths away from destroying wool clothes. The exterior almost seems like mahogany but i believe it is stained camphor wood or similar chinese wood made to look like mahogany. I have seen a number of camphor trunks in my time but this is really one of the finest quality trunks i have seen from the Asian market. It is in super original condition with a clean finish. We would prefer that the winning bidder pick this up in person but we know that is not always possible. There are 2 ways of shipping this which is blanket wrapped by a freight company, we can recommend a couple of people for this. This is a hand carved J.L George wood trunk. The inner inscription reads J.L. George 895 Avenue Rd. Tel 34732 Chinese beaux arts carving furniture in wood. Carving furniture in jade stone. Carving furniture in brass. Carving chest. Made in China. I believe it is from the late 1800's or early 1900's. A friend of my father's brought this back from a trip he took to Shanghai in 1929. The exterior has some exquisite hand carving as shown in the photos. It is in great condition. The top does have some fading. As if it sat in the sunlight for a period of time, and some minor scratches. Please see photos. It measures 20 inches wide, 21 inches tall, and 40 inches in length. The brass hardware is all in excellent condition. The interior seems to be in exceptional shape, with the only blemish being some mild buckling up of the wood on the ... morebottom, in one area.
