Rare antique Roos Manufacturing wicker and wood chest
Local Pick Up Only! The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had several children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. Sper Bijou This would make a great medieval toy castle for a young boy or girl to use their imagination with during playtime. The decanters can be used separately for a vintage bar set and/or the wood chest used as a jewelry box without the decanters inside. I could have sold the decanters separately. But wanted to keep the integrity of the set. As with most of these types of liquor chests they have been well used and/or abused and show wear and tear by their previous owners or the children who might have played with them. Red cotton velvet lines the interior of the box which also used to contain a set of four shot glasses. But unfortunately they are not with this piece any longer. It has a crest shield plate on the center front and metal lion head drawer pulls on the right side which held shot glasses at one time. The other side drawer is missing. The top castle roof lid comes up to reveal the decanters inside and has brass tacks across the front lip edge. Condition: Has a chipped piece of wood on one of the ramparts. Some chips on the curved front doors and a little bit paint splatter from a sprayer, and a wood crack splinter on the front floor landing. It’s missing one drawer and two shot glasses. The front two rails are also missing the posts that go into the landing. It’s still a solid wood piece and in okay condition considering its age. It is 13” inches wide by 6-1/2” inches deep by 6” inches tall. The decanters are in excellent condition.

Up for auction is an Antique Vintage Wood Leather Traveling Chest circa late 1700’s. The chest is made out of wood. Was once covered in cow hide(most of which has worn off) and has leather hinges. It measures 17.5 inches long x 10 inches wide x 7.5 inches high and has a metal clasp/ lock(with no key) The top part of the lock is no longer attached to the lid. The handle on the top is also missing. The inside of the chest is lined with newspaper which has a date of Tuesday. April 1, 1794 from the Catskill Packet. This is a wood chest style jewelry box. The lid has a old mirror and the inside of box has silk lining. The box has a pull out drawer on the bottom. It measures approx. 9" long x 6 1/2" wide x 6" tall. The box is a painted gold color with silver colored metal strips and handle. I don't know how old this is as it was an estate find. Known as a Kirikodansu. This chest was made and used about 100 years ago in the late Edo period(c. 1910) The kirikodansu. Or small personal chest, was used to store an individual's kimono accessories as well as personal documents and valuables. This tansu chest is made of solid kiri(paulownia) wood and hardened hinoki wood peg construction(see picture 9) All the hardware is made of hand forged copper. All six drawers move easily without binding. The lock seen in the last picture is no longer functioning and does not require a key. This chest has a 100+ year old warm aged patina and remains in fine restored condition. Vintage solid wood and brass jewelry cabinet. Made in China. Dovetail construction. Detailed with what I believe to be the double happiness and bat symbols. The doors have the double happiness symbol with bat pulls. While the sides and top have the double symbol surrounded by four bats. I believe the brass hinges are also bat symbols. Double front doors and four inner drawers. All the drawers are lined with red satin. I believe the drawer pulls are also bats. The symbols on the door have protrusions with holes that looks as though they may have had a string or cord that went through them at one time. Like something that may have tied together to secure the doors shut. I am not certain about this. But wanted to make sure I brought it to your attention. The top 2 drawers are one single box. While the 2 lower also have ring holders. 9 ¾” ... morehigh. 7” wide. 4 ¾” deep. Very solid and heavy. The cabinet weighs 6 lbs. The brass is showing some patina. A good sign of age. Antique Tapestry Wood Copper Repousse Hearth Shoe Box Arts Crafts Storage Chest This is a very lovely and unusual repousse antique shoe box. These boxes were meant to sit on the fireplace hearth to hold shoes. Keep them warm, and to dry dampness. The outer box is lined with tapestry fabric on 4 sides(front, sides and top) The box sits on 2 pieces of wood which acts as feet and raises the box 1" off the ground. This box would easily hold 4-6 pair of shoes. I am not sure of the age, but with style and age factors on the metal and wood, I would guess over 100 years easily. It has XXVX(34) stamped on it around the lid edge near the hinge end. It also has an ink stamp that I can't make out. The 2 side tapestries are by d'apres Ridgway Knight Condition: There are a couple of cuts to the brass and some splits to the wood on the base ... moreand back of box. This is still a solid piece. It measures approx 2 ft long X 16” wide on lid. It is 18.5" tall at back of the box and 14” tall at the front of the box. Shipping will be high due to size.
