I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There ... moreare hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side has a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Don't get me wrong. This is an awesome old box for small tools. It is in very rough condition without a handle. A great decorative prop. Or chest for small tools or use to store your gold. This primitive piece measures 12 1/2" X 4 1/4" X 4 1/4" Like a shoe box, but more narrow. The closure is iron and would be awesome if the catch plate was not missing. The antique iron hinge is nice and could be recovered. Hardware pieces are iron; a magnet sticks. The leather handle is missing and I am including a leather handle not original to this piece. It has holes on each end for attachment to the box and seems to fits. However I am not handy enough to attach it. This is a tongue and groove wooden box and the bottom indicates it was originally painted gray. It would benefit from a good wood wax. Brass Measurement: 39 1/2" Wide x 19 1/2" Deep x 21" Tall Condition: Very Good Vintage Attributes: This is a 1940's era storage or steamer trunk. It is crafted in wood. Painted navy blue on the outside. It features wrap around decorative brass hardware on the top and bottom edges of the trunk itself and on the four corners of the top, please refer to photos for detail. There are two wide decorative brass bands running up the front of the trunk and the lid, across the top of the lid, and down the back of the trunk, all held in place with tiny brass nails. The lid is hinged in the back, all hardware is brass. The front lid features two brass tabs which fold down onto the locking pins. Going through the locking ... morepins are a pair of Japanese locks, very rare nowadays, but popular on storage trunks in the 1920's and 30's. The locks themselves are solid brass, a collector's item in themselves- we have chosen to offer them with the trunk, as they came to us at auction with the trunk. The key is included, will be in a separate envelope on the outside of the trunk. There are two side handles mounted on brass circles, please see photo. The inside is roomy, unpainted wood, no tray, in very good shape. This would make a wonderful storage chest for quilts and blankets, kept at the foot of a bed. It would also make a great storage piece in a living room or den in front of the sofa. Obviously handmade- looks to me old wood dark stained shellac finish- looks like small version of an old cedar chest. Nice grain patterns! Top Inside has an inside piece that fits nicely pretty snuggly below top edge to provide a better seal when closed. Edges are simply finished rounded. Triangular cut pieces stack with metal stud make up dimensional feet design. Well-made and sturdy. As common with an older handmade piece. Does rock slightly when placed on flat counter, so not completely level, but hardly noticeable. Older hardware darkened with age. Looks like brass hinges with screws. We don't know if this piece was restored at some point, but everything does look like ... moreit originally belonged with this piece. We are not sure of the origin of this piece. It is not marked and appears to be uniquely handmade. It came from the estate of an old doll collector who used it for her doll displays and storage. We were told this was probably made at least c. 1940's/50's. But since there are no markings, we can't be sure of precise age. It comes as pictured as we found it. Item Photos, Hello and welcome to the auction and thank you for viewing.I believe that this is for a Chinese lock for a camphor wood chest or similar large chest.I think that it is made from brass and it measures about 7.1m. by almost 2cm. by 2.9cm. in height.To the front is a Chinese character and there are various illustrations to the sides and the bottom including a fish and a bird.It is fairly chunky and weighs about 110 grams unpacked.One end is designed to take a key with the keyhole in the shape of a Chinese character.This item I believe would have come back with our family from Hong Kong when we returned home in I estimate the early 1960's after my dad was stationed in Hong Kong.I would think that it was purchased in Hong Kong but my parents had spent time in Singapore in earlier years.Two camphor wood chests also came back with ... moreus.It could have been secondhand at the time. These boxes were meant to sit on the fireplace hearth to hold shoes. Keep them warm, and to dry dampness. The outer box is lined with tapestry fabric on 4 sides(front, sides and top) The box sits on 2 pieces of wood which acts as feet and raises the box 1" off the ground. This box would easily hold 4-6 pair of shoes. I am not sure of the age, but with style and age factors on the metal and wood, I would guess over 100 years easily. It has XXVX(34) stamped on it around the lid edge near the hinge end. It also has an ink stamp that I can't make out. Condition: There are a couple of cuts to the brass and some splits to the wood on the base and back of box. This is still a solid piece. It measures ... moreapprox 2 ft long X 16” wide on lid. Cabinet is in good primitive condition, with wear and several repairs. The drawers are sturdy and well made. And they open without sticking. This primitive chest needs a new home with someone who understands that a few scars and repairs just give you more character! CONDITION: The top of the chest has a visible repair on both edges. The top left edge has a fairly clean repair. But the repair on the top right edge is more obvious because there is a small chunk of wood missing. This repair does not ... morelook the best, but the top of the cabinet is not loose. Wood shrinkage caused a small split on one side. At the bottom edge, as shown below. The split is stable, and it will not be a problem. There is some thin white paint spatter in the same area. The finish has some wear, and there are some nicks, dings and scratches. The drawers are very sturdy and well made, but they have a few old stains inside. The drawer pulls are securely attached, and problem free. NO ODOR. She always had"modern" taste back then. No idea who the manufacturer was but back of the dresser reads"WMB 8862 8864 T. DR. and then"90 Blue Mink" Pieces are heavy and seem to be made of oak. The grain is visible with a shiny black stain on it. Which sort of gives it a blackish, blue color. The handles are gold metal, but not sure what kind. There is a routing line around several drawers that are filled in with a gold finish. It has been used so there are some nicks here and there, but she was pretty careful with her things because at that time they needed to last a life time. Both pieces are slightly more narrow at the top and then get wider at the bottom-pretty neat with interesting lines, modern lines. Legs are attached at an angle. I confess. I don't know a whole lot about this piece. I found it an an old flea market in the middle of the Missouri Ozarks. I have researched and researched it have only discovered the following info. The design is called Gold Leaf Lacquer. It has beautiful motifs of white roses and birds. I believe it is what was called a"Shoe Cabinet" or a"Foyer Cabinet" and was naturally intended for storing shoes in. I can't find any artist or designer marks. I don't know if it is Chinese or Japanese but I am fairly certain it is one or the other. It hast has that wonderful Asian flair about it! It stands at approximately 30" tall. Vintage 30s Roos Cedar Chest This is a gorgeous heirloom quality Roos Sweetheart cedar chest from the late 1930s. This Roos chest was made in Forest Park. IL. The chest is made of Claro Walnut, Striped Walnut and Black Walnut. The inside of the chest is aromatic Red Cedar. The cedar chest is still quite aromatic, it has a special sealite lid to prevent the escape of the protective cedar fumes. The chest measures 47-1/4" long, it is 23" tall and 18-1/4" deep. It has a cedar tray on the inside which is 10" deep. The cedar chest is in excellent condition, the wood is rich and it gleams. On close inspection it shows a few vintage scuffs, mainly where the back edge would rub against the wall when opened, but nothing outstanding and it shows no abuse. The inside looks like new. There is a lock on the chest but I do not have ... morea key. This chest comes from a smoke free and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Buyers are welcome to ask for other forms of payment. We are offering an early antique Korean tansu chest in original finish. I am selling this from my collection. This piece is circa 1800-1900. Dimensions are: 30" high. 34" wide and 17" deep. The inside of the chest is very clean. It lifts down. The chest has handmade original hardware; the lock itself is beautiful. And has old writing on it, The hasp piece that would actually lock it, is long missing. The chest has some of the metal ornamentation missing on the bottom center. There are small tacks over all that are missing, and a slit on the plank on the top of the chest. There are scratches, and marks and general wear over all. consistent with the age of thee piece. Up for sale is a beautiful Vintage Japanese mahogany Silverware chest with Skeleton key locks and velvet lined drawers. It measures 25" wide by 8 1/2" deep by 11" tall. there are some condition issues. The box needs to be refinished, there are lots of fine scratches on the top and on the front edge of the box, also there is wear the the brass plates wear the key goes in there is also a triangle brass corner plate missing from the top left back corner. It can be made by sending one of the other corners to someone who casts metal and brass you can find them on the internet. the is a wonderful vintage Japanese chest but it needs a little T.L.C. Up for auction is this pretty wood jewelry box. Holds lots of jewelry. Top lid flips up. Have oval mirror, 7 hooks for necklaces that drop down into the back of the drawers. Three drawers pull out and have flocked lining and are divided. Box sits up on curved legs. Has very nice floral decoupage on drawer fronts and lid. Honey pine finish, floral colors are goals, pinks greens and blues. Three wood knobs and one brass on the top. There are some areas where finish is worn and some dents in wood.
