THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There ... moreare hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side has a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Antique Wood Floral Metal Covered Box Chest Silverplate?
Offered is an antique metal covered wood chest. It measures 20 1/2" wide. 11" high, and 9" deep. I believe the metal covering is silverplate. I have made no attempt to clean the finish. It displays great patina and a wonderful floral design. I'm sure it could easily be returned to original finish if desired. The covering is complete and dent free. The 3 strap leather handle is compromised but may be restorable. The hinges and metal trim on the cover are solid. It opens and closes easily, as designed. The interior and bottom appear to have had a paper lining. Some of it is still present. All the pine wood is in good condition. This classic is odor free and would make a fantastic display piece. You could remove the backing and replace the mirror with glass if you wanted to use it as a display case. I purchased this charming antique medicine cabinet from an antique store in 1983. Including some bug holes, and some end boards that have dried and warped a bit on the domed lid. It has its original paint featuring grain painted designs. The design depicts women and men harvesting crops. Interiors and edges of the chest are painted black. The lid opens to reveal a compartment measuring 8 7/8 inches long by 5 1/4 inches wide. By 3/4 inch deep. It has a metal latch on a hinge to secure it. Three drawers open at the front of the chest. Each has a curved metal handle. the drawers measure 2 5/16 inches by 4 1/4 inches. By 1 1/4 inch deep. Although new. This chest has several slight scratches on the underside. The right front corner of the lid has been bumped and is very slightly misshapen.

This is a very lovely and unusual repousse antique shoe box. These boxes were meant to sit on the fireplace hearth to hold shoes. Keep them warm, and to dry dampness. The outer box is lined with tapestry fabric on 4 sides(front, sides and top) The box sits on 2 pieces of wood which acts as feet and raises the box 1" off the ground. This box would easily hold 4-6 pair of shoes. I am not sure of the age, but with style and age factors on the metal and wood, I would guess over 100 years easily. It has XXVX(34) stamped on it around the lid edge near the hinge end. Italso has an ink stamp that I can't make out. Condition: There are a couple of cuts to the brass and some splits to the wood on the base and back of box. This is still a solid piece. It measures approx 2 ft long X 16” wide on lid. Commonly used as a blanket trunk as camphor wood is a natural bug repellant. Brought back from china by missionary great grandparents around 1920. Chest is 37 in wide, 19 inch tall& 18 inches deep. Still has slight original scent of the camphor wood. Brass lock has makers marks. This is a neat old toy box with original red paint and prints of pirates on the lid It is 28 inches long x 16 3/4 inches wide x 9 1/2 inches tall This chest has some trim pieces missing on the lid and front middle it has 4 sections on the inside. The large section in front 27 1/2 inches x 10 inches, it appears there was a divider in the center of this section at one time The 3 sections in the back are all 6 inches deep. 2 are 10/12 inches, the other is 5 1/2 inches. We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. I have listed an all wood very old wood box. Chest. This could be used for trinkets, jewelry, sewing, fishing, coins etc, or for the collector that must have every old box made. This has lovely wood, and in nice condition. I am not a wood expert, but the top appears to be inlay, and I am not sure what type of wood the top is. I am not sure and the bottom all around is oak. This is a walnut color. The top has t several colors light and dark to the lovely design. The size is measuring at the bottom 12 1/2" long by 9" wide by 3 5/8 inches high. The inside is lined in coral color material and has 3 snap on snap off small sacks with string enclosures and there is a moveable shelf that can be taken in or out. It opens and closes nicely. Restore this piece to its original grandeur or leave as is and let it continue to tell its very own story. Acquired from a Maryland estate. It has no markings to indicate is original maker or country of origin. Well used and loved. I have tried to photograph the most significant signs of use. The top has a wood veneer. The veneer is all there except for a small chip that I have shown in photo 6. There is some buckling and cracking of the veneer on the top that can be re-glued if you like, see photo 7. One of the corners of the lid has a"chewed" looking appearance(see photo 8) all of the other corners are fine. The sides of the chest and all of the other molding is in fine shape. There is a split in the wood on the bottom, see photo 12. There is no key. Little spindled feet, see photo 12, one is missing. Now for the assets. Nice ... moreworking hinges. Very stable construction, lid fits very well, beautiful detailed molding around painting on top, beautiful wood graining, nice lock hardware though key is missing, lovely painting. This is a magnificent red lacquer dresser for either dolls or jewelry. Hand painted with brass hardware& decorations. The top has bras hieroglyph of double happiness. 3 drawers behind the double doors. All lined in fancy red satin fabric. In front and on the each side are jade insertions. Make a very nice touch. Fitted boxes line the shelves of this lovely old Kodansu. This Kodansu fitted with lacquer boxes to hold different small items. Japanese small chest with slide in door. Containing 6 red lacquer stacking boxes, each box with lid, and two containers. The top container on each is divided. All interiors are red lacquer as well. Iron handle on top, scalloped border on door. Boxes each measure 5"x4"x4.5 inches high. Finger pull pegged drawer in bottom, shown open in photograph. Circa 1880. These tansu were used to store small personal items. Books, incense, tea, and so forth. They have a variety of boxes and shelves behind sliding doors that make these small tansu especially flexible in terms of use and placement.
