The other facet that makes this rare is that the scenes names are in German- they may be German scenes as well but I cannot make out the titles clearly- please view photos. This is a wonderful 19th Century Bulbous Turned Treen Ware Covered Sugar Bowl or Spice Container. It stands approximately 5" tall to the top of the original turned finial. The turned foot of the base measures approximately 4-1/4" x 4-1/8" appropriately. Slightly oval due to grain shrinkage) It is in beautiful estate condition with NO cracks. NO repairs and NO replacements. It shows only age appropriate surface wear with an older refinish. The lid's interior collar does show some chipping. As seen in the photo. Both the container and original lid show age appropriate grain shrinkage. The origin is most likely Ohio and possibly Pease. However, we leave that final determination to the buyer. The wide base and top are wood in a warm honey cool(probably mahogany) The wide base has an embellishment of seed beads in a floral pattern around it. There is a metal rod with a hollow center in the middle of the base. The top has a rod which fits into the base rod. When the top is removed. A spool of thread can sit on the rod. When the top is replaced, it keeps the spool in place and allows the thread to be dispensed. The height of the spool holder is 4 inches and it is 2-1/4 inches across the bottom of the base. An unusually large and handsome cotton box. Made to contain six spools of Clark's cotton grouped around a central thimble space(with thimble) Base diameter is 95 mm. And the height over domed lid is 58 mm. The tartan is McBeth. Identified on the lid. There are eyelets marked with the various weights of cotton placed symmetrically around the box. Each with appropriate label. The cotton reels are miscellaneous. But the thimble fits. Condition is remarkably good for an item which has clearly been used over the years. The tartan is bright and clear. And this ia a really lovely example of its kind.

SAILOR Made COCOANUT TREEN WARE CHALICE
Offered is an exceptional antique sailor-made chalice of the type that would have been made by a ship’s carpenter on a whaling ship in the South Pacific. The cocoanut shell bowl of the chalice has been ground down and polished to show the unusual fibrous construction of the shell. The color and finish are incredible. And the shell has been ground remarkably thin. It is raised on a finely turned wood base of exotic hardwood. It might be lignum vitae but the finish is dark, and I have resisted the urge to clean it, so I can’t be sure. You can see the entire grown ring structure on the base which is something I have seen in lignum vitae. The base and bowl are elegantly joined with a peg topped with a button finial inside the bowl. I believe this was the original purpose of this piece as there were some old frames in the case that were not included in the sale. The note inside refers to 1830. The family that this came from date their history back to the Mayflower. The house had some spectacular pieces that were definitely museum worthy. The case measures 4 7/8 by 2 1/8 by 7/8 inches. As you can see in the photos. There is some warping of the case as it does not sit flat on the surface. The interior sleeve where the case slides over has some loss. A Sander or Pounce Pot was used when quill or nib ink pens were used and before paper was a good. Usable quality. One sprinkled fine sand or powdered pumice(the pounce) to smooth the paper and help the ink dry quickly. so a Pounce pot or Sander was an essential tool for someone who wrote a lot.Nuff said. Description: This hand made sander has a lot going on. lots of ink stains around the"bowl" rim. The plug. Through which the sander was filled, is in the bowl itself. that plug comes out and then fits back in"just so" The shaker holes in that plug are uneven- so home made. The pot is made of very hard wood. Has its original reddish black stain. It is 2.75" high, the bowl is 2.75" across, the base is 3" across. The pot weighs 2.5 oz. Quarters and is 1 yard long This auction is for the Tunbridgeware tape measure as shown in the photos. It measures 35 mm long and is in very good undamaged condition with just very slight age related surface wear as you might expect from a 175 year old piece of treen. One end twists to retract the original tape and the other end is threaded so that you can open it up. The original tape is in very good condition. Just faded at the end nail! Unusually the tape is marked in'Nails' which was a sewing measurement used prior to circa 1850. 1 nail = 2¼" 4 nails = 1 quarter& 4 quarters = 1 yard! Please view the photos. Here is something very unique and sweet. A wonderful 1920's hand-painted treen ware cocktail and/or liquor cup holder/hider. He is wearing a top hat cocked at a jaunty angle. A tuxedo and bow tie, and holds four colorful, early plastic cups that nest together. The word. Whoopee" is painted on his front. He has some general wear. This bowl will sit inside the other which is 15 1/2" across. It is over 1/2" thick. It has a large crack that goes all of the way through the bowl. There are also several smaller cracks that are on the bottom outside of the bowl. Collection of Oriental Japanese metal mounted wooden ware treen tea straw pipes
This listing is for a collection of 7 tea drinking straws with wooden stems and metal mounts. The longest one is 36 cm long and has a horn mouthpiece. Then there are two similar 27 cm long examples one of which has rather battered brass mounts(the mounts on the other one are ok) 23.5 cm is the length of the next one which has mounts that appear to be steel. The one which appears to have silver plated mounts is a bit tatty at 22 cm long. 20.8 cm is the length of the next in size and this one has Japanese characters stamped into the underside of the bowl. and 19.2 cm is the length of the smallest one which has nice condition brass mounts although they could. Like the rest of these pipes, do with a good polish. All the stems are made of bamboo wood. Datewise I would think that they are early 20th century. This is one of several items that were ... moreowned by a lovely local gentleman who worked in Japan for several years in the 60s and 70s and always bought, or was given, the best. ANTIQUE MAUCHLIN WARE TREEN BOX WITH LID CHATEAU D'ANET TIN LINED
Lovely small round lidded box of Mauchlin ware from the turn of the century. 1890 to 1900's. Mauchlin ware was a Scottish production, popular for small boxes, sewing tools and tourist souvenirs. Many of them celebrated the beloved poet Robert Burns, and many were covered with a tartan print. This little box measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter and bears an image of the French Chateau d'Anet on the lid. The sides are laquered black, like the picture frames of the period. The inside is tin lined, for some unknown purpose; perhaps to render it waterproof. It is in excellent condition, no cracks or breaks, some fine scratches and age patina.
