Antique Italian Rococo Style Carved Wood Hand Painted Framed Mirror 20 x 12 1/2
This is an absolutely beautiful Antique Italian Rococo Style carved wood and gesso mirror. Looks like it was carved from a single wood panel and is intricately painted with the most amazing details. So much detail. One would find details like this on a full sized piece of furniture. Hand painted with very intricate details of roses, flowers and the like. Base color is a rich deep creamy gold color which more than likely was originally an oil base white. Detailed with moss green and a profusion of red flowers embellishing this wonderful piece. Nicely varnished in clear giving this piece a wonderful warmth. Stands approximately 20 1/4 inches tall and measures approximately 12 1/2 inches wide and wood is over 1 1/2 inches at it's widest thickness. This was originally purchased by my grandmother who lived for a while in the Russian section ... morenear Knob Hill. Their heads are hand painted with orange shapes. The left doll is in a Japanese traditional straw shoe. It is called WARAJI in Japanese. It has a wood board and Japanese KANJI on it. INCREDIBLE TABLE WITH EXTRAORDINARY CARVED DETAIL! We are pleased to offer this antique. Wood console/entry table. This stunning old table features intricate carved designs with strong French or Italian influences. The table has graceful lines and curves. The table has been painted white(somewhat distressed"whitewashed" finish) with gold gilt accenting on the table rim and on the carved features. The carvings are numerous with acanthus leaves and shell pattern on the front apron of the table with an open/pierced carved design. The back legs have large acanthus leaf accents. The feet have a carved"talon and ball" or claw and ball design. The two front legs feature exquisitely carved birds, one on each upper leg. The birds have wonderful detail with cross hatched feathers and intricate eyes and beaks. STUNNING! The bottom ... morestretcher features a center acanthus leaf shell with an incised cross. The table is in very good condition with some signs of use. It is quite sturdy(but not terribly heavy) and does not wobble. There is some chipped paint on the top as well as some condensation marks from glasses being placed on the top with no coasters. These are not terribly distracting and are somewhat faint in nature. The table top could be painted quite easily to match the existing white color if you do not care for the"character marks" This is a beautiful table with exceptional detailing. There are no manufacturer's marks. The table is generously sized and measures 40" wide at the widest point and is 17.5" deep(front to back) at the deepest. Shipping via Greyhound. Up for auction is an unusual wooden framed serving tray. Frame is a dark stained hard wood. Material under glass appears to be woven strips of grass or silk cloth. The cloth is painted in beautiful muted colors depicting a sailboat with seated figure dressed in blue in forefront. Sailboat in distance, warm golden full moon or sun with mountains framing the scene. Art deco handles are wooden with brass endcaps and arms. Brass has a lovely patina. Carved stools, staffs, chairs, and swords are used by chiefs and other important people to signify their power. The Pende. Along with their neighbors the Yaka and Suku, can trace their origins to modern day Angola, between the Atlantic Coast and the Kwanza(Cuanza) River. They were forced north to their current region during the Lunda expansion in 1620, which also resulted in numerous cultural influences. Bottom of the box is branded with Upper Skagit name and insignia. Measures 7 1/2" long x 3 1/4" tall x 4 3/8" wide. Lid has a few minor dings and one top corner has a dent- cedar is a very soft wood. It is signed by the artist BILL KILBY, dated 2012. Bill Kilby. A very talented carver and painter, was born on April 6, 1978 in the small town of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Canada. His is a member of Batchewana First Nations of Ojibways. Territory located on the north west shores of Lake Superior. He later moved to British Columbia's West Coast, which influenced his art. He is specializing in traditional carved and painted native wood carvings, drum making, solid wood custom furniture design and construction as well as the crafting of high quality cedar and alder boxes. He was obviously born with great talent and began carving when he was very young. From estate sale; age unknown. I purchased this set because it was so unusual and really beautiful. I don't know much about it other than what I have read about similar sets on eBay. I've provided lots of pictures so you can form your own opinion on the value and condition. All pieces are in great condition- no chips. Cracks or repairs. Minimal wear visible. Colors are beautiful. Pieces are very light weight- maybe like a balsa wood? Measurements below are approximate. Total of 18 pieces including lids. Covered bowl with lid(top center) 5 1/2" tall w/o lid; 7" opening. Smaller bowl with lid(bottom center) 4 1/4" tall w/o lid: 4" opening. Open bowl(bottom left) 7 1/2" in diameter x 2 1/2" deep. Small open bowls(set of 6 on top right and left) 5 1/4" in diameter x 2 3/4" deep. Spoons(set of 6) ... more8" long. Ladle: 9 1/4" long; bowl is 3 1/4" in diameter. That's about as much as I know.
